Gour Govinda Swāmī: Śrīmad Bhāgavatam. Eighth canto. Chapter nine. Text 26. śiras tv amaratāṁ nītam ajo graham acīkḷpat yas tu parvaṇi candrārkāv abhidhāvati vaira-dhīḥ [ŚB 8.9.26]

Translation by Śrīla Prabhupāda. Rāhu’s head, however, having been touched by the nectar, became immortal. Thus Lord Brahmā accepted Rāhu’s head as one of the planets. Since Rāhu is an eternal enemy of the moon and the sun, he always tries to attack them on the nights of the full moon and the dark moon.

Since Rāhu had become immortal, Lord Brahmā accepted him as one of the grahas, or planets, like the moon and the sun. Rāhu, however, being an eternal enemy of the moon and sun, attacks them periodically during the nights of the full moon and the dark moon.

So, this Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is such a scripture, essence of all Vedic scriptures. Śrīmad Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Prabhupāda Mahārāja says if all the granthas, books, from the library of the world will be destroyed, there will be no harm if Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is there, only Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is there, says that. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is such a scripture, essence of all Vedic scripture, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.

kṛṣṇa-tulya bhāgavata — vibhu, sarvāśraya
prati-śloke prati-akṣare nānā artha kaya [CC Madhya 24.318]

As good as Kṛṣṇa, non-different from Kṛṣṇa. Manifestation of Kṛṣṇa. bhāgavata, tulasī, gaṅgāya, bhakta-jane caturdhā vigraha kṛṣṇa ei cāri sane [Caitanya Bhāgavata 2.21.81]. The four manifestation of Kṛṣṇa here, material world. Bhāgavata, Tulasī, Gaṅgā and Bhakta Bhāgavata, devotee Bhāgavata, Mahā-bhāgavata.

Four manifestations of Kṛṣṇa. You want to see Kṛṣṇa? See. The four manifestation of Kṛṣṇa here. Non-different Kṛṣṇa. kṛṣṇera śrī-aṅga. bhāgavata kṛṣṇera śrī-aṅga. He is the body of Kṛṣṇa. This Bhāgavata is body of Kṛṣṇa. tahate kahena yata gopya krsna-ranga [Caitanya Bhāgavata 3.3.516]. All confidential lilā’s are described here, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. None different from Kṛṣṇa. Therefore who understands this tattva.

Here it says how Rahu's head has been accepted by Lord Brahmā as one of the planets. Because Rahu's head became immortal, because touched nectar. So that is accepted one of the planets, graha. Since Rahu is an eternal enemy of moon and sun, always tries to attack them, nights, full moon and dark moon. That's eclipse. That is astrology. Astrology, one of the part of Veda, Jyotirveda. We say jyotirveda, one of the parts of Veda. Veda has different different parts, division. Isn’t it? Divisions.

Devotee: It depends which you read. If it is in karma-kānda. Jnana-kānda, pancama-kānda, depends on..

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Devotee: Four Vedas.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yeah.

Devotee: Eighteen Purāṇas.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yeah.

Devotee: Upaniṣads.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Devotee: Mahābhārata.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Devotee: Then all the sub-branches like Dhanurveda, Āyurveda, Kṛta-vedas, Dharma-śāstra.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes. Then? Veda, then Vedāṅga is limb of Veda, Vedāṅga. Veda has four divisions: Saṃhitā, Brāhmaṇa, Āraṇyaka, Upaniṣad, or Vedānta. Four divisions.

Saṃhitā, Brāhmaṇa, Āraṇyaka, Upaniṣad or Vedānta. These are four divisions of Veda. You know it. Right? Saṃhitā means mantras, sukta, mantra or mantras. Mantra portion. Brāhmaṇa portion mainly written on prose, gadhya prose. Prose, prose. Not poetry. Prose.

And what you say? Rules, regulations, procedures to follow, to perform certain yajña are given in that portion. In what yajña, what mantra will be chanted, that is given there, that portion, that Brāhmaṇa portion. Āraṇyaka portion is written by some ṛishis, those who live in Araṇya, forest. That is also one part of Brāhmaṇa portion, is Āraṇyaka. Brāhmaṇas, Āraṇyaka.

