Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: mahā-mādaka prema-phala peṭa bhari’ khāya mātila sakala loka — hāse, nāce, gāya [CC Adi 9.49]
The fruit of love of Godhead distributed by Caitanya Mahāprabhu is such a great intoxicant that anyone who eats it, filling his belly, immediately becomes maddened by it, and automatically he chants, dances, laughs and enjoys. Such an intoxicant. Isn't it? Why not take marijuana or LSD? Such an intoxicant. Nice.

When Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, the great gardener, sees that people are chanting, dancing and laughing and that some of them are rolling on the floor and some are making loud humming sounds, He smiles with great pleasure. The hippies rolling naked, taking LSD and marijuana. Similar rolling. You, see? Very nice. Such intoxicant. Why don't you take such intoxicant? Gokula Das being mad. If you want to be mad, become mad, mad after this. Real madness. Real madness. Yes. So ecstatic. So transcendental madness. Madness for Kṛṣṇa . Yes. This, material world, people are mad after lust. You become mad after love. This is what love. prema-phala. Isn't it? The fruit of love of Godhead is real madness. Isn't it? Real madness.
This teaching of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's very important, hmm, for persons engaged in Hare Kṛṣṇa movement of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. In every centre of our institution, ISKCON, we have arranged for a love feast every Sunday. And when we actually see people come to our center, chant, dance, take prasad, become jubilant, purchase books, we know that certainly Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is always present in such transcendental activities and is very pleased and satisfied. Therefore, the members of ISKCON must increase this movement more and more. According to the principles that we are presently trying to execute. Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, thus being pleased, will smilingly glance upon them, bestowing His Favor, and the movement will be successful.

The great gardener, Lord Caitanya, personally eats this fruit, and as a result He constantly remains mad, as if helpless and bewildered.
Purport by Srila Prabhupada. It is the mission of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu to act Himself and teach the people. He says, āpani ācari’ bhakti karila pracāra (Cc. Ādi 4.41). One must first act himself and then teach. Then teaching will be effective. Otherwise, teaching will never be effective unless one self-acts. This is the function of a real teacher. Unless one is able to understand the philosophy that he speaks, it will not be effective. Therefore, one should not only understand the philosophy of the Caitanya cult but also implement it practically in one’s life.
While chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu sometimes fainted and remained unconscious for many hours. He prays in His Śikṣāṣṭaka (7)
yugāyitaṁ nimeṣeṇa cakṣuṣā prāvṛṣāyitam śūnyāyitaṁ jagat sarvaṁ govinda-viraheṇa me Śikṣāṣṭakam 7
“O Govinda! Feeling Your separation, I am considering a moment to be like twelve years or more. Yuga, Tears are flowing from My eyes like torrents of rain, and I am feeling all vacant in the world in Your absence.”
This is the perfectional stage of chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra. Have you achieved? Not touched. Not touched. Not even touched. Far, far away from it, isn't it? Far, far away. Even not touched it. Have you touched it? Not touched. So, are you really chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa? No. No chanting. Yes. You're not chanting at all. Not chanting. This is the test. This is the perfect stage of chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra and eating the fruit of love of Godhead as exhibited by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. One should not artificially imitate this stage. But if one is serious and sincerely follows the regulative principles and chants the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, the time will come when these symptoms will appear. Tears will fill his eyes. He will be unable to chant distinctly the Mahamantra and his heart will throb in ecstasy. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu says that one should not imitate this, but a devotee should long for the day to come when such symptoms of trance will automatically appear in his body. kabe ha'be bolo se-dina āmār. Isn't it? That nice song is there. kabe ha'be bolo se-dina āmār. One should long for that day to come. When that auspicious day will come to me?

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: This is what, kabe ha'be bolo se-dina āmār That is what? "A devotee should long for the day to come when such symptoms should trans- automatically appear in his body." Should not imitate. You should not... You should long for that day. kabe ha'be bolo se-dina āmār When that day will come to me, these symptoms will appear. All right? Understood? Real madness. Isn't it? Real madness. Become mad for Kṛṣṇa. Love of Kṛṣṇa is such a real intoxicant. A real intoxicant. Why are you taking LSD, marijuana? You're rascal. Foolish person. He is foolish. Real intoxicant is so nice, ecstatic. Sweet, Nectarian. Real intoxicant. Completely forget. Become mad, completely forget this material existence. Completely forgetfulness. Ha! No more. Finished. Alright. (laughs) mahā-mādaka prema-phala peṭa bhari’ khāya.

So, you should understand this intoxicant. How this intoxicant is. Mm. With the sankirtan movement, the Lord made everyone mad like Himself. We do not find anyone who has not been intoxicated by His sankirtan movement. The fruit of love of Godhead distributed by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is such a great intoxicant that anyone who eats it, filling his belly, immediately becomes maddened by it, and automatically he chants, dances, laughs and enjoys. Isn't it? Such intoxicant.
When Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, great gardener, sees that people are chanting, dancing, laughing, and that some of them are rolling on the floor and some are making loud humming sounds, He smiles with great pleasure. The gardener, Lord Chaitanya, personally eats this fruit, and as a result He constantly remains mad, as if helpless, and bewildered. Here it says, "Chaitanya Mahaprabhu thus being pleased will smilingly glance upon them, bestowing His favour." Mahaprabhu does like that. This is, here it say,
bāhu tuli’ hari bali’ prema-dṛṣṭye cāya kariyā kalmaṣa nāśa premete bhāsāya
CC Adi 3.62
(Bengali). Mahaprabhu was mad. bāhu tuli’ raising His hands. See this. Or raising His hands, two hands. hari bali’. Hare Kṛṣṇa , Hare Kṛṣṇa , Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa , Hare Hare. Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. Chanting this harinam prema-dṛṣṭye cāya. The cast is there. Glance filled with love. prema-dṛṣṭye cāya. Cast the glance filled with love. One and all those who do like this. kariyā kalmaṣa nāśa premete bhāsāya. By such glance, he destroys all the sinful reactions. Those who get such glance, merciful glance, of Mahaprabhu, their sinful reactions are completely finished, destroyed. Let us say this. And he becomes ecstatic. He becomes ecstatic. That person may be very degraded, very sinful, may have committed many, many sins for many, many lives, but he gets such, chance of being this merciful glance of Mahaprabhu immediately. All his sinful reactions are destroyed and he becomes ecstatic with prema, love. That is there.
You can find Mahaprabhu, hmm, taking a sannyas stayed here in Puri. He manifested his antya-lila here. Do you follow? Antya-lila? What do you say in English? Antya-lila? I know. Final pastime. He manifests final pastime, final pastime, he manifests as prema. With Raya Ramananda and Swarup Damodar Goswami. They were very intimate to him. They were very intimate to him. With them, he was always busy, absorbed in the discussion of prema, topics of prema, Kṛṣṇa prema. And he... Yes.
Once, Mahaprabhu, uh... You see, sometimes Mahaprabhu becomes so much mad, you see. He might be sleeping; he was sleeping in that small room. Gambhira was there. Is there in Puri, isn't it? Kasimisra's house. It is now Radhakanth Math. At night, he disappears from that house, you see. Nobody can understand how he goes, where he goes. Nobody can understand. Once he disappeared from that house. So, Raya Ramananda and Swarup Damodar Goswami and other devotees, they searched. "Where is Mahaprabhu? Where is Mahaprabhu?" They couldn't get him. They couldn't find him. Do you follow? They couldn't find him.
So, it became, it was morning now, day was... night was ended, it was morning, still Mahaprabhu, they couldn't find Mahaprabhu. So Swarup Damodar Goswami was going towards the Konark Temple you have seen, that direction he was going, and he saw a fisherman. A fisherman catches fish from the sea. Coming, dancing like mad and chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. Chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, and dancing. Come. You see, it's mentioned that antya-lila. Antya-lila. Because Mahaprabhu went out and saw this, sea and thought it as Yamuna River. Seeing the sea, Mahaprabhu thought of as Yamuna River, so he jumped in and became fainted. It's mentioned there, hours, hours, he was fainted. So, he floated on this water of the sea and high waves are, were raised there, so these waves are sometimes, raising him high, sometimes drowning like this. Like a dry piece of... dry log of wood. He was like that.
So, Mahaprabhu floated towards this Konark and there one fisherman was throwing his net and catching fish, so Mahaprabhu's body was caught up with his net. Then fisherman was pulling the net, it was so heavy. Fisherman was very happy, big fish was caught. Very big fish was caught, so the net was so heavy. But as soon as, hmm, he completely pulled his net from...... a dead body. It was just like dead body is fainted you, see? Uh, as soon as he touched the body, the body of Mahaprabhu, he became ecstatic, chanted Hare Kṛṣṇa , and danced like a madman. You see this madness? That fisherman, "Hari Hari, Hari Hari," chanting, saying, "Hari Hari," dancing like a madman, and he was coming.
And Svarup Damodar Goswami saw him. A fisherman was coming, chanting like a madman, dancing, uh, then Svarup Damodar Goswami could understand mist behind it. He said, "He might have seen this Mahaprabhu otherwise how?" He had become so mad and dancing, chanting, in ecstasy. Then Svarup Damodar Goswami asked him, "Why you are, uh, chanting, dancing like a madman?" Then that fisherman said, "I was catching fish, but I caught up a body of a dead man. As soon as I touched it, he was... That was a ghost. That ghost entered into me! That ghost entered into me. So now I have, I have become mad, and that ghost is making me dance, laugh, like this mad, ecstatic. That ghost is making me like that! And that ghost is, you see, producing some sound." He said, "Aah, aaah, aaah, aaah." And, "That sound you are producing, that ghost is lying there. Aha! I am If I will die, what shall my family member... How can my family members will live? I am maintaining my family, my wife, my children. The ghost has now entered into me. I will, I will die. So, I am going to ojha." Ojha means a person who knows a mantra. "He chants a mantra, then drive out ghost from me. I am going to that person, ojha."
Why you are going to other ojha?. he has become so long, shrunken shrunken into the body like tortoise, this is the stage Svarup Damodar goswami said no no that is Mahaprabhu you do not leave him, then he gave to Svarup Damodar goswami understood it as Mahaprabhu and completely unconscious only one cupin was there. Then Svarup Damodar goswami made him put on a dry piece of cloth. Many devotees came and chanted loudly “Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare." All the devotees chanted very loudly and danced Svarup Damodar goswami in the ear of Mahaprabhu started saying Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare." After some time, then Mahaprabhu became conscious, regained His consciousness. First half-conscious, then complete consciousness. Still, He was ecstatic.
