It is the causeless mercy of our most beloved, worshipable Gurudeva Śrī Śrīmad A. C. Bhaktivedānta Swāmī Prabhupādajī Mahārāja, a dear devotee of Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu, and the mercy of Śrī Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu, akrodha paramānanda Nityānanda Rāya, the mercy of Śrī Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, who is wonderfully merciful, wonderfully magnanimous and wonderfully munificent, the mercy of Śrī Śrī Kṛṣṇa-Balarāma, the mercy of Śri Śri Jagannātha-Baladeva-Subhadrā Jiū, the mercy of Śrī Śrī Rādhā-Gopīnātha, we performed saṅkīrtana padayātrā, especially [in] the western region of Odisha. Mainly that region constitutes hills, jungles; hill-tribe, jungle-tribe is there mostly. Still, we passed through it, chanting loudly:

Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare

Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare

…with Prabhupāda and with Gaura-Nitāi. They are very, very merciful. By Their mercy, even the hill-tribe people, jungle-people, they also heard nāma-saṅkīrtana; they also heard kṛṣṇa-kathā, gaurā-kathā. I think, by the mercy of Prabhupāda and Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu, some of them developed some attraction for it. Yes. Mahāprabhu is so merciful that while He was passing through Jhārikhaṇḍa jungle, He made the jungle animals: tigers, lions, dears, snakes, birds, beasts — dance. When He chanted ‘Hare Kṛṣṇa’ and danced, they all danced. He can do it. He can do it because He is Bhagavān; His mercy is so powerful. Do you understand? If you can get His mercy and be empowered, then you can distribute His mercy. We have come to distribute His mercy.

Prabhupāda once said; one person asked Prabhupāda, “Why don’t you show some miracle? Many yogīs show some miracle; many people, thousands are attracted.”

“What miracle you want to see? You see, the jungle animals: the beasts, dogs and hogs are dancing. White elephants[foreigners] are dancing. White elephants, they are dogs or hogs; leading the life of dogs and hogs — kukkura śūkara prāya jīvana bitāye. Are they leading a human life? They live a life of dogs and hogs. They are jungle animals, [? 3:58]. Now they are chanting and dancing. The snake raises the hood and dances when the snake charmer sings kṛṣṇa-līlā. [Makes sound]. The snakes are dancing. What more miracle you want to see? This is the miracle, yes, that the jungle animals are dancing.” [Laughs].

Yes. Prabhupāda did it because he is a pure devotee of Mahāprabhu. So that is His mercy. Therefore, we perform saṅkīrtana and this is the real centennial celebration, if you can make the jungle animals dance. Yes. Nowadays, this paśu-sabhyatā, this animal civilisation is spreading. Yes. Those who are running behind this eating, sleeping, defending and mating, i.e., cultivating paśu-dharma, they are like animals. Two-legged animals; without horns, without a tail. Yes. They don’t know what is human life, how to lead a human life; what is the purpose of human birth. They don’t know it. The animals know the body and bodily demands: eating, sleeping, defending and mating. If you do the same thing, then you are an animal; two-legged animal, without horns, without a tail.

But the human birth is not meant for that. The human birth is a rarely achieved birth because the opportunity has been given to you in this birth to understand Kṛṣṇa, to understand your eternal, loving relationship with Kṛṣṇa; how you will become servant of Kṛṣṇa — jīvera svarūpa haye kṛṣṇera nitya dāsa; and see everything in relation to Kṛṣṇa; in other words, to develop complete Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Therefore, he formed this society – Society for Krishna Consciousness. It’s very significant; why? Because that is the purpose of the rarely achieved human birth: to develop complete Kṛṣṇa consciousness. What is complete Kṛṣṇa consciousness?

yo māṁ paśyati sarvatra
sarvaṁ ca mayi paśyati
tasyāhaṁ na praṇaśyāmi
sa ca me na praṇaśyati

This is complete Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Kṛṣṇa says in Bhagavad-gītā (6.30), “One who sees me everywhere and sees everything in relation to Me…” ‘Everything in Me’ means everything in relation to Kṛṣṇa. To see Kṛṣṇa and to see the relationship with Kṛṣṇa, kṛṣṇa-sambandha, that is complete Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Everything belongs to Kṛṣṇa. Yes. Everything belongs to Kṛṣṇa; it’s Kṛṣṇa’s property. Kṛṣṇa is the sole proprietor. One who has property, He is the proprietor. You have no property, still you say, “Yes, I am the proprietor. It’s my property.” What is this? A criminal activity. Isn’t it? A great criminal. What is Kṛṣṇa’s property, you are saying, “It’s my property. I am the enjoyer; I’ll enjoy.” This is criminal mentality. Isn’t it?

But the human life is not meant for this. The rarely achieved human birth is meant to understand Kṛṣṇa, see Kṛṣṇa, develop complete Kṛṣṇa consciousness and see everything [as] related to Kṛṣṇa. All, whatever you see and find, they are all paraphernalia for Kṛṣṇa’s enjoyment. It is to be utilised for Kṛṣṇa’s service to give Him enjoyment and pleasure. That is complete Kṛṣṇa consciousness. If you develop that consciousness, then you can see the all-beautiful. Kṛṣṇa is all-beautiful, kandarpa-koṭi-kamanīya-viśeṣa-śobhaṁ (Bs. 5.30) — whose beauty far excels that of crores of Cupids. Then you can see the all-beautiful.

Otherwise [in] the material world, illusionary world, if you cannot see Kṛṣṇa and see only māyā, what beauty can you see? Māyā is an ugly witch; is there any beauty the ugly witch has? But you are attracted towards that ugly witch; you are not attracted… true attraction or real attraction to the all-attractive Kṛṣṇa. So, then how have you developed Kṛṣṇa consciousness? So how can you become a member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness? True member. True member, not a pretender. Don’t become a pretender; become a true member, a bonafide member, a bonafide member of the Society for Krishna Consciousness. Develop complete Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Yes. Then you can see kṛṣṇa-sambandha and Kṛṣṇa and utilise everything for Kṛṣṇa’s pleasure. Then you will get pleasure; otherwise you cannot get pleasure.

Baddha-jīva, the conditioned soul, forgotten Kṛṣṇa from time immemorial and developed attraction towards māyā, under the grip of māyā, ignorance; forgotten his own svarūpa, forgotten Kṛṣṇa; wandering here in this material world in lakhs of species, revolving in this cycle of birth and death; sometimes higher planetary systems, sometimes intermediary, lower planetary or naraka; higher species, lower species. In this way, going up and down; suffering, suffering, suffering. Yes. Birth, death, old age and disease — duḥkha. But Kṛṣṇa is so merciful, suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānāṁ (Bg. 5.29). Suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānāṁ; He says, “I am the only well-wishing friend of all living entities. The living entities have forgotten Me, revolving in this cycle of birth and death in this material world and has been suffering and suffering.”