Upaniṣad Vedānta, that topmost portion of Veda, is Upaniṣad Vedānta. Many, many Upaniṣads are there, out of which 108 Upaniṣads is famous Upaniṣads, they say, 108 Upaniṣads. But many are there. Then comes Veda— Vedāṅga. Vedāṅga. Limb, aṅga means limb, aṅga means limb. It's a limb of Veda. This, uh, Vedāṅga portion conceals six divisions, in six types of Vedāṅga-śāstra.

There are six types of Vedāṅga-śāstra. What are they? Śikṣā, Kalpa, Vyākaraṇa, Nirukta, Chanda, Jyotiṣa. It is astronomy, Jyotiṣa. Not? Śikṣā, Kalpa, Vyākaraṇa, Nirukta, Chanda, and Jyotiṣa. These six. Six types of Vedāṅga-śāstra. Do you follow?

So this Jyotiṣa is there, one of them. My point is here, Jyotiṣa means astronomy, astrology. It is one limb of Veda. Therefore, this is here. Planets, as Rahu is accepted one of the planets, graha. And how it changes; its eternal enemy - sun and moon. New moon and full moon days. Like this. So I am not going to explain all these things. My point is different point. I have to deal with this thing.

So in Bhāgavatam, everything is there. Bhāgavatam, everything is there. So Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Prabhupāda Mahārāja says this thing, ‘If all the books, from the library of the world will be destroyed, there will be no harm at all if only Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is there’.

Then everything is there. Only by hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam one can develop this very silly Kṛṣṇa bhakti. yasyāṃ vai śrūyamāṇāyāṃ kṛṣṇe parama-pūruṣe bhaktir utpadyate puṃsaḥ śoka-moha-bhayāpahā [SB 1.7.7]. Only by hearing, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, one can develop very easily Kṛṣṇa bhakti as a result of which the lamentation, so-called delusions, śoka-moha-bhayā - fears, will be completely destroyed by development of such Kṛṣṇa bhakti.

And that Kṛṣṇa bhakti can be achieved only by hearing yasyāṃ vai śrūyamāṇāyāṃ. sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhir ye prāyaśo ’jita jito ’py asi tais tri-lokyām. Whatever position one may be, no need of changing position, only he should come every day, daily, to a bhakta-bhāgavata, Vaiṣṇava bhāgavata, and hear Bhāgavata from him.

Yes. This is sufficient. Then, very easily develop bhakti, Kṛṣṇa bhakti, pure bhakti, prema-bhakti. sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhir ye prāyaśo ’jita jito ’py asi tais tri-lokyām [ŚB 10.14.3]. Hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam from the right source, from the lips of a bhakta-bhāgavata, who develops such prema-bhakti thereby he will be able to conquer the unconquerable, who is unconquerable in three worlds.

That is Kṛṣṇa. He is Ajita. One of the names of Kṛṣṇa is Ajita. He is unconquerable. Nobody can conquer, but He can conquer. Bhaktair jitatvaṁ-bhaktair-baddhatvaṁ. When one develops such prema-bhakti, he can conquer the unconquerable, Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa can be conquered. And Kṛṣṇa becomes very much pleased if He's conquered by such a devotee. That gets us pleasure by that.

Mother Yaśodā bound him up. And Bhīṣmadeva conquered Him. Defeated Him. Isn't it? That is bhakta. Bhīṣma tomār jiṇila samare. Isn't it? Kṛṣṇa had promised He will not to take up any weapon and fight in battle of Kurukṣetra, but Bhīṣma broke that promise. Bhīṣma broke that promise. That is the dint of bhakti.

That is there. So, Kṛṣṇa becomes bound up with pure bhakti, prema-bhakti. And you will develop such prema-bhakti only by hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam - yasyāṃ vai śrūyamāṇāyāṃ kṛṣṇe parama-pūruṣe bhaktir utpadyate.

Parīkṣit Mahārāja only had, he had only seven days’ time, isn’t it? He was cursed, only he had seven days’ time, life time finished. So what he did? He only heard. Did not do anything. Prior to coming of Śukadeva Gosvāmī many sages, saints were assembled there, isn’t it? They were all assembled there.

