Gour Govinda Swami: And this viraha-bhāva is there, feelings of pangs of separation. Though this is the chief result of the chanting of the holy name, if you chant offenselessly, then you will get prema. Now, this is sādhya-vastu, the ultimate thing, prema is coming out. Because the whole heart is filled with prema, so it's coming out while chanting this holy name.
Internally and externally. Externally there is separation, internally there is union. This is viraha. External separation, but internally there is union. This is expressed through chanting of this holy name:
Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare
Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare
We find both things are there – union and separation in chanting of this holy name. Externally separation, internally union in the heart. This is the mood Mahāprabhu chants in.This name should not come only from the lips, but should come from the core of heart. Unless you have that mood, that bhāva in your heart, how will it come out? That Mahāprabhu has taught us. So we say that, Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura says:
'gaurāṅga' bolite habe pulaka-śarīra
'hari hari' bolite nayane bā'be nīra
Utter that name of Gaurāṅga, your whole body invigorated, ecstatic, the hairs on your body will be erect. Why? Keno! 'hari hari' bolite nayane bā'be nīra – He who is Hari himself. The chanting name of Hari is such a feeling that prema-bhāva. That is mādhurya.
So if you are uttering the name of Gaurāṅga then that bhāva, that mood, that ecstasy of Kṛṣṇa prema will come, because he is emanating it.
nayana-galad-aśru-dhārayā
vadana-gadgada-ruddhayā girā
pulakair nicitaṁ vapuḥ kadā
tava nāma-grahaṇe bhaviṣyati
Mahāprabhu teaches this thing. O Lord, when will the day come by chanting your holy name that tears will roll down from my eyes like torrential rains? My voice will be choked up with ecstasy. Whole body will be enraptured. Hairs from the body will be erect. Ecstasy, when? Mahāprabhu did that thing, while chanting. This is the mood, in which Mahāprabhu is chanting.
There are two things simultaneously – union and separation. Externally there is separation, internally there is union. This prema-nāma-saṅkīrtana. This is known as prema-nāma-saṅkīrtana, it is not mere nāma-saṅkīrtana, objective is there. Prema is objective to nāma-saṅkīrtana. Prema-nāma-saṅkīrtana – it should be chanted with prema, the mood, the bhāva, the love. Mahāprabhu's saṅkīrtana.
Gaurāṅga kāliyā niṣṭāya haya, gaurāṅga-sva sa helo kāliyā ḍākiyā pāpa hoya niyā rūpa prakāśiyā.
Mahāprabhu sings this nice song. Gaurāṅga and Kāliyā. Kāliyā means black, Śyāma. Gaurāṅgī is Rādhā. Combined together, that is Gaura. Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa, combination of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa is Gaurāṅga.
The blackish hue remains inside and this more than golden hue comes out. That is what said. That is Gaura-rūpa.
Nabadwīp āsi Gaura-rūpa āśi vanera sāite nāce.
He appears in Nabadwīp, that Gaura, with all his associates with form, devotees, chanting this holy name, dances.
Udilo aruṇa, gelā nagara-vrāje,
'tāthaī tāthaī' bājalo khol,
ghana ghana tāhe jhājera rol,
preme ḍhala ḍhala soṇāra aṅga,
caraṇe nūpura bāje
Beautiful, nice song. It goes on. Nagara saṅkīrtana with the devotees. 'tāthaī tāthaī' bājalo khol, ghana ghana tāhe jhājera rol, preme ḍhala ḍhala – with ecstatic love, that golden body just swinging like that. caraṇe nūpura bāje, tinkling. So it's tinkling sound, that ornament is nūpura. That tinkling sound is coming.
Durlabha mānava deho āya ki ko bhāvanāre
keno ebe nā bhajilā yaśodā-suta caraṇe paḍibe
What are you doing? Getting such rarely achieved human body? You shouldn't think seriously if you want to do this bhajana of Yaśodā-suta, the son of Yaśodā Mātā. Want to do it? Bhajana-nāma, bhajana of Yaśodā-suta. Then ultimately, you have to suffer so much. Go to hell and suffer lakhs of lives.