So out of mercy, He descends here in this material world, prapañca. Five things are here in prapañca: jīvātmā, paramātmā, prakṛti, kāla and karma. Prapañca. Prapañce paḍiya, jīvas have been suffering; but He is such merciful Lord, though we have forgotten, but He has not forgotten. He is always with you. He likes you so much because you are His children.

sarva-yoniṣu kaunteya
mūrtayaḥ sambhavanti yāḥ
tāsāṁ brahma mahad yonir
ahaṁ bīja-pradaḥ pitā

(Bhagavad-gītā 14.4)

He says, “I am the seed-giving father.” He is the Supreme Father; you are His children. The father has natural love and affection for His children, though the children may become wavered, still the father has affection. He wants that my children are nice. Baddha-jīva, the conditioned soul has no adhikāra at all to see Kṛṣṇa, to understand Kṛṣṇa, to see His līlā. No adhikāra at all. No. But Kṛṣṇa is so merciful, He descends here. He descends here and manifests His very beautiful, transcendental līlās here. “See Me, see My līlās. These līlās are recorded in śāstra, Vedic literature; especially Bhāgavata. Hear My kathā.” How sweet, nectarean, all-beautiful. Kṛṣṇa is beautiful, sweet. His kathā is very beautiful, sweet; hear it. Bhāgavata is not different from Kṛṣṇa.

bhāgavata kṛṣṇera śrīaṅga tahāte kahena yad gopya kṛṣṇa raṅga

This Bhāgavata is the body of Kṛṣṇa. Do you understand? All the līlās have been described there in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Hear Bhāgavata from a devotee-bhāgavata, who is personified Bhāgavata, embodiment of Bhāgavata. Thereby, Kṛṣṇa gives you the teaching, teaches you that [one] who is fortunate, bhāgyavāna, he can see Kṛṣṇa, he can understand Kṛṣṇa. Thereby, you will develop attraction towards Kṛṣṇa. That Kṛṣṇa came as Mahāprabhu; He came as Mahāprabhu. What Kṛṣṇa says:

sarva-dharmān parityajya
mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja

(Bhagavad-gītā 18.66)

man-manā bhava mad-bhakto
mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru

(Bhagavad-gītā 18.65)

“Abandoning all varieties of dharma, just surrender unto Me. Always think of Me, keep Me in your mind; then you can come to Me.” Not an easy thing; not an easy thing. It is very easy to say. All say; very easy to say but very difficult to understand it. What is needed for it? Are you surrendered to Kṛṣṇa? Have you become kṛṣṇa-dāsa? “Mad-bhaktaḥ — become My devotee, become My dāsa. Always think of Me, keep Me in your mind. Become My devotee, become My dāsa, servant; serve Me.” Is it easy? What is bhakti, it is not so easy. Out of thousands, thousands of human beings, one may aspire for doing sādhanā. Isn’t it? And someone may achieve some perfection. So, out of that hundreds, hundreds, thousands, one may know Me in tattva. It’s so rare thing; not an easy thing.

manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu
kaścid yatati siddhaye
yatatām api siddhānāṁ
kaścin māṁ vetti tattvataḥ

(Bhagavad-gītā 7.3)

And again, kali-yuga; people of kali-yugaKali means yuga, age of sinful activities. Four pillars of sinful activities: fish-eating, meat-eating, intoxication, illicit sex and gambling; cheating, dyūta-krīḍā. Isn’t it? These are all sinful activities. Consciousness is very, very degraded consciousness, polluted consciousness.

“How can they understand, realise that? They cannot understand. I have to go again.” So, He came again in the form of Mahāprabhu.

āpani karimu bhakta-bhāva aṅgīkāre
āpani ācari’ bhakti śikhāimu sabāre

(Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā 3.20)

“I will go as a devotee, not as [Bhagavān]. Though Bhagavān, [I’ll] come as a devotee. Assuming the sentiments of a devotee, practising devotion in My life, I will teach devotion.” As a teacher He came, as a devotee He came. Bhakta-rūpa, in the form of a bhakta. Channa-avatāra, disguised incarnation; as a devotee. That mentality predominated. Kṛṣṇa came as a devotee of Kṛṣṇa and Kṛṣṇa cried for Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa crying for Kṛṣṇa is Mahāprabhu. To give that bhakti; that is bhakti. Do you understand? And what is needed? Prayojana-tattva, sādhya-tattvaPrema, prīti. Prema, love. Pure love; it’s not lust. It’s love. Love is not here in the material world; the perverted reflection of love, lust, is here. There’s no love here. Love is there, in the kingdom of God. Prema-puruṣottama, Mahāprabhu is Prema-puruṣottama.

namo mahā-vadānyāya
kṛṣṇa-prema-pradāya te
kṛṣṇāya kṛṣṇa-caitanya-
nāmne gaura-tviṣe namaḥ

(Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.53)

Rūpa Gosvāmī gives this praṇāma-mantra for us for Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu. He is the giver of kṛṣṇa-prema. Mahā-vadānya — the most munificent incarnation, He gives kṛṣṇa-prema. Kṛṣṇa never gives, but in the incarnation of Mahāprabhu He gives freely. Do you understand? Because without prema, love, there is no question of surrender, no question of becoming dāsa of Kṛṣṇa.

kṛṣṇa-premera ei eka apūrva prabhāva
guru-sama-laghuke karāya dāsya-bhāva

(Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā 6.53)

This is the wonderful effect of kṛṣṇa-prema, it makes everybody dāsa. [One] who is superior to Kṛṣṇa — Nanda Mahārāja, Yaśodā-mātā — they say we are dāsa of Kṛṣṇa. [One] who is equal to Kṛṣṇa — cowherd boys — they say we are dāsa. Those who are inferior to Kṛṣṇa, His servants — they’re dāsa. Everybody becomes dāsa. Without kṛṣṇa-prema, nobody can become dāsa. Nobody can become dāsa; he will become a pretender only. “Yes, I am kṛṣṇa-dāsa.” Only a pretender, not a true dāsa. Isn’t it? Are you not pretending? Speak the truth. Yes, great pretenders. Yes. Not a true dāsa. Without love, there is no question of becoming dāsa at all.

You have to render loving service, bābā, it is not ordinary service. All are servants; you are serving māyā, some are serving their bosses. One boss is there, who has given you job, “I must serve.” Serving out of fear and always looking how to cheat. When the boss is away, not do the job and smoke cigarette, sleep, drink liquor; become Indra. [Laughter]. Cheating propensity baddha-jīva [has]. It’s not like that service to Kṛṣṇa; it’s loving service. Without love, you cannot serve Kṛṣṇa and Kṛṣṇa will never accept your service. That cheating service He will never accept. He will never accept cheating service, bābā. “No, he is cheating Me. No love; how can I accept that?”