He asked the same question what shall I do, now? I have only seven days’ time I am going to die, finish. How can I achieve highest perfection of my life, human life. My life is going to finish only seven days’ time. How can I achieve? He became so up and eager. Please tell me, please tell me. Within very short period of this time, what shall be done? What shall I do and achieve the highest perfection of life? Instruct me.

Then all sages, saints, nānā-muni-nānā-muni, different different opinions came out, nothing could be analyzed, accepted. So at last Śukadeva Gosvāmī came, twelve-year, sixteen-year-old boy only, naked boy. Then same question was asked, he said, ‘You hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam’. That's it. That’s all. Unanimously he approached. Unanimously they all agreed. Yes, that’s alright.

All agreed. Yes, you hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. So Śukadeva Gosvāmī said, vaiyāsakiḥ kīrtane parīkṣid śravaṇe [CC Madhya 22.136]. Parīkṣita only heard, only heard Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam from the right source, lips of Śukadeva Gosvāmī, bona fide authority of Bhāgavatam.

And he got highest perfection. He became so fearless proclaimed, ‘Thousands and thousands of Takṣaka’s and Guhaka’s come and bite me, I am not afraid. You go on Hari kirtan.’ Makes fearless. śoka-moha-bhayāpahā. This is the effect of hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. You develop such prema-bhakti and get Kṛṣṇa, completely surrender unto the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa,

Only by hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam you will develop such thing. If you hear from right source like Parīkṣit Mahārāja asked Śukadeva Gosvāmi. And in Kali-yuga what shall we do? In Kali-yuga your life span is so short and going shorter shorter shorter, kalāv asmin yuge janāḥ prāyeṇālpāyuṣaḥ. Hundred years maximum.

How many are living for hundred years? Because of the sinful activities, Kali-yuga, lifespan is getting shorter, shorter, shorter, shorter. Isn't it? Yes. What shall you do? Veda, unlimited. Veda is such, it is unlimited. How can you read Veda and get a śikṣā. So the essence of all Veda is Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Only Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.

cāri-veda-upaniṣade yata kichu haya tāra artha lañā vyāsa karilā sañcaya [CC Madhya 25.98]. Whatever there in four Vedas, all Upaniṣads, essences here in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. It is commentary on Vedānta-sūtra. Yes. Therefore, we have this, every day, daily, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam pāṭha-pravacana. Hearing. This arrangement is here.

For the whole world, my Guru Mahārāja has made this arrangement. The whole world, if they, all human beings develop Kṛṣṇa consciousness only they come and hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam from bhakta-bhāgavata, he will easily develop devotion. Whole will be delivered. Kali-yuga will be driven out from the world. So you'll be in Satya-yuga. Satya-yuga.

If you want to drive out Kali-yuga, come and hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. And in whole world, all nook and corner of the world, Śrīla Prabhupāda has made this arrangement. Open centers, ISKCON centers, and this is there. Come and hear. Therefore, we have opened this, constructed such nice temple, opened the center, we give this education, Bhāgavata-śikṣā.

No school, college, university imparts this education. We impart. We opened such university here. Caitanya University. And free education. It's free. It's free education. We give free education. Now, you have not to pay any fee. It's free education we are imparting.

Highest sublime education, thereby achieve the highest perfection, supreme perfection of your life. Only, if you come and daily, and hear from the right source, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, develop such prema-bhakti, thereby you can bind up Kṛṣṇa, get Kṛṣṇa and make your life successful. This is what.

When Mahāprabhu came, then you can understand this thing. śrīmad-bhāgavataṁ pramāṇam amalaṁ premā pum-artho mahān śrī-caitanya-mahāprabhor matam idaṁ tatrādarāḥ na paraḥ [Caitanya-mata-mañjuṣā: 1.1]. Mahāprabhu said this thing. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is faultless proof, pramāṇam amalaṁ premā pum-artho mahān. prema-bhakti-tattva has been said here. We accept this. What Mahāprabhu has said, tatrādarāḥ na paraḥ, we never accepted any other thing. We accept what Mahāprabhu has said.