"Any moment this body will be finished. Death will come. So many dangers are there. So many problems are there. It is greater danger and problem here in this material world. This platform, material platform is so nasty platform, miserable platform. So I tell you why I'm your only well-wishing friend. Completely surrender unto this holy name and engage yourself in the loving service of God. Then you are saved."
kṛṣṇa-nāma-sudhā koriyā pān,
jurāo bhakti-vinoda-prāṇ,
nāma vinā kichu nāhiko āro,
caudda-bhuvana-mājhe
Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura says, "You taste this nectarean mellow coming out from this holy name, sweet name.
Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare
Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare
You taste this mellow and be happy and make me happy also." Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura says. You become happy and make me happy also.
Nāma vinā kichu nāhi ko āro, in this 14 planetary system, there is nothing but this holy name. Nothing. Everything.
Therefore, that is said, Mahāprabhu was chanting and he was becoming ecstatic and was dancing. That is what mahājana says, "If someone is very fortunate and sees that part of Gaurāṅga, ecstatic part, If he has gotten that vision, if he can feel it, can he survive? That means no more material survival. You go to that Goloka Vṛndāvana and survive there, not here.
So one who was there at that time when Mahāprabhu was here, chanting and dancing with his associates, devotees, one has seen that dancing, was seeing that ecstatic ecstasy of love, prema, one who has seen the golden bodily complexion of Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu like molten gold, one who has gotten a chance to associate with such devotees, only he knows what sort of mellow it is, relishing it's nectar, how sweet it is. Only he knows.
It cannot be expressed through words. That is the essence. And Mahāprabhu was feeling the stress, tension. Sometimes he fell unconscious. His body stretched out so long. Joints become loose. And the blood comes out from each pore of the hair and the body. Such ecstasy. Aśru kichu pāli prāya. This is described.
A fountain came up, spurting forth. A Golden body. From golden body, blood came out. From each pore, this is ecstasy. This is prema-bhāva. This is chanting. Chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, Mahāprabhu is feeling such ecstasy. Relishing that mellow. This is prema-nāma-saṅkīrtana.
These names, prema-nāma, names with love coming out just through the core of the heart, through his mouth.
Hare Kṛṣṇa. Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare
Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare
Put in and filled with the prema love. And it is coming, that love is coming like an inundation and inundates the whole world. Inundates the whole world. Those who are fortunate, very fortunate, they inundate themselves, drown themselves in this inundation of love, such a persons are very fortunate. Those who don't drown themselves, what is that? So unfortunate... They're so unfortunate that they cannot inundate themselves. The flood is coming, inundation is coming, but some unfortunate fellows are running away. They're running away.
Prabodhananda Sarasvatī pada has said that thing in Caitanya-candrāmṛta:
avatīrṇe gaura-candre vistīrṇe prema-sāgare
ye na majyanti majyanti te mahā-anārtha-sāgare
When Mahāprabhu appeared here, he brought this Golokera prema-dhāma. Through chanting this holy name, Hare Kṛṣṇa, He brought from Goloka, Vṛndāvana, this prema, this asset, invaluable asset, transcendental asset. It is not available here in this material world. He brought it from there and made the whole world inundated with that flow, flood of love through chanting
Hare Kṛṣṇa. Hare Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare
Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare
This is a golden opportunity, rare opportunity. The people of Kali-yuga, most degraded, sinful persons, they cannot get it. They have no right to get it. But Mahāprabhu is so wonderfully merciful, magnanimous, merely presented what is for you, and making the whole world inundated with that flow of love, inundation of love. For one who is most unfortunate, he doesn't take this opportunity. He doesn't inundate and drown himself in this inundation. He is most unfortunate.
If someone will never inundate, if someone will never drown himself in this inundation of prema, he must be drowned in the ocean of anārthas. Definitely. Anārthas. Anārtha-sāgara.