Duryodhana invited Kṛṣṇa but Duryodhana had no love for Kṛṣṇa. Only social friendship; Duryodhana’s daughter and Kṛṣṇa’s son were married. When Kṛṣṇa went to Hastināpura as a messenger from Pāṅdavas… sometimes He became messenger for His devotees, dūta. Duryodhana invited Him, cooked varieties of food for Him and invited Him; come and eat. But Kṛṣṇa didn’t go there; He didn’t eat. Why? He offered such service but Kṛṣṇa didn’t accept. Uninvited He went to Vidura’s house. Vidura was a premī-bhakta, a very dear devotee. He had love for Kṛṣṇa. He was a poor man. He[Duryodhana] prepared so many nice varieties of foodstuffs; so many, hundred cooks were engaged and vast amount of very nice, palatable dishes were cooked, but Kṛṣṇa didn’t go there. He didn’t eat. Uninvited He went to Vidura’s house, very poor, [who] offered very simple food, some dry śāka. No pleasure here, [then] why did He eat? Bhāva vinodiyā hari bhāva. He only accepts your loving mood. Yes, loving, devotional mood; what love you have.

patraṁ puṣpaṁ phalaṁ toyaṁ
yo me bhaktyā prayacchati
tad ahaṁ bhakty-upahṛtam
aśnāmi prayatātmanaḥ

(Bhagavad-gītā 9.26)

He says: with love and devotion [if] you give Me one leaf, one flower, one fruit or some water, it gives much pleasure and that is great for Kṛṣṇa. Yes. A simple thing but very great; He accepts it. Sudāmā brāhmaṇa, a poor man. Isn’t it? He had nothing. Isn’t it? He went to see his friend in Dvārakā when his wife persisted him, “Go! Go! Go! Go! Kṛṣṇa is your friend. He is the king of Dvārakā now. We have been suffering out of poverty. Go and get some money from Him.” But Sudāmā knows, nothing to ask from Kṛṣṇa.

na dhanaṁ na janaṁ na sundarīṁ
kavitāṁ vā jagad-īśa kāmaye
mama janmani janmanīśvare
bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukī tvayi

(Śrī Śikṣāṣṭaka: Text 4)

Mahāprabhu has taught us, “O Jagaḍīśa, O the Lord of the universe! I am not asking You for material wealth, I am not asking for material followers, I am not asking for beautiful woman to enjoy. I am not asking. I am not asking for mukti; life after life please give me unalloyed devotion only.” This is to be asked for only. Bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukī tvayi — this is to be asked for. Sudāmā knew it well.

“Alright, I will meet my friend after a long interval. Let me go. So how can I go there empty-handed? I must take something for Him.” Because it is a question of love. Yes.

dadāti pratigṛhṇāti
guhyam ākhyāti pṛcchati
bhuṅkte bhojayate caiva
ṣaḍ-vidhaṁ prīti-lakṣaṇam

(Śrī Upadeśāmṛta: Text 4)

Six types of loving symptoms. Out of love, give something. Then out of love, accept something. Dadāti pratigṛhṇāti, guhyam ākhyāti pṛcchati. [Something] what is very confidential you cannot ask, tell anybody; open your heart there, before your loving friend, most intimate, loving friend. Yes, inquire it there. Bhuṅkte, feeding. This is a question of love; out of love. Whatever he gives, alright, you accept. This are loving transactions.

“So how can I go empty-handed? I must take something for my friend.” He had nothing, so his wife went to a neighbour’s house and got some very, very old chipped rice. Very old; not palatable, bad odour coming. His wife brought and he put it; he had a tattered cloth, made a bundle. Sudāmā went to Dvārakā [and] saw, “Oh, such opulence!” Kṛṣṇa had such opulence! Because He is Bhagavān. Who is Bhagavān? He [who] is completely or unlimitedly filled with six types of aiśvarya, opulence, He is Bhagavān. Bhaga means opulence. What are the six types of opulence?

aiśvaryasya samagrasya
vīryasya yaśasaḥ śriyaḥ
jñāna-vairāgyayoś caiva
ṣaṇṇaṁ bhaga itīṅganā

(Viṣṇu Purāṇa 6.5.47)

All wealth — aiśvarya, all knowledge — jñāna, all fame — yaśa, all strength — vīrya, all beauty — śrī, all renunciation — vairagya. [Who’s] completely, unlimitedly full, He is Bhagavān. How powerful, how strong is Kṛṣṇa? I was saying that thing, He is so merciful that He descends here, manifests His līlās, comes in His svarūpa. Five thousand years ago, He came as the son of Nanda Mahārāja-Yaśodā mātā and manifested His vraja-līlā here. The conditioned soul has no right to see it, know it but He is so kind, merciful He manifested it for us. He has so [much] love for us. He is thinking of us so much but we are not thinking; not thinking even. He is such an intimate dear, loving father. Do you understand? Friend; everything. Do you follow me?

But that Putanā, the sister of Bakāsura, came to kill baby Kṛṣṇa. Smeared very dreadful poison on her breast; the motive: I will allow baby Kṛṣṇa to suck my breast. Thereby, He will die; I will kill Him. With that motive she came. She assumed a very beautiful, angelic feature and entered into the inner apartments of Nanda Mahārāja where baby Kṛṣṇa was sleeping. Do you understand? [At] that time, Kṛṣṇa was only six days old. Six days. Do you understand? Six days old. Six days old baby. Allowed to suck… Kṛṣṇa knows; He is the all-knowing Person, but allowed her to make Him suck her breast; that means doing mother’s work. Kṛṣṇa sucks Mother Yaśodā’s breast — yaśodā stanandhaya — never sucks anybody’s breast. But Putanā gave that work; so Kṛṣṇa accepted the good work. Yes. She was doing mother’s work. Though Kṛṣṇa [was] six days old, sucking her breast, sucked her life-air. The demoness died. Do you know [what] great body she had? Her body was six kosas long; six kosa means twelve miles long. Such body; six kosa means twelve miles long body. A great demoness and a six days old child, Kṛṣṇa. He proved He is Bhagavān. He is completely full of all strength. Yes. Do you understand? That is bhagavattā, His bhagavattā. Understand? He manifested at His very birth.

When He was seven years old and stopped the worship of Indra, Indra became very angry. “Oh, a boy stopped my worship and all these cowherd boys accepted it!” He became angry and he showered; called all his four clouds: āvarta, saṃvartaka, droṇa and puṣkara. “Go! Inundate the whole Vrajabhūmi. Thunderbolts, lightning. The whole Vrajabhūmi, inundate it.” All the vrajavāsīs were under the protection of Kṛṣṇa. And Kṛṣṇa did what? He just uplifted the Govardhana hill, you see. A seven years old boy lifted the Govardhana hill. The expansion of Govardhana hill is sāta kosa, seven kosa. Fourteen miles spread is Govardhana hill. A seven years boy lifted like a mushroom and carried it on the little finger of His left hand continuously for seven days and protected the vrajavāsīs from the wrath of Indra. That is His bhagavattā. How strong He is! He is Bhagavān. Who can understand it? Not easy to understand; not easy.