And when Mahāprabhu was teaching Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, speaking from Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. nigama-kalpa-taroḥ galitaṁ phalaṁ śuka-mukhād amṛta-drava-saṁyutam pibata bhāgavataṁ rasam ālayam muhur aho rasikā bhuvi bhāvukāḥ [SB 1.1.3]. That is, nigama-kalpa-taroḥ galitaṁ phalaṁ. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the most ripened, sweetest, nectarian, juicy fruit of Vedic tree.

This is such a, such a fruit, Vedic tree is only juice. Such a juicy fruit that no skin, no seed. In material world we find a juicy fruit that mango, that contains seed inside and a skin outside but it has no seed, no skin, only nectarian, very sweet juice. And you may taste anywhere you like, in the beginning, in the middle, or at the end- ādi, madhye, ante. Wherever you like you taste, get only sweet juice, nectarine juice, nothing else.

So we are giving such nectar and inviting, calling, "Come! Come! Come! Drink nectar." Who is giving nectar? Rahu just tossed that nectar. It is better nectar; his head became immortal. So if you drink this nectar, your whole body become immortal. You'll get Kṛṣṇa.

asoka-abhoya, amrta-adhara, tomara carana-dwaya tahate ekhona, visrama labhiya chadinu bhavera bhoya [Saranagati, Atma Nivedana Tuwa Pade]

You develop such prema-bhakti that you will get Kṛṣṇa, can bind up Kṛṣṇa. You will be free from all sorts of material lamentations, delusions, and fear. Become fearless. Taking shelter at the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa means there's no question of fear, no lamentation, no delusion. Such a place, lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa. That is only place where all should take shelter. asoka-abhoya, amrta-adhara, tomara carana-dwaya tahate ekhona, visrama labhiya chadinu bhavera bhoya, Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura Mahājana said that thing.

And Parīkṣit Mahārāja became fearless by hearing Śukadeva Gosvāmī, developing such bhakti, prema-bhakti, complete shelter he took. So Mahāprabhu came. Mahāprabhu is Kṛṣṇa himself. Not different from Kṛṣṇa. And He came, to teach you that prema-bhakti. That you develop by hearing from Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.

To teach you that, to teach you that prema-bhakti, that means śaraṇāgati. And it is question of prema. Without that we say, without prema, there is no question of śaraṇāgati. Without śaraṇāgati, there are no question of prema at all.

So Mahāprabhu is freely giving prema - atyanta durlabha prema koribāre dāna śikhāya śaraṇāgati bhakatera prāna. That is song by Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura. atyanta durlabha prema koribāre - nigūḍha-prema, very confidential, secret prema. To give that secret and confidential prema, Mahāprabhu descended here and taught śaraṇāgati. How one surrender completely unto the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa. Thereby, that prema, it is question of prema, eternal identity.

So this question is there, Mahāprabhu is freely distributing prema. So there is a reservoir of; there is the what do you say [Odia]

Devotee: Treasurer.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Treasurer of that treasury.

Devotee: Treasure keeper.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Treasure keeper, yes. Who is the treasure keeper of that treasury? That is the question. And is there no doors in that treasury? Is open treasury or what? This question is there. Do you know it’s answer?

Devotee: Śrīmati Rādhā-Raṇī?

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu is the treasure keeper of that treasury. prema-bhāṇḍāra.

Devotee: Prema-bhāṇḍāra? The treasury where prema is stored up, Nityānanda Prabhu is the treasurer, treasure keeper, is adhyakṣa.

Devotee: Custodian?

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Custodian. Yes, you may say custodian. Nityānanda Prabhu is the custodian. Yes, the English words, you see. Of that storehouse, treasury.

Nityānanda Prabhu is more merciful, more magnanimous, more munificent than Gaurāṅga. Nityānanda Prabhu is more merciful, more munificent and more magnanimous than Gaurāṅga. He is Nityānanda Prabhu. With His two hands, He is distributing this prema. Nityānanda Prabhu is distributing this prema with His two hands. He's always in ecstatic mood. Intoxicated mood.

Nityānanda Prabhu is always in intoxicated mood. That prema. Prema is like a liquor, prema-madira. He is drunken, that prema liquor and always in intoxicated mood. He is more merciful, more magnificent and more magnanimous than Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu.

heno nitāi vine bhāi rādhā-kṛṣṇa pāite nāi [Nitāi-pada-kamala, Verse 2]. heno nitāi vine bhāi rādhā-kṛṣṇa pāite nāi, isn't it? dhara nitāira caraṇa du’khāni. Dhara nitāira caraṇa du’khāni - clasp tightly the two lotus feet of that Nitāi. Without his mercy, nobody can get Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa.