He said to Svarup Damodar Goswami, "I had been to Vrindavan. I had been to Vrindavan. I saw Yamuna River, I went to Vrindavan and saw the son of Nanda Maharaj, Brajendra Nandan. He was doing water pastimes, playing in the water with the damsels of Braj Bhumi. You bring me here?" This is how Mahaprabhu's madness. Completely forgotten His existence. This is Mahaprabhu has taught us. And by chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa ..."Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare." One can become such mad, develop such ecstasy. Pure name, mukya pate jiva pay Krsna prema dhana if you chant pure name then you will get Krsna prema the love that is pure love the love the fruit of love godhead that is such intoxicant, such a great intoxicant that anyone who eats it filling his belly immediately becomes mad and automatically chants, dances, laughs. And dasya Thus he gets the mercy of Mahaprabhu. He gets the mercy of Mahaprabhu. MahaPrakash His merciful glance over him then immediately all his sinful reactions are destroyed he gets prema pure prema.
hena prema śrī-caitanya dilā yathā tathā jagāi mādhāi paryanta — anyera kā katha
[CC Ādi 8.20]
Śrī Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is distributing that prema indiscriminately, even Jagāi and Mādhāi’s got what to speak of others.
svatantra īśvara prema-nigūḍha-bhāṇdāra bilāila yāre tāre, nā kaila vicāra
[CC Ādi 8.21]
Without discrimination, he distributes prema to one and all. So when this question of prema comes, there is no discrimination of varna, ashram. It's above varna and ashram. This Nāma saṅkīrtana is, we say, both śādhyo śādhana. What you say in English? Means as well as end. It's means as well as end. End is Kṛṣṇa-prema. Two things are here in this chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa.
bhajanera madhye śreṣṭha nava-vidhā bhakti ‘kṛṣṇa-prema’, ‘kṛṣṇa’ dite dhare mahā-śakti
[CC Antya 4.70]
Navavidhā-bhakti is there. Śravaṇaṁ kīrtanaṁ viṣṇoḥ smaraṇaṁ vandanaṁ archanaṁ dāsyaṁ sakhyaṁ ātma-nivedanam. Isn't it? So, of this navavidhā-bhakti, this Nāma saṅkīrtan is topmost.
tāra madhye sarva-śreṣṭha nāma-saṅkīrtana niraparādhe nāma laile pāya prema-dhana
[CC Antya 4.71]
Out of this navavidhā-bhakti, Nāma saṅkīrtan is best, topmost. Through this Nāma saṅkīrtan, pure chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa, one can immediately get Kṛṣṇa prema.
kṛṣṇa-nāma, kṛṣṇa-guṇa, kṛṣṇa-līlā-vṛnda kṛṣṇera svarūpa-sama — saba cid-ānanda
[CC Madhya 17.135]
The name of Kṛṣṇa, the qualities of Kṛṣṇa, the transcendental pastimes of Kṛṣṇa are all transcendental like the form and body of Kṛṣṇa.
saṅkīrtana haite pāpa-saṁsāra-nāśana citta-śuddhi, sarva-bhakti-sādhana-udgama
[CC Antya 20.13]
Through this saṅkīrtana, one can do all sorts of śādhan. No other śādhan is required. Only the Nāma saṅkīrtan śādhan is only śādhan. No other śādhans are required. Kṛṣṇa-premoddhama because there by one can achieve Kṛṣṇa prema and also release the mellow premāmruta, the nectar. Of that prema. Kṛṣṇa-prāpti sevāmruta-samudra-madhye. At last he will get Kṛṣṇa, he will drown himself in that ocean of nectar. śārdya-śādhana-tattva ye kichu sakala hari-nāma-saṅkīrtane milibe sabala. What is the śārdya-śādhana-tattva? All tattva, all tattvas will be revealed to you if you only do this hari-nāma saṅkīrtan. Do you follow?
Again, another thing it is said here that, while chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa mahāmantra, Śrī Chaitanya Mahaprabhu sometimes fainted and remained unconscious for many, many hours. I gave that one example. He prays in his Śikṣāṣṭakam,
yugāyitaṁ nimeṣeṇa cakṣuṣā prāvṛṣāyitam śūnyāyitaṁ jagat sarvaṁ govinda-viraheṇa me
O Govinda, feeling Your separation, I am considering a moment to be like twelve years or more. Tears are flowing from my eyes like torrents of rain. I am feeling all vacant in the world in Your absence. This is perfectional stage of chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra and eating the fruit of love of Godhead as exhibited by Śrī Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. This is Mahaprabhu's teaching. Do you follow? This is Mahaprabhu's teaching. Vipralambha-bhāva, feeling pangs of separation. This is Mahaprabhu. Mahaprabhu is always in that mood, feeling pangs of separation. Vipralambha-bhāva. He is Kṛṣṇa Himself, but He is crying for Kṛṣṇa. Do you follow? He is Kṛṣṇa Himself, but He is crying for Kṛṣṇa. How He is crying? Jagat Ātma. He is Kṛṣṇa Himself, but He is crying for Kṛṣṇa. Isn't it?
hā hā kṛṣṇa prāṇa-dhana, hā hā padma-locana, hā hā divya sad-guṇa-sāgara!
hā hā śyāma-sundara, hā hā pītāmbara-dhara, hā hā rāsa-vilāsa nāgara
CC Antya 17.60
Do you understand this? Oh, Kṛṣṇa with My heart and soul, O lotus-eyed, padma-locana Kṛṣṇa, who is completely full with all, with all transcendental qualities. hā hā śyāma-sundara, hā hā pītāmbara-dhara, whose garment is yellow. pītāmbara-dhara, hā hā rāsa-vilāsa nāgara Oh, who dances... Kṛṣṇa who dances in Rasikas. kāhāṅ gele tomā pāi, tumi kaha, — tāhāṅ yāi”, Where shall I find you? You please tell me. Where shall I go and find you? He is saying like that. And crying. Crying. Crying.