Therefore, that Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa came as Mahāprabhu to teach us and to give that love. To give that love. Because it is the question of love. Preme tāṅre bhaji

‘preme’ kṛṣṇa vaśa haya, preme tāṅre bhaji

(Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 20.136 [rephrased])

It is only by love Kṛṣṇa becomes submitted and His bhajana should be done with love. Then you will get Kṛṣṇa; Kṛṣṇa will appear before you.

Kali-yuga people cannot anything. They cannot do any sādhanā. I will go and give them the highest thing, that is the love I have not given.”

kali-kāle nāma-rūpe kṛṣṇa-avatāra
nāma haite haya sarva-jagat-nistāra

(Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā 17.22)

nāma vinu kali-kāle nāhi āra dharma
sarva-mantra-sāra nāma, ei śāstra-marma

(Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā 7.74)

tāra madhye sarva-śreṣṭha nāma-saṅkīrtana
niraparādhe nāma laile pāya prema-dhana

(Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā 4.71)

In Kali-yuga there is no incarnation; there is name incarnation. Kṛṣṇa has incarnated Himself in the form of His holy name. If you can spread the holy name, the whole world will be delivered. This is the verdict of all veda-śāstra, śāstra-marma. Yes. This is not a concocted story. In śāstra; śāstric evidence. Nāma-saṅkīrtana, out of this[navadhā-bhakti], is sarva-śreṣṭha. Tāra madhye sarva-śreṣṭha nāma-saṅkīrtana.

kali-yuge ‘dharma’ haya ‘hari-saṅkīrtana’

etad arthe avarīrṇa śrī-śacī-nandana

(Śrī Caitanya-bhāgavata, Ādi-khaṇḍa 2.22)

This is the kali-yuga ‘dharma’, hari-saṅkīrtana; therefore Śacī-nandana Gaurahari came and chanted:

Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare

Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare

Surrounded with His associates, He danced, cried for Kṛṣṇa. He cried for Kṛṣṇa. Yes. Because He is giving you the real wealth. Yes. Do you understand? The real wealth. You are attracted to the material wealth and collecting all this material wealth. Day and night toiling hard like an ass for the collection of material wealth which is subject to destruction, yes, and that will put you in all dangerous situations. Isn’t it? All dangerous situations, if you are carrying money with you. Say, some thousands of dollars you are carrying with you and travelling, you will definitely face danger. Isn’t it? The ḍakaita will come, the thieves will come; murder you and take away. Isn’t it? Definitely. Such danger. It’s dangerous; it will put you in danger. Isn’t it?

That story is there. Sanātana Gosvāmī when left everything, giving bribe to get out from the prisonhouse, then he put on a beard, became like a dāraveśa and going to Vṛndāvana, you see, to meet Mahāprabhu. Do you follow? So with him, one servant was there. Do you follow? He had some gold coins; gold coins he had taken. Moving, moving; he was moving through the jungle, jungle way. Our padayātrā was moving through the jungle, hilly tracts of Orissa. Very dangerous jungles, dense jungle. Still we were chanting there fearlessly and moving. [Laughs]. Allowing all jungle animals to hear this sweet name of Kṛṣṇa and let them dance. Do you follow? So on the way, at night, he had to rest in a motel, a jungle motel. One person had a motel [there]; and that person had an astrologer with him. He can tell, this person coming, what amount of money he has. Then he can rob it; kill him and take it.

The astrologer said, “Yes, this person who came, he has some gold coins.” So he planned how to kill him at the night-time and take it. So he treated nicely; prepared nice food, fed him. “Alright, you are very tired, hungry. Take it.”; prepared nice bed, “Take rest.”

Sanātana Gosvāmī [thought], “Why is this person taking such interest in me; feeding me with nice food, giving me nice bed to sit, sleep? No, he has some motive.” He was intelligent. Yes. Pure intelligence comes from Kṛṣṇa, bābā. One who has gotten Kṛṣṇa, he is intelligent. Yei jana bhaje kṛṣṇa sei baḍa catura — he is catura, he is intelligent, one who does kṛṣṇa-bhajana. Yes. Because pure… dadāmi buddhi-yogaṁ (Bg. 10.10) — Kṛṣṇa says, “I give buddhi-yoga.” Pure intelligence comes from Him. Kṛṣṇa is telling him as Paramātmā there. But in the hilly tract of land, dangerous, he needs help to cross that tract of land. So, he was requesting that motel-owner, “Please, give me some men. Help me how I can cross this dangerous hilly tract, jungle area.”

He said, “Alright. I will give you all assistance. You take food, take rest. Early in the morning, I will do that.”

“Why he is taking so much care?” Then asked his servant, “Have you some money with you?”

“Oh, yes! I have some gold coins.”

“Why did you bring such dangerous thing with you! Put us in danger.” He understood, “Give me, give me! Give me, give me!”

So, he gave everything, only kept one. Then he gave all gold coins to that motel-wālā. “Alright, take this.”

Motel-wālā expressed, “I have one astrologer who knows [that] person who comes, whether he has money or not; what amount of money. He tells me. So I know it. I would have murdered you this night, but you gave this.” [Laughs]. You see. So fearful; puts in danger. You don’t know what is the real wealth, bābā!

harināma vinā jīvera anya dhana nāi-re

harināme śuddha ha’la jagāi-mādhāi re

(Hari Bolo Hari Bolo Hari Bolo Bhāi Re [Śrī Nāma Kīrtana Song 3]: Text 2, Gītāvalī)

Hari-nāma is the real wealth, bābā! Invaluable wealth; you cannot evaluate what wealth[value] it has. Bhakti-dhana. Bhakti is dhana. Do you understand? Bhakti is dhana. The real wealth is bhakti.

bhakti-yoga, bhakti-yoga, bhakti-yoga-dhana

‘bhakti’ ei-kṛṣṇa-nāma-smaraṇa-krandana

(Śrī Caitanya Bhāgavata, Madhya-khaṇḍa 24.72)

Yes, bhakti-yoga is dhana, invaluable wealth. Vṛndāvana Dāsa Ṭhākura says in Caitanya Bhāgavata, bhakti-yoga, bhakti-yoga, bhakti-yoga-dhana. This is dhana. What is that? ‘Bhakti’ ei-kṛṣṇa-nāma-smaraṇa-krandana — this is to utter and think of the sweet name of Kṛṣṇa and shed tears. That is dhanakṛṣṇa-nāma-smaraṇa-krandana. Mahāprabhu was practically doing. ‘Hari hari’ balite nayane ba’be nīra (Gaurāṅga Balite Habe [Lālasāmayī Prārthanā Song 1]: Text 1, Prārthanā) — uttering the name of Hari, He was shedding tears; always crying for Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa crying for Kṛṣṇa is Mahāprabhu. He is giving you dhana.