Nobody can get. And He is the custodian of that treasury, prema-bhāṇḍāra. With two hands He is distributing. Is He drunken? That prema liquor? Drunken that prema liquor? He is always an ecstatic mood, always intoxicated. Drunken as a drunkard? ḍhuliya ḍhuliya cale.

dhuliya ḍhuliya cale bāhu tuli’ hari bole dhuliya ḍhuliya cale bāhu tuli’ hari bole
du’ nayane bahe nitāira pāni

Gour Govinda Swāmī:
ḍhuliya ḍhuliya cale bāhu tuli’ hari bole. Nice song is there. Vṛndāvana dāsa Ṭhākura has written. You know this thing? Nitāi. āre bhāi nitāi āmāra dayāra nidhi.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Bolo. āre bhāi nitāi āmāra dayāra nidhi. Bolo. Can't sing? You can't help me? Shall I sing alone?

āre bhāi nitāi āmāra dayāra avadhi jīvera karuṇā kari deśe deśe phiri phiri prema-dhana yāce nirabadhi advaitera sańge rańga dharaṇe nā yāya ańga gorā-preme gaḍhā tanu-khāni ḍhuliyā ḍhuliyā cale bahu tili hari bale du’-nayane bahe nitā-ira pāṇi [Are Bhai Nitai Amar Doyara Avadhi].

Gour Govinda Swāmī: As I said, you see. nitāi āmāra dayāra nidhi. If there is some limit to this mercy, then Nityānanda is the limit. Last limit. If there will be any limit to that mercy, then Nityānanda is the last limit. No more than that. dayāra avadhi.

jīvera karuṇā kari deśe deśe phiri phiri prema-dhana yāce nirabadhi Always constantly distributing that prema-dhana, wandering everywhere. So wonderfully munificent, so wonderfully merciful, so wonderfully magnanimous, Nitāi.

advaitera saṅge rańga dharaṇe nā yāya aṅga gorā-preme gaḍā tanu-khāni He always cuts jokes with Advaita. Because they are Godbrothers. And His whole body is made up of gaura-prema. Whole body is made up of gaura-prema.

ḍhuliya ḍhuliya cale bāhu tuli’ hari bole du’ nayane bahe nitāi pāni Because He is intoxicated, He is drunken of that liquor, prema liquor. So He is intoxicated, drunken. Nitāi. So always raising two hands. Hari Hari chanting and shedding tears from two eyes. Just moving and distributing that prema-dhana. Such a Nitāi.

akrodha paramānanda nityānanda rāya abhimāna-śūnya nitāi nagare beḍāya adhama patita jīva dvāre dvāre giyā harināma mahā-mantra dicchena bilāiyā [Akrodha Paramānanda]. nitāi nām eneche braja theke. nitāi nām eneche braja theke re jīvera daśā, malina dekhe’ [Hare Krsna Hare Nitai Ki Nam Eneche Re]. jīvera daśā malina dekhe nitāi nām eneche braja theke re teke.

Do you know this thing? What are you? What do you know? Why don't you know all these things? Vaiṣṇava, how can you become Vaiṣṇava? How can you become Vaiṣṇava? Then you become a cheater, only you cheat people, not teach, isn't it? Jayanta-krt? Jayanta-krt is cheater, not teacher.

How to be teacher? nitāi ki nām eneche re (nitāi) nām eneche, nāmer hāṭe, śraddhā-mūlye nām diteche re hare kṛṣṇa hare kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa hare hare re hare rāma hare rāma rāma rāma hare hare re jīvera daśā, malina dekhe’, nām eneche braja theke re e nām śiva jape pañca-mukhe re (madhur e harinām) e nām brahmā jape catur-mukhe re (madhur e harinām) e nām nārada jape vīnā-yantre re (madhur e harinām) e nāmābase ajāmila vaikuṇṭhe gelo re e nām bolte bolte braje calo re (bhaktivinoda bole) [Hare Krsna Hare Nitai Ki Nam Eneche Re].