CC Antya 19.35
Do yo follow? As Radharani was crying. As Radharani cries, feeling separation from Kṛṣṇa, Mahaprabhu's cries same, similarly. Hmm. That is Mahaprabhu's feeling of separation. yugāyitaṁ nimeṣeṇa This is Antya-Lila. And Radha Bhava is predominating. So, when He sees Svarup Damodar Goswami and Raya Ramananda, they are intimate sakhis, Vishakha-sakhi and Lalita-sakhi. When Radharani sees Vishakha-sakhi, Lalita-sakhi utters this and cries. Mahaprabhu is doing something. When Mahaprabhu sees Svarup Damodar Goswami and Lalita-sakhi, Raya Ramananda, He says kva nanda-kula-candramāḥ kva śikhi-candrakālaṅkṛtiḥ "O sakhi!" He is addressing them as sakhii, because feeling Himself as Radha and They are sakhies, Lalitaa and Vishakha. kva nanda-kula-candramāḥ Where is that son of Nanda Maharaj? Who sounds like moon and family of Nanda. "Ko shikhi kalam kriti hi?" Where is that Kṛṣṇa on whose creast peacock feather is there? So, it is Kṛṣṇa or any- anybody else? Peacock feather? Why He says, śikhi-candrakālaṅkṛtiḥ Mahaprabhu says, bolo
Devotee: Only Kṛṣṇa.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Only Kṛṣṇa. Nobody else. Only Kṛṣṇa . Sri Kṛṣṇa . śikhi-candrakālaṅkṛtiḥ, kva mandra-muralī-ravaḥ, Where is that Kṛṣṇa who plays so sweetly with His flute? Where is He? Murali-vadaka. kva nu surendra-nīla-dyutiḥ Where is that Kṛṣṇa whose bodily complexion is like neelamani ujjvala? Neelamani. Where is He? He says, indra-neelamani-dyutiḥ surendra-nīla-dyutiḥ. kva rāsa-rasa tāṇḍavī hi?" Where is that Kṛṣṇa who dances in rasa? kva sakhi jīva-rakṣauṣadhir. O sakhi, That Shyama is medicine for me to keep up my life. My life is now getting out. Having- not having means feelings of separation. Where is that Shyam who is like medicine of my life? Means jīva-rakṣauṣadhir. They will keep up my life. suhṛt-tamaḥ kva bata hanta hā dhig vidhim He is backpack blasphemous, that vidhata, creator, that He has created such thing. Do you understand? Cries, cries, cries. Mahaprabhu cries, cries, cries. And feeling such pangs of separation from Kṛṣṇa.
This is Mahaprabhu's bhajan. Mahaprabhu's bhajan dhara, process of bhajan, always feeling these pangs of separation from Kṛṣṇa, one should chant Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare. That is quoted here. Oh Govinda, feeling your separation, I am considering a moment to be like twelve years or more. Tears are flowing from My eyes like torrents of rain and feeling all vacant in the world in Your absence. All dear devotees of Gauranga, all mahant gurus, you understand? Mahant gurus come. Those who come in this line, they are- they do bhajan in this mood. Separation, mood of separation. Feeling mood of separation. Quoting Isvara Puri. Mahaprabhu's guru.
Devotee: Yugayitam means millennium also.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Prabhupada says yuga, twelve years. Twelve years is one yuga. Do you follow? One moment seems like a yuga, means twelve years or more, he says. Isvarapuri. Now, he also... He has developed 7th mode, as he
yogaḥ sukṣma-yuktyā nirjana-manaḥ dhyānena samabhāvitaḥ svarājyaṃ pratipadya nirbhayo mayi mukta bhavantu dvijāḥ asmakam tu kadamba-kuñja-gauri-prema-maṇḍala indīvaraḥ śrī nīla-śyāmala-dhāma nāma ju sarva-janmāstu lakṣya-avadhi
This is Isvarapuri's statement. That means, those who are dvijas, Brahmanas, let them do Ashtanga Yoga. Let them read Veda. Let them stay in solitary place, secluded place. Let them be engaged in meditation. Let them be engaged in visiting all tirthas. Do you understand? By doing that, let them get liberation. Let them get. But for us, we don't want all these things. Do you follow me? What we want, we want that Shyamsundar. Whose bodily complexion is like blue lotus. Blue lotus. That Shyamsundar in Kunja I want. That is our destination or goal of life. Do you understand? And his name is non-different from Shyamsundar. abhinnatvān nāma-nāminoḥ Do you understand? There's no different between the name of Kṛṣṇa and Kṛṣṇa Himself. And we are the servant of that holy name. Do you understand? namar sevak. We are the servant of that holy name because the chief result of chanting this holy name is the Kṛṣṇa Prema.
Mahaprabhu gives that prema through chanting, which is so... It's like an intoxicant. It is mentioned here, intoxicant. Uh, one who, eats it. Fruit of love of God distributed by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is such a great intoxicant. Anyone who eats it fills his belly, immediately becomes maddened by it. Automatically chants, dances, laughs and enjoys. And Isvarapuri Prabhu says that thing. We are the servants of that holy name. We are... should always be engaged in chanting that holy name and be maddened. If lots of lives of life will go one after another, no loss. You know. janmani janmanīśvare bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukī tvayi We don't want liberation. We want lots and lots and lots of life. Let us have lots and lots and lots of life to come, and let us be maddened with chanting holy name. We want only this thing, nothing else. Do you follow?
So that is our Sadhyo Sadhan. Chanting holy name is means as well as end, and it's Kṛṣṇa Prema. If... We cannot get that Kṛṣṇa, only feel pangs of separation from him. Pangs of separation from him. Be maddened by Kṛṣṇa. That is success of our life. If becoming mad... If someone becomes mad after this, automatically he gives up all of the desires.
na dhanaḿ na janaḿ na sundarīḿ kavitāḿ vā jagad-īśa kāmaye
mama janmani janmanīśvare bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukī tvayi.