Mahāprabhu is distributing it here, he said, "Distributing prema-phala." This amṛta, the nectarean sweet, nectarean fruit, prema-phala, fruit of love is distributing throughout the world indiscriminately. Distributing to everybody. Someone who is most unfortunate, he cannot have it, he cannot taste it. The mahā-mūḍha, most rascal he is. He's most rascal, most unfortunate. There's no doubt in it. That Prabodhananda Sarasvatī Pāda said. All mahājanas have said.
Avatāra-sāra gaura-avatāra.
Gaura-avatāra, the incarnation, Gaurāṅga incarnation is the best type incarnation. Because he gave freely, indiscriminately, the most confidential, the most hidden for free. No incarnation has given it. Avatāra-sāra gaura-avatāra. Why not doing bhajana of Gaurāṅga? Such most merciful incarnation, wonderfully merciful, wonderful, magnificent, wonderfully munificent incarnation. Such a rascal.
Kari nīre vāsa, nagare nagare pyāsa. That is spoiled. Water everywhere but not a drop to drink. Not a drop to drink. They're dying out of thirst. There are waters, but you cannot get a drop to drink and dying out of thirst. Such fool you are.
You are amidst it. Meanest water. Amidst that nectarean flow, inundation still going on. You are so unfortunate, so rascal. You cannot get a drop. Inundating yourself in the ocean of anārthas. Such fool you are. Rascal. Stupid you are. Take this opportunity. Have it. [Never get any more. Not in each Kali-yuga He comes.] This is a special Kali-yuga. Mahāprabhu has come.
He never comes in each Kali-yuga. When He Himself comes, it's only once in a kalpa, in one Kali-yuga, He gives prema. So, you are so fortunate you have taken part in this Kali-yuga. But you are not availing this opportunity. This golden opportunity has come to you. Such a rascal, stupid you are. Unfortunate you are.
I am just an instrument. Bolo! Then that tune wouldn't have to come out.
Haribol. Haribol. No, we are not seeing. No, we are not seeing clearly. What do you think? How are you? Okay. Yes?
Devotee: Envy is also an emanation of Kṛṣṇa?
Gour Govinda Swami: Hm?
Devotee: Envy. Envy... is Kṛṣṇa? Pardon? To be able to see everything as an emanation of Kṛṣṇa. Yes. But envy, we cannot see that. Envy in, uh, myself and envy in, uh, around envy. Envy. Not s-... Envy? Envy.
Gour Govinda Swami: There's no envy in Kṛṣṇa.
Devotee: No, no. Everything is an emanation of Kṛṣṇa. When there's so much envy around here in the material world, how are we to see envy as emanation of Kṛṣṇa?
Gour Govinda Swami: One who sees envy, he cannot see Kṛṣṇa. Cannot see Kṛṣṇa. Māyā is also one of His energies, but external. Yes?
Devotee: So we're not to see envy in anybody?
Gour Govinda Swami: No. Then you cannot see Kṛṣṇa, you cannot understand Kṛṣṇa... you cannot understand this teachings. You should understand if you see envy, or become envious.
Nirmatsarāṇāṁ satāṁ vedyaṁ, Second verse of Bhāgavatam says this thing. dharmaḥ projjhita-kaitavo 'tra paramo nirmatsarāṇāṁ satāṁ vedyaṁ. Read Bhāgavata. Okay. Nirmatsara means non-envious. Those who are non-envious, such devotees, can understand this Dharma tattva. Only he or she can understand this Bhāgavata Dharma tattva, who is non-envious. Nirmatsara satāṁ. Such devotee Vaiṣṇava can only understand. If becoming Vaiṣṇava and becoming envious... no.
Devotee: In America, preaching and situations are very, very horrible. People are very envious of Kṛṣṇa. Now, how am I to transcend that and see them as not envious at all? It's very—
Gour Govinda Swami: You don't see. You should not see. Let them see they are envious but pray to Mahāprabhu, who will kill that demonic attitude. That is demoniac attitude. Demons are envious. Mahāprabhu kills it. That is in their heart.