So, it is Nitāi. jīvera daśā malina dekhe nām eneche braja theke. Nitāi so wonderfully merciful His heart bleed. So He brought this nāma, madhura nāma, so sweet nectarean nāma from Vrajabhūmi and descended here.

ei nāma śiva jape pañca-mukhete. Śiva. Lord Śiva chants this name in his five mouths. madhura ei harināma - is very sweet. Nectarean. ei nāma brahmā jape catur-mukhete. Lord Brahmā chant this nāma in his four mouths. madhura ei harināma ei nāma nārada gāya vīṇā-tantre. Nārada Muni chants this sweet hari-nāma with his vīṇā string instrument. ei nāmābhāse ajāmila vaikuṇṭha. Nāmābhās, Ajāmila such a great sinful person. He had got nāmābhāse, thereby this. Nāmābhās he went to Vaikunta.

(42:57- 44:25 missing)

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Śrī Sanātana Gosvāmī is security guard there. Previously, there was very strong door. But now no door is there. Very strong door was there, everything, very strong padlock was there, everything was there, but now there is nothing.

This guard, Sanātana Gosvāmī, made it open by writing Vaiṣṇava-toṣaṇī grantha. Do you understand me? Jayanta-krt? This is our Vaiṣṇava tattva. He wrote this grantha, Vaiṣṇava-toṣaṇī, Bṛhad-vaiṣṇava-toṣaṇī, Laghu-vaiṣṇava-toṣaṇī. He wrote Bṛhad-vaiṣṇava-toṣaṇī, Sanātana Gosvāmī, Laghu-vaiṣṇava-toṣaṇī is written by Rūpa Gosvāmī, all this bhakti-grantha, they wrote, thereby they opened, made it wide open, these all doors, padlocks were broken, everything now.

And they are calling everybody, "Oh, brother! Please come! Please come! Now it is wide open for one and all. This nectar is now flowing and it's creating an ocean. Please come and inundate yourself now in this ocean. Drown yourself in this ocean now. If you drown yourself in this ocean of prema, you will kick that position of Brahmā if he will be offered to you." ‘Ahh chi tho, I don't want this thing.’ Position of Brahmā, what is that. It is insignificant.

So Mahāprabhu, Śrīman Mahāprabhu has appointed Nityānanda Prabhu as the custodian, treasure keeper, and Sanātana Gosvāmī as the security guard there. So this bhāgavata-dharma dharmaḥ projjhita-kaitavo ’tra paramo nirmatsarāṇāṁ satāṁ vedyaṁ vāstavam atra vastu śivadaṁ tāpa-trayonmūlanam [SB 1.1.2].

Bhāgavatam says this thing. We first chant this thing. Bhāgavatam teaches this bhāgavata-dharma, which is not kaitava-dharma, which is not cheating dharma. Four types of cheating are there, isn't it? Kaitava catuṣṭaya - dharma, artha, kāma, mokṣa.

So this Bhāgavata doesn't teach such dharma. It's akaitava. It's devoid of kaitava-dharma, that means kaitava means kāpaṭya, cheating, crookedness. This kaitava. So this bhāgavata-dharma is devoid of kāpaṭya, devoid of cheating dharma, devoid of crookedness. Those nirmatsarāṇāṃ satāṃ vedyaṃ, those who are non-envious devotees, those are not envious, those are free from crookedness, they can understand this bhāgavata-dharma tattva, prema-dharma tattva. Otherwise, nobody can understand it. That verse says, nirmatsarāṇāṃ satāṃ vedyaṃ.

Three types of crooked persons are there. Three types of crooked persons. Do you know it? Jayanta-krt, you know? Three types of crooked. I tell you now, you think of what type of crooked you are. What type of crooked you are, what type of crooked he is or he is. Three types.

First type is dhana-kapaṭī. Dhana means one who has wealth. You see? He has wealth, wealthy person. And he comes and hears the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. But he doesn't spend his wealth for the service of sādhu, guru, Vaiṣṇava, Kṛṣṇa. He is first type of crooked person, dhana-kapaṭī. dhana-kapaṭī. Dhana means wealth. kapaṭī means crooked person. Do you understand me? First type of crooked person, dhana-kapaṭī. Second type,

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Oh yes, what type?