Śikṣāṣṭakam (4)
So, there will be no desire for material world, no desire for material followers, no desire for enjoying a beautiful woman, no desire for liberation. Rather, we desire lots and lots and lots of lives. Only to be engaged in chanting His holy name and feeling pangs of separation from Him. Do you understand? This is Kṛṣṇa Virahi. And when they feel such pangs of separation, which is like a fire tapa heat. tava kathāmṛtaṁ tapta-jīvanaṁ do you understand? tava kathāmṛtaṁ tapta-jīvanaṁ that means Do you understand? O Lord Kṛṣṇa Your nectarian kathā is soothing balm to our heart that feels banks of separation from Kṛṣṇa and is, what you say? Ah? And is burning out of that heat produced from the banks of separation. And this, Your kathā mṛtaṁ, Your nectarean kathā is a soothing balm for this heart, afflicted heart. Kṛṣṇa-kathā, Kṛṣṇa-nāma, this is the only medicine for us. Nothing else. We don't want anything else. Do you follow? But in this material world, He wants lots and lots of life, lots and lots of life. Go on like this. Go on like this. Only want this, nothing else.
But here in material world, materially intoxicated persons, these persons, these devotees are intoxicated with Kṛṣṇa, free from all that. But materially intoxicated persons spending day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, become mad of material enjoyment and lust, not love, Kṛṣṇa. And Suryadev, do you follow Suryadev? Sun, is taking away their life span, day after day. They are going closer, closer, closer, nearer, nearer, nearer to death. They cannot understand it, that they are going nearer, nearer, nearer, approaching nearer, nearer, nearer to death. They cannot understand it. They cannot understand how their days, without Kṛṣṇa consciousness, are going away.
But on the other hand, those who are intoxicated with Kṛṣṇa prema, chanting the holy name of Kṛṣṇa, feeling pangs of separation from Kṛṣṇa, the dear devotees of Gauranga Mahāprabhu, the movement after movement, their time, is going, do you understand, away, with crying for Kṛṣṇa only, with crying for Kṛṣṇa, nothing else. and the

Alas, one prahar go, passed away. Prahar means? You know. Three hours. Prahar means three hours. So 24 hours means eight praharas. Hmm. 12 hours means four praharas. One day time, 12 hour, four praharas. They say one prahar now passed away. Alas, second prahar, two praharas passed away. Alas, three praharas passed away. Alas, four praharas, the whole day passed away. What shall I do? na paśyāmi harer mukham still I can see the all beautiful lotus-like face of Lord Hari. What shall I do? Saying this and crying only. Do you follow? This is vipralambhava. Doing such bhajan.
And then Guru of Ishvara Puri, Madhavendra Puri, he, he feels the same mood. Separationist.
ayi dīnadayārdranātha he mathurānātha kadāvalokyase hṛdayaṃ tvadalokakātaraṃ dayita bhrāmyati kiṃ karomyaham
Fast. Yes, Madhavendra Puri pada Said like this, chanted in the line of, they say, succession, disciplic succession. Brahma Madhva. Brahma Madhva Sampradaya. He comes, Madhavendra Puri. Madhavendra Puri's guru is Laxmi Pati, isn't it? After Laxmi Pati, this mood had, had not come. Do you follow? This mood had not come, feeling pangs of separation from Kṛṣṇa. It came from Madhavendra Puri. Hence in this disciplic succession it begins with Madhavendra Puri. So Madhavendra Puri is considered as the root of this tree. Do you follow? This root of this tree. Hmm. The tree, the description of tree is here, isn't it? That the fruit of that tree is prema phala. That first he gave the description of tree, then fruit. You've done that. So he is, Madhavendra Puri is the root of this tree.
ayi dīnadayārdranātha he mathurānātha kadāvalokyase hṛdayaṃ tvadalokakātaraṃ dayita bhrāmyati kiṃ karomyaham
He says, "Oh, Dina Dayardranath." Dina means those who are dina. What do you say? Dina? Very, very low. You understand? Very humble. Lowest of the low. You understand? Dina. And you are their lord. You are lord of the dina, therefore Dina Dayardranath. Your heart bleeds for them, for those dinas. So, Dina Dayardranath. Hey, Mathuranath, oh lord of Mathura. Do you follow? Indicates Kṛṣṇa. Krsna leaves Braja puri when goes to Mathura. Leaves Braja puri, goes to Mathura. Then becomes mathurānātha. This, Madhavendra Puri therefore says mathurānātha. Now you have become mathurānātha. You have left us. We are feeling separation from you. Now you have become mathurānātha. So, he says, "Hey, mathurānātha. Oh, Lord of Mathura." mathurānātha kadāvalokyase. "When shall I have a darshan of you? Not having your darshan now. When shall I have a darshan of you?"
Without having your darshan, hṛdayaṃ tvadalokakātaraṃ dayita bhrāmyati kiṃ karomyaham. Without having your darshan, my heart is agitated. Is very much agitated. Is not calm now. What do you say? Agitation is there, hmm? Like agitation in the sea. Big waves are raised. Similar in my heart, such big waves are raised. My heart is very much agitated. "Hey, dayita." Then he said it, dayita. dayita bhrāmyati kiṃ karomyaham, dayita means, oh my husband. Dear husband. dayita. What shall I do now? Not having your darshan. This feeling of separation. All mahanta gurus, they have felt such thing and they have done bhajan in this mood. This is Mahaprabhu's bhajan dhara.