This is the real dhana. Do you understand, Maheśa Paṇḍita? What dhana are you toiling hard to collect, bābā? No thief, ḍakaita will take away; no danger is there. Do you understand? [Laughs]. And this dhana will take you to Vaikuṇṭha-jagata, the Lord’s kingdom. In that way, what dhana will you take? Will you take this material wealth? All will stay here; nothing will go with you. Do you follow me? This is the dhana He is giving you. Take this dhana; take this invaluable wealth! Do you follow me? Real dhana, it’s the real dhana.

śata-bhāra suvarṇa-go koṭi-kanyā-dāna

tathāpi na haye kṛṣṇa-nāmera samāna

Nothing is equal to kṛṣṇa-nāma. Do you understand? Śata-bhāra suvarṇa-go koṭi-kanyā-dāna — you may give hundred cartloads of gold. Hundreds of cartloads of gold you may give or you may possess, it is not equal to the name of Kṛṣṇa. Koṭi-kanyā-dāna — you may be a charitable person, may give in charity hundred cartload of gold, but it is not equal to kṛṣṇa-nāma. Who is giving kṛṣṇa-nāma, what wealth he is giving; tell! [Laughter]. What wealth he is giving you; what dhana he is giving to you, bābā! You cannot understand? You cannot understand what wealth he is giving. Ajña, mūrkha! You are a mahāmūrkha; don’t understand what is this wealth. You cannot understand, “Oh, I have no wealth!” [Laughs]. Just [?42:24]. No value! You are a mūrkha! Mūrkha, mahāmūrkha! Mahāmūrkha! [Laughs]. Isn’t it? Yes. What dhana he is giving me? Kṛṣṇa-nāma

śata-bhāra suvarṇa-go koṭi-kanyā-dāna

tathāpi na haye kṛṣṇa-nāmera samāna

You may give hundreds of cartloads of gold in charity. Or, like Bali Mahārāja; he was very proud of giving charity. Ati dāne balir baddha. Do you understand? Vāmanadeva bound him up. Vāmanadeva begged: “Give Me three paces”, showing tiny, tiny feet, “Just give Me three paces.”

Are bābā, you are a brahmacārī, celibate[?] brahmacārī! You brāhmaṇa-brahmacārī, beggar, you have come to beg something. Isn’t it?”

“Oh yes! I want three paces of this land in my tiny feet.”

“Oh, what will you do? Ask for something [big]. Asking from me, go to others’ door, that cannot be! Asking from Bali, then you go to others’ door to beg something. No! I will give you everything; whatever you ask. My whole wealth I can give. And you are a brahmacārī; do you want to marry?”

[Laughter]. Yes, he wants to marry. [Pointing out to a devotee]. Yes, he wants to marry, this brahmacārī.

“I will crores of very beautiful, young brāhmaṇa girls in charity. Take it! How many girls will you marry? Crores — koṭi-kanyā — crores of young brāhmaṇa girls I will give in charity. Alright, you marry.”

śata-bhāra suvarṇa-go koṭi-kanyā-dāna

tathāpi na haye kṛṣṇa-nāmera samāna

But the name of Kṛṣṇa has such value, it cannot be equal to this. Do you understand? Once Satyabhāmā-devī, one of the wives of Kṛṣṇa in Dvārakā, performed a vrata, vow. Nārada Muni came and said, “I will tell you to perform a vrata, vow; thereby Kṛṣṇa will only love you. Yes, you will be much more liked and loved by Kṛṣṇa.”

She said, “Alright, please instruct; I will do it.”

Nārada Muni instructed, “Alright, this, this; do this and that.” She did it, then Kṛṣṇa will like her the most. Then Nārada Muni said, “Alright, but you have to give me dakṣiṇā.” Do you understand the meaning of dakṣiṇā? No? What is that, tell me?

Don’t you know dakṣiṇā? Then what are you doing? [Laughter].

“I am such and such, I am sādhu, brāhmaṇa and you should give dakṣiṇā.”

“Yes! I will give whatever you like.”

“You must give to me the most beloved thing what you have. Then this vrata will achieve success, otherwise there will be no fruit to it if I will be dissatisfied. The most beloved; what is your most beloved, you give me.”

“Who is the most beloved? Kṛṣṇa is my most beloved. Alright, take Kṛṣṇa.”

So, Satyabhāmā-devī handed over Kṛṣṇa to him. Nārada Muni took Kṛṣṇa and went away. All other wives, thousands of wives: Rukmiṇī, Jāmbavatī, Lakṣmaṇā, so many; thousands – “Aye, what did you do! You gave in charity our most beloved husband to Nārada Muni. How can we survive; how can we stay?” All shouted at her, “Get Him back! Get Him back! Give him something else; ask him.”

Then she requested Nārada Muni, “Please, give Him back. They are all shouting at me and they will kill me. Please ask for some alternative for it.”

“Alright, this only alternative is there to bring a scale.” Do you understand, weighing scale? Two pālās are there. “Kṛṣṇa will sit on one of the pālās; the same weight of all valuable ratnas, gold, diamonds, pearls, muktā, whatever money you have in Dvārakā, you bring and put in the other pālā; the same weight I will take. That is the alternative.”

“Alright, we will give.”

So, Kṛṣṇa sat on one of the pālās and they brought all, whatever available. What is there not in Dvārakā; such opulent city is Dvārakā, and Kṛṣṇa is full with all opulence. They brought everything, from all wives, all ornaments, gold and diamond, jewellery, jewels, pearls, but Kṛṣṇa is heavy; nothing is equal. There are now exhausted; bankrupt now. Finished; nothing is available. The whole Dvārakā-bhūmi is bankrupt. [Laughter].

“Kṛṣṇa is heavy now, so then I will take Kṛṣṇa. You cannot give the same weight of wealth.”

And Rukmiṇī was intelligent. She said, “Alright, alright! I have some.” She removed all [wealth]. She brought a tulasī leaf and wrote the name of Kṛṣṇa – ‘Kṛṣṇa’ – and put it; that became heavy. Understand? This is the wealth of kṛṣṇa-nāma. “Alright, take it.”

Nārada Muni was very happy, “Now I got the real wealth! Yes; it’s heavier than Kṛṣṇa.”

The name of Kṛṣṇa is heavier than Kṛṣṇa. It is the real, such wealth, bābā! Such a fool you are! [Laughter]. Collecting…

adhane yatana kari dhana teyāginu

gaura-kīrtana-rase magana nā hainu

(Gora Pahu [Ākṣepa Song 1]: Text 2 and 4 rephrased, Prārthanā)

Such a rascal you are! Adhane yatana kari dhana teyāginu / gaura-kīrtana-rase magana nā hainu. You are kicking the [real] interest in collecting adhana. The material wealth is not wealth at all; it’s subject to destruction, subject to [being] taken away by robbers; ḍakaitas killing you. The real dhana you are not collecting. And Gaura is giving that dhana through nāma-saṅkīrtana.

Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare

Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare

The real dhana, nāma-prema dhana, bhakti-dhana. Do you understand? You cannot evaluate. If you can chant pure name, the beautiful Śyāmasundara form, all-attractive; whose beauty far excels that of crores of Cupids, will be before you. You can see, “Oh, such attractive, such beautiful [form]!” You will get Kṛṣṇa. isn’t it? Then how will it be that you’ll be attracted to the ugly witch Māyā; the material world, material assets, material objects! Will there be any attraction?[52:48] You are not attracted to the real attractive, all-beautiful Kṛṣṇa and you attracted to all material objects, illusionary objects, ugly witch Māyā therefore you’ve such attachment towards it. It’s a very strong attachment, like strong glue; it’s not separated. Therefore, you have been suffering here. Isn’t it?

Bhāgavata kṛṣṇera śrī-aṅga. Mad-eka-bandho mad-prāṇa-nātha [Kṛṣṇa-līlā-stava, Obeisance 107 Text 415] — Bhāgavata is the Lord of my life, Sanātana Gosvāmī said, my most intimate friend is Bhāgavata. It is non-different from Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇera śrī-aṅga — it is the body of Kṛṣṇa. Tahāte kahena yata gopya kṛṣṇa raṅga — all confidential līlās are there depicted in Śrīmad Bhāgavatam. Bhāgavatam has descended here: nigama-kalpa-taror galitaṁ phalaṁ (Sb. 1.1.3) — this is the most ripened, sweetest, nectarean, juicy fruit of the Vedic tree: Bhāgavata, bābā. Taste this fruit; nectarean, juicy fruit: Bhāgavata. Tasting liquor, tasting liquor; taste this nectarean juice. What Bhāgavata says:

śrī-brāhmaṇa uvāca
parigraho hi duḥkhāya
yad yat priyatamaṁ nṛṇām
anantaṁ sukham āpnoti
tad vidvān yas tv akiñcanaḥ

(Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 11.9.1)

Understand, Manohara? Try to understand.

parigraho hi duḥkhāya
yad yat priyatamaṁ nṛṇām
anantaṁ sukham āpnoti
tad vidvān yas tv akiñcanaḥ

Eleventh Canto, Ninth Chapter, Verse One says: What is very dear to you? What is dear to you? The body is very dear. Isn’t it? Yes. Isn’t it? Are you prepared to give up this body? No, it’s a very dear body. Nasty body, filled with kapha-vāta-pitta — mucus, air and bile; such a bag. You are so much attached to it. Manohara, very much attached to it; isn’t it? Not prepared to give it up. This nasty body gives us all trouble, all suffering. Isn’t it? And those who are related to the body — husband says my wife, wife says my husband, my son, my daughter, my so-called friends, family members, kith and kin, my assets, hard-earned money, my bank balance — these are very dear and you are attracted towards it, developed so much strong attachment to it. Therefore, you suffer here, the verse says.

He who is real attractive, all-beautiful Kṛṣṇa, real asset, wealth, Kṛṣṇa and His holy name, you are not attracted towards it, you’ve not developed attachment to it; therefore you suffer. Therefore, you suffer. Yes, this is why you suffer here in this material world. But one who is really intelligent, catura, who is a dear devotee of Kṛṣṇa, who is akiñcanatad vidvān yas tv akiñcanaḥ — [one] who is akiñcana… Do you understand what is akiñcana? [One] who has nothing in this material world; no material asset at all. Do you follow? Materially zero; pauper. That is akiñcana. Kuntī-devī’s prayer is there.

janmaiśvarya-śruta-śrībhir
edhamāna-madaḥ pumān
naivārhaty abhidhātuṁ vai
tvām akiñcana-gocaram

(Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.8.26)

O Lord, who can see You? [One] who is akiñcana, niṣkiñcanaakiñcana-vittāya — who has no material asset; materially zero, pauper. He is akiñcana, niṣkiñcana; Kṛṣṇa is his asset. He never aspires for; he never begs anything from Kṛṣṇa.

na dhanaṁ na janaṁ na sundarīṁ

kavitāṁ vā jagad-īśa kāmaye

mama janmani janmanīśvare

bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukī tvayi

(Śrī Śikṣāṣṭaka: Text 4)

Mahāprabhu has taught us. Do you understand? “O Jagadīśa, O Lord of the universe, O Jagat-nātha, O Viśvanātha, I am not asking anything for me. Na dhanam – I am not asking for material wealth; na janam – I am not asking for material followers; na sundarīm kavitām – I am not asking you give me a beautiful lady, I want to enjoy. I am not asking for that. Na mukti – no liberation; janmani janmani īśvare – life after life, I am asking one thing, please give me unalloyed devotion only – bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukī tvayi. Ahaitukī bhakti, akiñcanā bhakti, unalloyed devotion only You give. Life after life I will serve Your lotus feet, give You all pleasure. I am not asking anything for me.”

He is akiñcana, niṣkiñcana. He has nothing here in this material world. Do you understand? Materially zero; pauper. Kṛṣṇa is his asset. Then Kṛṣṇa says, “Oh! He is rendering such loving service to Me. He is not asking for anything. What shall I do? I am indebted to him. Alright, take Me. Take Me, take Me.” So, Kṛṣṇa gives Himself. He is akiñcana; he gets Kṛṣṇa, he sees Kṛṣṇa always. His everything is in relation to Kṛṣṇa. He sees all beautiful; though this is duḥkhālaya, but in his vision it is all beautiful, all pleasurable. Otherwise, what pleasure is there, what beauty is here? He gets unlimited, transcendental pleasure; ananta sukha. Do you follow me? Because he has developed attachment only for Kṛṣṇa, nothing else. No material attachment he has.

But baddha-jīva, the conditioned soul, from time immemorial, has forgotten Kṛṣṇa and developed bodily conception of life; knows the body only – like an animal, two-legged animal – and the bodily demands: eating, sleeping, defending and mating. These are my requirements. This is the be all and end all of my life, to acquire all these things. Isn’t it? Just collecting the objects of sense enjoyment. Isn’t it? Isn’t it? Day and night toiling hard like an ass. So, what is the consequence? Hard-earned money; facing so much trouble, so much danger. Isn’t it? He is facing, yes, his body is facing. “Mahārāja, very hard, very hard! I am a pauper now; no money. Nobody is coming to me.” [Laughs]. Crying, crying. Yes. Do you understand?

So, toiling hard; collecting that material wealth, money, faces so much danger, so much hardship; and something he has collected, how to keep it, every moment afraid, fearful. “Oh! Someone will come; rob me of! Kill me, shoot me, stab me and take away.” Isn’t it? That fear is there. So much anxiety, day and night. Yes. I was telling that thing, how Sanātana Gosvāmī told his servant, “Why did you bring such dangerous things with you; the gold coins?” Gave everything to that motel-owner. He had said, “I would have killed you this night and taken away [but] you gave me.” Then his heart changed; he said, “No, no. I won’t take it from you. You are a sādhu, I think. You take it.”