Devotee: I don't understand your language.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: If you can’t understand my language, cause my language is faulty language. You can’t understand? That means you are not kapaṭī.

Devotee: He can’t understand

Gour Govinda Swāmī: (laughs) He says that he is not kapaṭī. So you know, he is some new type of kapaṭī.

Devotee: (laughing) A combination of three.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Combination of three. Yes, combination of three, this is a new type. Some new type. Another question. Shall I continue?

Devotee: Yes.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: You are thirsty?

Devotee: Yes.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: To drink this nectar?

Devotee: Yes.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Another question. I am a great offender, aparādhī. Hai! Alas! I cannot develop attraction towards such nectarian, sweet, nectarian līlā, Śrīman Mahāprabhu. How can I get the mercy of Mahāprabhu? Mahāprabhu is wonderfully mercy, munificent.

Wonderfully munificent, wonderfully merciful, wonderfully magnanimous, but I cannot get it. I'm such a great offender. I cannot develop any attraction, any attachment, any interest in such nectarian, sweet, nectarian līlā Mahāprabhu. How can I get mercy of Mahāprabhu? This is the question. Jayanta-krt? So what is its answer? Can you answer this question? No? Mahāprabhu, one of the names of Mahāprabhu Gaurāṅga is Śrī Śacīnandana, son of Śacī Mātā. Mother Śacī. So Mother Śacī had such affection. The mother’s affection, mother’s heart. Whatever the son may be, mother’s affection is there. kuputra may be a bad son, but one cannot become a bad mother.

That affection is quite natural with the mother. One may be a bad son, but there is no bad mother. A mother’s natural affection is there. This is our siddhānta, conclusion. It’s under this kind of siddhānta, that Mahāprabhu is a great devotee of mother. mātṛ-bhakta.

What mother says, He does, isn't it? After taking of sannyāsa, He was going to Vṛndāvana, but Mother Śacī says, "No, don't go to Vṛndāvana. Go to your actual purī-dhāma, Jagannātha." So He came here. He always gives pleasure to His mother. He keeps up her words. He is great devotee of His mother, mātṛ-bhakta.

So after taking on sannyāsa, there was meeting between Gaurāṅga and Śacī Mātā in Advaita-bhavana, isn't it? In the residence of Advaita Ācarya. First meeting there. Śacī Mātā met Him there after taking on sannyāsa. He came to Śāntipur, Advaita, at his residence, and Śacī Mātā went there. And so there is conversation between Mother Śacī and Gaurāṅga.

Name of Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu is Viśvambhara, isn't it? The name of his elder brother is Viśvarūpa, isn't it? So Śacī Mātā says, "Oh, Viśvambhara, you know your elder brother, Viśvarūpa, took up sannyāsa, left me." "He gave me so much distress. Don't you know it? And you took up the same sannyāsa, leaving me?"

“I am such a sinful person. So many lives, I have committed so many sins. So as a result of it, I am getting all these things, my sons are all leaving me, taking up sannyāsa. If I would have died prior to death of your father, then that would have been better." Śacī Mātā is saying like this.

"But I didn't die. Yama didn't take me. I'm surviving. Now your elder brother left taking up sannyāsa, and you are leaving now. In this society, I am condemned. What shall I do? Death is not coming to me. Shall I take poison? Shall I take poison. Shall I drown myself into, into the Ganges? Then what will the people say here in Nadīyā? Nobody will utter my name. I'm such an unfortunate woman. It’s better I should be driven out from Nadīyā. Oh! My darling! My son Viśvambhara, now you tell what shall I do?”

Then Viśvambhara said, Mahāprabhu said, "Mother! Mother! Please, don't say like this. Don't say like this. Don't be so much distressed. Don't feel yourself so much distressed. I am giving you this word to you, though I have taken sannyāsa, though I have left home, still, wherever I may go, but I am your son.

Nobody is my mother. You are my mother, eternal mother. You're always my mother." "And you'll be worshiped in three planetary systems, tri-bhuvana, because of my mother." "If somebody may be great sinful person, thousands and thousands of sinful activities he may have committed, still, if he utters name Śacī-suta, Śacī-nandana once, immediately he'll be free from all the reactions of his sin. I give you this word.