Then Raghunath Das Goswami's. Raghunath Das Goswami is always engaged in kunja, serving Radha and Krsna. Do you follow? Still, he feels pangs of separation. He says, āśāyāḥ kāntam avalambya jīvāmi sakhy ahaṃ sadā ... mama daiva-niyato yadi syāt, noced api loka-hitaika-kṛt ... yat-kāla-kramāśu-dīptā kiṃ artham
That means he feels, Raghunath Das Goswami feels such pangs of separation he says, "Still, a very, very feeble hope is there." Very feeble hope. Do you follow? Therefore, I have survived. My life is there. One very feeble hope. What is that? I am thinking that the time will come, I must see my beloved. Do you understand? My dearest, my heart that’s Kṛṣṇa. There must be some limit of this time. It's an unlimited time, isn't it? We say ananta-kala. There's no limit to it. But he says, "I, in my consideration, there must be some limit about it." Do you understand? So that feeble hope is there. If that limit is there, then it is good for me. I must wait for that limit.
But generally, it says unlimited time. If there is no limit, if that time will never come, then what shall I do? I cannot keep up my life. So, what shall I do? I should take help of that poison that mercifully creator has created. Kalakutla-visha. Very dreadful poison. The merciful creator has created, so I will take help of that poison and end my life. I cannot survive if there is no limit to that time. Do you follow me, what I say? So, feeling so much separation. Narottam Das Thakur also says. keno vā āchaye prāṇa ki sukha pāiyā narottam dās keno nā gelo mariyā
Isn't it that way? gaurā pahu nā bhajiyā goinu prema-ratana-dhana helāya hārāinu. Isn't it? We are chanting that Narottam das Thakur's very nice song. My Guru Maharaj always chants because he feels such pangs of separation. Isn't it? Very... That this song is very fond of. He is very fond of this song. gaurā pahu nā very so nice, sweet voice he sings, I have not heard. Yeah. So nice song. Narottam Das Thakur sung it. All these great mahanta gurus, they have this feeling, this mood, pang of separation. That mood, they do bhajan. That is Mahaprabhu's teaching.
keno vā āchaye prāṇa ki sukha pāiyā narottam dās keno nā gelo mariyā
Narottam Das Thakur said, "Why shall I survive? For what happiness? For what happiness this life will be there? It is better to die." narottam dās keno nā gelo mariyā It is better to die. He also thinks like that. Raghunath Das Goswami, a similar thought. Narottam Das also. Those who are very dear. Hmm. They think so.
And this, uh, desire for death is the topmost, highest, topmost level of Kṛṣṇa-prem. Do you understand? Topmost level, the desire for death. Daśamī-dasha. 10 conditions are there. Last is mrityu, the desire for death. Do you understand? Because such lovers, do you understand? lover beloved relationship. They're so anxious to render loving service unto their most beloved, Kṛṣṇa. So anxious that they are always crying for it. Even if they cannot get it, they want... They're prepared to end their life. Mrtyu. Do you understand?
And this death is not Yama-danda. It's not the punishment of Yama. Do you understand? It is not Yama-danda. It's not punishment, Yama. Do you understand? Yama comes to school. Yama comes to these material persons. Do you understand? Yama cannot, in svapne, in the dream also cannot approach these persons. So, they are devotees. Svapne apni sukhati. Do you understand? But what is this, the desire for death? This is not Yama-danda. This is not punishment of Yama. Rather, it is a great festival in Gokula.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Gokula mahāmahottava. Great festival in Gokula. You understand? Satya. This is feelings pangs of sepeartion.
And here, Prabhupāda has said also, and we chant that. Ah. Ha, "If one serious and sincerely follows the regulative principle, chants Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, time will come when these symptoms will appear. Tears will fill his eyes. He will be unable to chant distinctly mahāmantra." As Mahāprabhu says, you cannot utter Jagannāth. Ja, Ja, Ja, Ja, Ja, Ja, Ja. Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga, Ga. His voice choked up. That is feeling, you understand? He said, "Distinctly chant mahāmantra. Cannot or unable to chant distinctly mahāmantra, and his heart will throb in ecstasy." Throb mane lobha-bhargadati. Thak, thak, thak, thak, thak, thak, thak, thak. It's throbbing. Thak, thak, thak, thak, thak, thak. As if I prepare sweet rice. Rice, milk, sugar added. Cook, cook, cook, cook. It becomes, gradually thicker, thicker, thicker. Isn't it? Then you find how it thak, thak, thak, thak, thak, thak. Isn't it? When it becomes most thicker, still you have put it in the fire. What do you find? Thak, thak, thak, thak, thak, thak. It is throbbing. The heart is throbbing like that. Thak, thak, thak, thak, thak, thak. It is throbbing. That it says. This next line. "Heart will throb in ecstasy.
Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu says that one should not imitate this, but a devotee should long for the day."kabe ha'be bolo se-dina āmār We are chanting that song, the song of Bhakti Vinod Ṭhākur. Uh, "Day to come when such symptoms of trance will automatically appear in his body. Why are you imitating?" Rascal Long for that day. Chant Pure Name, Rājiv Lochan. Automatically this will come. Day will come when automatically. Not question imitation. Do you follow? Cut off his head. Cut off his head. Put a goat's head. Like Daksha. Daksha. Daksha’s head was cut off, and a goat's head was put up backside, not front side, backside. (laughs) Thank you. Hari, Hari, Hari, Hari, Hari, Hari. Hmm, hmm. Such intoxication. Such intoxicate, cidananda, have this intoxicant.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:Why are you taking marijuana? (laughs) Hmm? Yes?
Devotee: Prabhupāda says in the case one, two, that by understanding Kṛṣṇa and talking about Kṛṣṇa, one becomes very learned.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:Yes.