Sanātana Gosvāmī said, “No, no, no, no. You take it; it is yours. If you’ll [not] take, somebody else may kill me; better you take.” [Laughs]. “If you won’t take, somebody else in the way must[may] kill me. Such dangerous [thing], why will I carry such dangerous thing; better you take, you take. You take, you take. Help me, help me with this very night. You help me, give me some men; I shall cross this dangerous jungle and hilly tract of land and get out from it.” Do you understand? Then he was very much pleased. He gave some men. Then Sanātana Gosvāmī got of this and asked his servant, “Have you anything more with you?”

“Yes, one. I have one [coin].”

“Oh, again you have one!” [Laughter]. “Alright. You take it; you go back home. I don’t need you with me; I will go alone. I have the real wealth.”

Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare

Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare

No thief, no ḍakaita will come to rob you. Nobody will shoot you, murder you for this wealth. The government will never levy some taxes on this wealth. [Laughter]. Your brother will not demand share for it also. [Laughter]. Such wealth is there! Such wealth is inexhaustible! Permanent bank balance. In the words of my Guru, permanent bank balance. Your bank balance will be exhausted, yes, but this is such wealth, it is permanent, inexhaustible wealth. Such a fool, not earning this wealth. This wealth, chanting fearlessly, moving. Do you understand? He is akiñcana. He has earned the real wealth. Do you understand? No anxiety, no fear, nothing.

So baddha-jīva, the conditioned soul doesn’t know this thing. Day and night toiling hard to collect these material objects of sense enjoyment, material wealth. He faces so much danger, so much anxiety with the hope of getting some happiness, but instead gets more and more distress. Yes. That means, though he gets some little happiness, but it is not unmixed. It is mixed with unlimited distress. Happiness mixed with unlimited distress. Isn’t it? Duḥkha-prada sukha. You want? You want that? Is it very good for you, Maheśa Paṇḍita? But [one] who is akiñcana, materially zero, no material assets, niṣkiñcana, who is completely disinterested, he never gets such pleasure, happiness mixed with unlimited distress. He gets unlimited, transcendental pleasure and happiness because he has earned the real wealth, i.e., nāma-prema-dhana

akiñcanasya dāntasya
śāntasya sama-cetasaḥ
mayā santuṣṭa-manasaḥ
sarvāḥ sukha-mayā diśaḥ

(Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 11.14.13)

What is his vision; do you understand, Manohara? Get this wealth.

akiñcanasya dāntasya
śāntasya sama-cetasaḥ
mayā santuṣṭa-manasaḥ
sarvāḥ sukha-mayā diśaḥ

Eleventh Canto. Fourteenth Chapter, Text Thirteen says: [one] who is akiñcana, niṣkiñcana, materially zero, who has gotten the real wealth – Kṛṣṇa and His name… Such sweet name; madhura, madhura-nāma

hari-nāma kṛṣṇa-nāma baḍa hī madhura

yei jana bhaje kṛṣṇa sei baḍa catura

Hari-nāma, kṛṣṇa-nāma is so sweet, tasty. [Laughter]. Bitter, bitter, bitter; not tasty. One who does kṛṣṇa-bhajana, he is really intelligent. Really intelligent, baḍa hī catura. He is akiñcana, niṣkiñcana. He is jitendriya; his senses are controlled. Otherwise, how can you control your senses and the demands of the senses? They drag you; they drag you? Isn’t it? Eyes drag [in] one direction, ears drag [in] another direction, tongue drags [in] another direction. Isn’t it? Genitals drag [in] another direction. Just pulling like this: [makes pulling gestures]. [Laughs]. Miserable life, bābā! [Laughs]. As a person who has many wives; dragging: “Aye! Come to me.” “Aye! Come to me.” “Aye! Come to me.” Dying, bābā! [Laughter]. Life is miserable. Isn’t it? Like that, geha pati [?]. Geha pati [?]. [Laughs]. Isn’t it?

One who is akiñcana, niṣkiñcana, he completely engages — hṛṣīkeṇa hṛṣīkeśa [Nārada-pañcarātra] — all his body, mind, speech, all senses engaged in the loving service of Kṛṣṇa; completely restrained. He is peaceful. He sees only Kṛṣṇa everywhere and everything related to Kṛṣṇa. He has developed equal vision. He is self-satisfied. He has developed such vision that this whole world... he never sees this material world, “Oh, it’s Kṛṣṇa’s Vaikuṇṭha-jagata; this is Kṛṣṇa’s world.” Therefore, it is all pleasurable, all joyful; blissful only he sees. Otherwise it’s duḥkhālaya; you see duḥkha, suffering. Isn’t it? Is there sukha? Is your vision such? Do you follow? Bhaktasya sukham sukhasyānubhāvam ca vivṛṇoti akiñcanasyati dvābhyān [?]. Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura gives commentary. Yes. Do you understand?

I was giving that example: you are carrying thousands of dollars with you; moving, moving, always facing danger. Yes. Fearful, apprehension. “Oh! Who is coming? Some [?]. Oh, who is coming! Is a ḍakaita coming?” [Laughter]. All fearful situation. Isn’t it? All fearful situation. Yes. Because you are not carrying the real wealth. You are carrying adhana; vinaśvara, which is subject to destruction. That dhana you are carrying. The real dhana, holy name, the akiñcana carries that dhana. Inside and outside, he is only attracted to Kṛṣṇa. he has no attraction for material objects. Therefore, he is śānta, he is peaceful. Sama-niṣṭhatā, he has developed an equal vision. Do you understand? Sama-cetā; svargāpavarga-narakeṣv api tulyārtha-darśinaḥ (Śb. 6.17.28), wherever he may be situated.

We are staying in a hilly tract of land; some solitary, out of the way inn. Anybody can come and stab us. Only jungles are there; nothing. But who protected? Kṛṣṇa is the protector; His name is the protector — the real wealth. We have no wealth; why the thief will kill us? If the astrologer comes and calculates, “No, no. He has nothing. He is zero, a pauper.” The astrologer will tell the motel-owner, “So, this Maheśa Paṇḍita carries gold coins.” “Alright, kill him at night.” [Laughter]. Such danger, tension. Do you understand?

He sees everything equal: svarga – heaven, narka – hell; apavarga – Brahman platform; everything equal. How is it equal? Because he sees only Nārāyaṇa; he sees only Kṛṣṇa. That is equal [vision], otherwise… So, such premī-bhakta, who has gotten kṛṣṇa-prema, chanting pure name, he sees his iṣṭa, his worshippable Lord, all-attractive, Śyāmasundara, within and without. Hṛṣīkena hṛṣīkeśa sevanam — with body, mind, speech, all his senses, he is engaged day and night, twenty-four hours in rendering loving service to Hṛṣīkeśa. Do you understand? Yes. He is happy. He is always immersed, drowned in transcendental pleasure — nityānanda. Do you understand? He is really happy. He is really happy, really blissful. Paramānanda parāyaṇa. Viśvaṁ pūrṇa sukhāyate (Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛta, Text 5). That is his vision: the whole universe is sukhālaya. It is not duḥkhālaya. It is not a miserable platform; it is all blissful platform. Yes, he sees. Otherwise, how can you see it?