Devotee: But I'm not supposed to see their attitude?
Gour Govinda Swami: You should not see. And pray to Mahāprabhu, pray to Nityānanda. Very, very merciful. Let them kill their demoniac attitudes. Let demons become devotees.
Devotee: Jagāis and Mādhāis.
Gour Govinda Swami: Yes, Jagāis and Mādhāis.
Devotee: Yesterday I asked you a question and Raghunātha prabhu asked me to ask you again, because a few things I didn't understand what I asked. And it's since, since I came to the movement and asked every devotee this and it's because the mahāmantra is so, so powerful—
Gour Govinda Swami: Yes.
Devotee: It's possible that one day no more souls will be attracted by Māyā ever again?
Gour Govinda Swami: Yes. If they develop taste for this nectarean sweet name, never. Never again.
Devotee: No, but no more souls ever? It can be that...
Gour Govinda Swami: Yes, no more.
Devotee: And the material world will be empty? There'll be no more souls ever? No more Kali-yuga? No more... finished?
Gour Govinda Swami: Why there will be prison house? If nobody will commit any crime, why there will be a prison house?
Devotee: So there'll be no more prison houses?
Gour Govinda Swami: The king or government will wipe out. "Eh, no prison house. Nobody's committing any crime. All are very nice."
Devotee: And that can be, that can?
Gour Govinda Swami: Yes, a Vaiṣṇava like Vāsudeva Datta, he has said like that and Mahāprabhu says, "You are Prahlāda." Prahlāda had said, "Vāsudeva Datta says." Yes? What harm is there?
Kṛṣṇa so great. Rāja Rājeśvara. Emperor of the emperors. Kṛṣṇa Rāja Rājeśvara, Emperor of the Emperors. He's emperor there, in spiritual world. And the king and the emperor has everything, good and bad. He has innumerable surabhi cows. And giving such nectarean, sweet milk immensely, immensely. Also, he has kept many goats, innumerable goats also. That is Māyā.
If one goat dies, is there any harm to him, loss to him? Only one goat dies, one goat. He has many goats. Three goats. Māyā is one illusory, brahmāṇḍa, or world is one of the three goats.
If one devotee like you, very dear, Mahāprabhu, can deliver the one world, one material planet, goes to Vaikuṇṭha, then one sweet goat dies, one sweet goat only dies. Is that a loss to him? Innumerable, innumerable universes are there. If one is elevated, what loss is there? It's better. Very good. Try to understand it. Very deep topic. Very deep.
Devotee: Will there always be goats?
Gour Govinda Swami: Goat means sea goat. What is that? That is illusory world. And that emperor, Kṛṣṇa, who's the emperor of all emperors, has many, many innumerable sea goats. Only one sea goat dies. That means if one planet, earthly planet, is elevated to spiritual world, then one sea goat dies, only one. So what loss is there? Try to understand.
Devotee: So one day there'll be no more goats?
Gour Govinda Swami: Yes.
Devotee: You... nightmare.
Gour Govinda Swami: You do it. You deliver. No, that's what they should do. You deliver the whole material world, not... The whole, whole creation... material creation. You deliver. Are you chanting holy name? You give. You become first. Get prema, be ecstatic, get Kṛṣṇa and then give Kṛṣṇa. You get Kṛṣṇa first and give them. That's all right. What do you say, Mañjarī?
Devotee: Yes, I need to get prema first.
Gour Govinda Swami: Have you gotten Kṛṣṇa?
Devotee: Gopāla.
Gour Govinda Swami: You have gotten? Oh, yes, she has gotten. Gopāla. Gopāla? Oh, good. Don't, don't lose Gopāla. Take care of him very nicely.
Devotee: He wants very much to come and see you.
Gour Govinda Swami: I?
Devotee: He wants to come and see you.
Gour Govinda Swami: He will come to see me? All right. Yes, yes. Yes.