Devotee: And he, and he says, uh, one, one, one verse here, yasmin vijñāte sarvam eva vijñatam bhavanti
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:Ooh.
Devotee: But it does not mention where this verse comes from. Could you please tell me?
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:What, what, what, what?
Devotee: I'd like to know where this verse coming from.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:Wait, what?
Devotee: Yasmin vijñāte sarvam eva vijñatam bhavanti
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:(laughs) vijñāte yes. Yasmin vijñāte sarvam eva vijñatam bhavanti. Yes. This is, Veda says.
Devotee: Yes, I see.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: I have put it.
Devotee: Uh, where is it come from?
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:In Veda. Veda says this.
Devotee: Rigveda or Yajurveda?
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes, Rigveda.
Devotee: Rigveda.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes. Veda says. I have put it. That was not. Yes.
Devotee: Thank you very much.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes. Veda says. (laughs)
Devotee: Very good.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:(laughs) Govinda he. Haribe. So if you suggest some... Crying for Kṛṣṇa ? Yogeswar Huh?
Devotee: Well...
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Crying for Kṛṣṇa ? Are you crying for Kṛṣṇa ?
Devotee: Crying? Uh... (laughs)
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:(laughs)
Devotee: I tried, but the cry is not coming yet. (laughs). He tries. He tries, but the tears don't come. I try, the, the tears not coming yet.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Hey. Bring chili.
Devotee: But that is-
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: In his eyes. (laughs)
Devotee: But that is artificial.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:(laughs) Do you follow? I could remember when I was student- in, in, uh, this, uh, secondary school. Do you understand? Lower secondary, not higher secondary school. We had a headmaster. He was a Muhammadan. A Muhammadan. Big mustache. Tall fellow. Yes. He's always with a cane. He beats us. Always beats us. If I see him, we run. (laughs) Yes. So big fellow, tall fellow, big mustache. (laughs) Oh, he beats us. Give very severe punishment. You understand? Still, I could remember, that caning is a good result. We studied so much. Beginning, grounding was very strong. Strong ground. Do you understand?
So, we all stay in the hostel. So, he, uh, wakes up all... made us wake up at 4:00. 4:00. And, uh, there was no electricity. We would light castor oil lamp. No kerosene also there. Used to read with castor oil lamp. Then, "Get up! Wash your face! Sit down and read now!" You understand? "Read. Read." So, we all open books and read what we... We have no sleep. Just reading. So, he had his cane. Loitering there in veranda, and sees through the window.
Find somebody is... What he does, do you know? He comes with golmorich. Golmorich you know?
Devotee: Black pepper.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Black pepper.
Devotee: Black pepper. Black pepper.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:Yes. Black pepper. Ah, yes. Crushed it.
Devotee: Add it. Add it.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:Put it in powder, made a powder, and put it in a, uh, small piece of cloth bundle and soak it, and comes and put that water in our eyes.
Devotee: Oh.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: He did it like that. You see? He did like that. (laughs) Then you cry, "Oh!" (laughs)
Devotee: (laughs) But I cry for the top, I look for Kṛṣṇa .
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: If tear is not coming, (laughs) then let tear come in that way. (laughs) For Kṛṣṇa , tear is not coming. For Kṛṣṇa , tear is not coming. (laughs)
Devotee: There was one man who was doing like that, Mahārāj, and broke his leg.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Broke his leg?
Devotee: Yes.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:(laughs)
Devotee: He was... tried to, to squeeze some tears out of his eyes, and he was rolling on the ground, and then he broke his leg.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: How Kṛṣṇa broke his leg? Make him a cripple? Kṛṣṇa made him cripple. (laughs) "Oh, Kṛṣṇa , you made me cripple." (laughs)
Devotee: When he's there, he's the Krupalu Mahāprabhu. But I think now he's krup- uh, crippled mah... Crippled.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Crippled. (laughs)
Devotee: Crippled. He call, he calls himself Krupalu, but he is crippled now, I think.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:(laughs) No question of imitation.
Devotee: No, no.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: No, no. (laughs) Come automatically. That day will come, and long for that day. kabe ha'be bolo se-dina āmār Such nice song, you see? Bhakti Vonod Thakur has written. When that day will come, I feel so, experience, romance, love, forget everything, my existence, all that should just... imitation. Mm-hmm.
Devotee: All right.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Mm-hmm.
Devotee: And in, uh, Bhagavatam, we can read thatescri- uh, description about the demigods. They have, um, a very beautiful bodily fragrance.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes.
Devotee: And, uh, also description of, of Radha and Kṛṣṇa 's qualities.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Oh.
Devotee: But there's n- uh, I don't... I haven't any f- uh, uh, a description of their bodily, uh, fragrance or smell. Do you know anything, uh, about that?
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: What?
Devotee: The fragrance of Radha and Kṛṣṇa. The bodily fragrance.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Bodily fragrance?
Devotee:: Yeah.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:Fragrance?
Devotee: Fragrance. Yeah.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Accha.
Devotee: The... the... the scent.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:Ya. (laughs)
Devotee: Yeah.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:We offer some scent to Kṛṣṇa . (laughs) Automatic. Natural fragrance come out.
Devotee: Yeah.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: No need of such artificial... Artificial scents. Natural fragrance.
Devotee: Yeah.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:Yes.
Devotee: So, any reference to-
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: As from Mahāprabhu's body, fragrance of sandalwood comes out.
Devotee: Sandalwood.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Candanga
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:One of His name is Sandalimangal. Sandalimangal. Isn't it? Mahāprabhu's body was that sandalwood.