And he'll capture Me. If with pleasure, with ecstasy, with joyfulness, he chants this name, Śrī Śacīnandana, he becomes immediately free from all sinful reactions. Not only that, all Vedic knowledge, Vedic truth will be revealed to him, and he will become very dear to me, will develop love towards me."

“Whatever way it may be, any way, if some person chants this - Śacīnandana, Śrī Śacīnandana, Śrī Śacīnandana, he purchases Me. Not only Me, he purchases all My associates. With joyfulness, cheerfulness, ecstasy, if someone does this kīrtana, 'Jaya Śacīnandana, Jaya Śacīnandana,' so his life will be successful, will achieve this supreme perfection in life."

"And if someone only utters the words 'Śacī, Śacī, Śacī-putra, Śacīnandana, the residence of Śacī, Navadvīpa,' then it is to be understood that he has already studied all the Vedas and Vedāntas, and I become so much satisfied with him. Life after life, he gets Me. So I give you this word. So I said, if someone utters the name of Śacī, Śacī-nandana, Gaurasundara Śacīnandana, Gaurahari, he becomes very dear to me."

Therefore, Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī has written in his verse, this- Śacīnandana, what is it? What is that verse? karuṇayāvatīrṇaḥ kalau? 1.6.30

Devotee: samarpayitum?

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Eh?

Devotee: vraje prasiddhaṁ?

Gour Govinda Swāmī: No. karuṇayāvatīrṇaḥ kalau? What is that verse? Can't you remember that verse? He has written that verse. Our, Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī has written.

Tomorrow we'll recite it. We'll recite before studying Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, this famous verse, you see, anarpita.. anarpita-carīṁ cirāt karuṇayāvatīrṇaḥ kalau samarpayitum unnatojjvala-rasāṁ sva-bhakti-śriyam hariḥ puraṭa-sundara-dyuti-kadamba-sandīpitaḥ sadā hṛdaya-kandare sphuratu vaḥ śacī-nandanaḥ [CC Adi 1.4].

Do you understand Jayanta-krt? What are you doing? You can't remember all these things? This is what he says. Jaya Śrī śacī-nandanaḥ Gaurahari ki Jaya! This is what Mahāprabhu said, very easy process. You can develop prema, personal prema.

Don't say only Gaurahari or Gaurāṅga. Śacīnandana Gaurahari. Always. So, you can purchase Him, become so pleased. You'll develop everything, prema means everything. Thank you.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes. He has given that word to His mother. He's given that word. Very easy.

Devotee: So, some other story was there about Śacī Mātā, how she offended Advaita Ācārya.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes.

Devotee: That chapter was missing out of the Caitanya-bhāgavatam I had. I was very disappointed.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Anyhow, Mahāprabhu taught that thing. He made Śacī Mātā beg excuse.

Devotee: Yes.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Otherwise, that he thought. If commits vaishnava aparādha, one cannot get mercy. What is.. such great devotee of mother, mātṛ-bhakta..

Devotee: It, it seems like almost contradictory sometimes. Well, devotees are chanting, jaya śacīnandana. We've been chanting.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yeah.

Devotee: But somehow or another, sometimes, we're the most terrible cheaters.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yeah.

Devotee: Sometimes we're very bad cheaters, in all three respects.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: You see, one should be free from such crookedness. That I said.

Devotee: Some days we might feel free. Some days we feel like we're completely covered by this.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Three types of kapaṭīs. That I first told, this thing.

Devotee: Yeah.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Three types of kapaṭīs. Three types of crooked person. Dhana-kapaṭī, bala-kapaṭī, prema-kapaṭī. One should first be free from such kāpaṭya, crookedness. Then chant Śacīnandana, you get the result.

Devotee: Yes.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Do you understand me?

Devotee: Also, it is not so simple.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: He says it's not so simple. It's very difficult to give up this..

Devotee: Crooked.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Crookedness. Why are you becoming crooked? Give up this crookedness. Give up this crookedness. It's so simple.

Devotee: Please take a stick and instruct us.