Devotee: I'll bring him.
Gour Govinda Swami: Pray, pray to, pray to Gopāla for me, such a degraded fallen soul.
Devotee: Haribol.
Devotee: There's no way, He wants to come and see you.
Gour Govinda Swami: Let Him shower his mercy on me. Mañjarī, pray for me.
Devotee: No.
Gour Govinda Swami: Pray to your Gopāla, you see, Mañjarī, for me, a degraded fallen soul, you see. I am. Very good. That is very good. You got it. You first get. Don't lose him, [don't] lose Gopāla. Keep him, keep him always. He is very greedy fellow. He is very greedy. Yes. Greedy of that love. That mellow, that mellow coming out, prema-rasa. You always feed him, feed him that, so he will not leave you. If you won't feed him such, he may want to leave you.
Don't leave him. Take care of him nicely as Rādhārāṇī was taking care of, is taking care of or Yaśodā Mātā is taking care of Gopāla. You take care of him so nicely, feeding him, feeding him what he wants, what he is greedy of, prema-rasa, prema-rasa. That is prema-rasa, mellow, that love. Then he will never leave you. Wherever you go, he will follow as the calf follows the cow, calf follows the cow. And Gopāla will follow you. Oh my mother.
Devotee: He was happy to go on parikramā in Navadvīpa, and everybody saw him. Now that we went—
Gour Govinda Swami: Accha. Oh, very nice. Everybody saw him. Yes. Very nice. Yes. Yes.
Devotee: And he swam in the Gaṅgā.
Gour Govinda Swami: Oh, very nice. You take care of Gopāla, very nicely. Yes. Give him every moment. Give him pleasure. Give him pleasure and happiness. Yes.
Devotee: You know that song that Śrī Caitanya's favorite song?
Gour Govinda Swami: Nāma Kṛṣṇa.
Devotee: Gopāla Govinda Rāma Śrī Madhusūdana, Giridhārī Gopīnātha Madana Mohana, Kṛṣṇa.
Gour Govinda Swami: Śrī Madhusūdana, uh-huh.
Devotee: Those are names of Gopāla.
Gour Govinda Swami: Yes, names of Gopāla, names of Kṛṣṇa, only names of Kṛṣṇa.
Devotee: Who is this other one?
Gour Govinda Swami: Cupid, yes. Cupid. Madana Mohana.
Devotee: Yes, from the Badari.
Gour Govinda Swami: Yes. Madana Mohana, Vṛndāvana aprākṛta abhinava-nava. Caitanya Caritāmṛta. In Vṛndāvana he is transcendental Cupid. Not material Cupid. Transcendental Cupid. Ever fresh, ever young, ever new. Never grows old. Such Cupid he is. Yes.
Devotee: When I leave my body, what will happen to him? Definitely. Will he come with me?
Gour Govinda Swami: I? If you drag me. If you drag me, then I may go. I'm such a fallen conditioned most degraded soul. How can I get? If you show your mercy on me and pray to Gopāla to show his mercy on me, then I may be able to go, to follow you. Try and offer prayer for me, Mañjarī. Yes.
Devotee: But I don't think I need to pray for you.
Gour Govinda Swami: No. No. You are, you are very unkind. So cruel to me. You are so cruel to me, unkind to me. Says you, you will never pray for me. What shall I do?
vaiṣṇavere nive dhane kṛṣṇa dayā-maya
eheno pāmare pati hoibe sva-dayā
When a Vaiṣṇava, who is dear devotee, who has bound him in his or her heart with the rope of love, such a Vaiṣṇava will pray for me, such degraded, most degraded soul as I am. Then inside merciful Gopāla Kṛṣṇa, will think of me. They understand. And he will be merciful to me. Otherwise, how he will be merciful to me? Will you pray for Gopāla? You pray for me. Please pray. You have gotten Gopāla. I have not gotten.
You have to pray. Haribol, Mañjarī. Thank you.
Devotee: Thank you.