Devotee: So, that's the same as Raja Rani?
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Sundarban?
Devotee: And, and what about, what about Kṛṣṇa ? Is the same, sandalwood, or is different?
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Same. Something more than that. You understand? (Indian music plays) Muruganada. Muruganada.
Devotee: Campa.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Muruganada.
Devotee: Cow, cow...
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Muruganada is very scented thing. That is available at the navel of...a deer, a type of deer.
Devotee: Musk.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Musk.
Devotee: Musk.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes, that is known as musk. That scent comes out. And Radha Rani also puts on kumkum. That is very scented. Do you understand? Kumkum. And that gaurachana is all scented, some scented. Let's say cosmetic? Or what is that?
Devotee: Hmm. Aromatic.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Aromatic. Aromatic articles. (Indian music plays) Muruganada, kasturi, kasturi, gaurachana, uh, musk, uh, kumkum. Radha Rani puts on all these scents. And scent of lotus is there, also there.
Devotee: Blue lotus.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Blue lotus.
Devotee: But the nature of fragrance is sandalwood. The nature of fragrance.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: All this, all mixture of all this fragrance. Mixture of all this fragrance. Do you understand? And this all transcendental. It is nothing material. All these things, these are transcendental things. You understand? And Kṛṣṇa becomes mad after it. Radha Rani, Radha Prem. You understand? Kṛṣṇa becomes mad at Radha Prem. Radha Kṛṣṇa ... radha prema guru ami hoi, shishya nata.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Shraddha ami nana nritya nachaye udbhata. It's Kṛṣṇa 's own statement. Kaviraj goswami has written it. Radha Rani is my guru in these loving affairs. Prema guru. I am her disciple. As Guru makes the disciple dance according to his tune, similarly, Radha Rani makes me dance, agreeing to her tune, to dancing. You understand? I am the disciple. So, Kṛṣṇa becomes mad after it. After Radha Rani. You understand?
Sometimes says... Vishwanath Chakravarti Thakura has written, Kṛṣṇa becomes so much mad, he spends the whole night behind the badari tree in the courtyard of Radha Rani.
Devotee: Where?
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Berry tree, in the courtyard of Radha Rani. He spends the whole night behind that tree. And because he is afraid of her mother-in-law...
Devotee: Mother-in-law.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:... mother-in-law, Jatila, Kutila.
Devotee: Jatila, Kutila.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: His sister-in-law. Do you understand? "This wicked boy's," Kṛṣṇa 's nonsense. They always say like that. So he hides himself behind that berry tree. Spends the whole night, just to have a glimpse of Radha Rani. Radha Rani may come out so I will have a glimpse.
Devotee: (laughs)
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī:(laughs) So mad. You understand? Sometimes puts on saris. Kṛṣṇa puts on saris, disguises himself as the wife of a washer man, Rajakinhi, and goes to Radha Rani. "Radha Rani, please give me your saris. I will wash it very nicely, very clean. Like sun sunshine, sun light." Do you understand? "Sparkling, I will bring it to you." Just to get her thoughts.
Sometimes goes in disguise as the wife of, uh, a barber, Napituni. Kṛṣṇa goes, uh, wife of a barber, Napituni. Napituni takes some alta, a red substance, liquid, scented also. Uh, here it is here in India. I don't know with, with, not in West, I think.
Devotee: No, I have not seen that use.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: No, it is here, custom. The barber and barb- wife of barber come. Barber shaves the man, the mustache and beard. That's this. And wife of barber serves the woman. You understand? She puts that red substance here. It's the alta.
Devotee: Ah.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: You understand? Alta.
Devotee: Decorating...
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Decorating, puts, you understand? No, he has feet. You, you might see...You will see some women come with putting that red stuff.
Devotee: What is the significance of the putting of this red stuff?
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: It's, uh, it looks red like a red lotus.
Devotee: Red lotus?
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes. The lotus feet like this. You understand? They put on. And this is all auspicious.
Devotee: Oh, okay.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: On some auspicious days, festive days, generally they do it.
Devotee: Oh.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Then so they come, that wife of barber comes. He, he has a, she has a like this razor-like thing, some long thing, this, uh, sharpened edge, not so sharp. He first...
Devotee: Scraper. He scrapes.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Scrapes, uh, scraper. Scraps the nasty things from here, this, this, this whole. Then puts on them red stuff here, alta. Yes. It's custom here in India.
Devotee: It's good for your feet.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Do you understand? And the, and also it's custom also every time a marriage also. When the...
Devotee: Bride.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Mm. Bride and bridegroom, both of them put on. Yes, both of them put on.
Devotee: Bride and bridegroom?
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes, bride and bridegroom. Because it is auspicious ceremony. In all auspicious ceremonies, it is custom. So, Kṛṣṇa sometimes goes in that, in disguise as the wife of barber, and calls, "Radha Rani, I have got very nice alta for you. Please come show your feet I will put on that." That's it. Such a mad fellow. Do you understand?
And also sometimes Kṛṣṇa goes to Yamuna to take bath. At the same time, Radha Rani is taking bath. Radha Rani takes bath upstream and Kṛṣṇa takes bath downstream. Because that water, it will float. That kumkum will float, the flowers she has put on.
Devotee: Yes.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: What you say? Bed?
Devotee: Flat.
Devotee: Braid.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Braid, uh, they will come float. Then that will touch my body. He is a mad fellow. (laughs) Become so mad. You understand? Yotishwara becomes so mad, ah, become mad for Kṛṣṇa . (laughs)
Devotee: By your grace, possibly one day.
Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Haribol.
Devotee: Yeah, Hare Kṛṣṇa.