Bhagavān pūrṇa vastu — He is completely full. Yes. The premī-bhakta, who gets the Pūrṇabrahma Kṛṣṇa… Kṛṣṇa is Pūrṇabrahma, He is completely full; getting whom one will never face deficity, no incompleteness because He is completely full. How can he feel incompleteness, one who has gotten the completely full, Pūrṇabrahma. Such a premī-bhakta never feels any deficity, no incompleteness. Yes. But this material wealth, all this is incomplete; deficity. Whatever you may get, still you feel deficity. Deficity, deficity, deficity. “Ten thousand dollars. Oho, I want one million dollars!” If you get, “No, ten million!” “No, hundred million!” “No, crores!” Unlimited desire, bābā. Will you be satisfied, Iśvara Dāsa? Always feel deficity, always feel deficit. Yes.

But a akiñcana, niṣkiñcana, who has got the real wealth, never feels deficity because he is completely satisfied. Completely full; that gives no incompleteness; it’s paripūrṇa vastu. Yes; and all his senses, body, mind, speech are always engaged in rendering loving service to Kṛṣṇa and He reciprocates. There is reciprocation; it is not one-sided, [from] two sides. “Alright, he gives everything, all pleasure to me.” Then He gives you. Then you get the real pleasure, the real happiness. He never, therefore, asks for heavenly opulence or enjoyment; no mukti. Nothing. And he is never attracted to and he has no taste for anything; the only taste is tasting such nectarean mellow; chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa and hearing bhāgavata-kathā, kṛṣṇa-kathā. Such nectarean mellow he is only tasting. What taste do you want? Liquor? [Laughter]. Do you understand? This is what…

kṛṣṇa vinā tṛṣṇā-tyāga — tāra kārya māni

ataeva ‘śānta’ kṛṣṇa-bhakta eka jāni

svarga, mokṣa kṛṣṇa-bhakta ‘naraka’ kari’ māne
kṛṣṇa-niṣṭhā, tṛṣṇā-tyāga — śāntera ‘dui’ guṇe

(Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.214-215)

One who gotten Kṛṣṇa, paripūrṇa vastu, all beautiful, and His name is so tasty, His kathā is so nectarean, relishable, tasty; such a kṛṣṇa-bhakta accepts svarga or mokṣa [as] ‘Oh, this is all hell! Hell, hell, hell, hell!’ Apavarga – hell; this is all hellish for him. [? 1:16:08]. Do you understand? Mahāprabhu gives such wealth. He is such wonderfully munificent, wonderfully merciful, wonderfully magnanimous. “I will give the highest thing for the people of Kali-yuga, i.e., name.” Invaluable wealth; so sweet. So sweet; such invaluable wealth. And get Kṛṣṇa, who is completely full with the six types of opulence; never feel deficity at all. All blissful, all happy.

Otherwise, no happiness is here; duḥkhālaya. No sukha, no happiness. Whatever happiness, pleasure is here, it is mixed with unlimited, unlimited distress, displeasure and discomfort. Only if you get Kṛṣṇa, chant pure name then you get some happiness and [become] free from all anxiety, all distress. You develop such vision, wherever you see, “Oh, this is Vaikuṇṭha!” Yes. My Guru Prabhupādajī Mahārāja said, “I open Vaikuṇṭha. This temple means Vaikuṇṭha.” Yes, temple means Vaikuṇṭha. Understand me? Yes. Come to Vaikuṇṭha, stay here! Why are you staying in the motel, bābā? Why are you staying in the motel? Come and stay in Vaikuṇṭha. Do you follow?

This is our university, bābā, viśvavidyālaya. What education does this viśvavidyālaya, university impart? Viśvanātha, the Lord of viśva. Viśvanātha is Kṛṣṇa. But university education has divorced[?] Viśvanātha. What sort of education is this which has divorced Viśvanātha and say it viśvavidyālaya-viśvavidyālaya? What sort of viśvavidyālaya is it which has divorced Viśvanātha? This temple [which] Vaiṣṇavas opened, this is viśvavidyālaya of Viśvanātha. This is Viśvanātha’s viśvavidyālaya. Yes. Here we impart such education where you can understand Kṛṣṇa – Jagadīśvara, Jagat-nātha, Jagannātha, Viśvanātha – develop Kṛṣṇa consciousness and understand, realise what is your real identity, how you are eternal servant of Viśvanātha, how you can find him out if you render loving service to Him. Yes. Who is nātha, the Lord of the whole universe, Viśvanātha – He is our nātha, He is our husband, He is our Lord, svāmī. He is our svāmī. Jagannātha-svāmī. Knowledge relating to Him is real knowledge a viśvavidyālaya can impart. If that knowledge is not there, what sort of knowledge a viśvavidyālaya imparts? This is real viśvavidyālayanāma. Na nāma sadṛśaṃ jñānaṃ (Ādi Purāṇa, as quoted in Hari-bhakti-vilāsa 11.465).

If you can chant holy name, pure name all knowledge automatically will manifest. Yes. You have forgotten that. We have not become servant of Kṛṣṇa, not become servant of holy name, nāma-prabhura dāsa. A woman who has no husband. Nātha means husband. A woman who has no husband, what is her condition? You are like that. A woman having no husband, parityaktā. That is your condition, bābā! Isn’t it? That is your condition. You have not gotten your husband in Jagannātha, Viśvanātha. You have forgotten. Baddha-jīva, conditioned soul, you have forgotten from time immemorial but He never forgets. He makes so much arrangement for you. “See Me, get Me, bābā, chant My name. Thereby, you will get Me; you can understand Me.”

In whatever species you may be, He never leaves you, deserts you. He is always with you as Paramātmā in the heart. You may be a worm in the stool, still He never hates you. He never hates you; He never deserts you. Still He is in you. Isn’t it? Do you understand such a loving husband, loving master He is? Do you understand? He never deserts us. So? Rather, He sheds tears seeing our distressed condition, suffering condition. A loving father, loving husband, He sheds tears. But you, you are shedding tears for you most beloved Lord. Are you shedding tears? [Laughter]. Ae! Mahāprabhu taught us: ‘hari hari’ bolite nayane ba’be nīra (Gaurāṅga Bolite Habe, Text 1). Unless you shed tears for your most beloved, how can you get Him? What is the test of your love for Him? How do you love; you are not shedding tears for Him? What rāsa[?] you have; what rāsa you have? This is the test; best[?] test. Karuṇā nā haile, kāndiyā kāndiyā / prāṇa nā rākhiba āra (Gurudeva Kṛpā-bindu Diyā, Text 4) — unless I get mercy I will just cry and cry and cry and finish my life.

This vow take up; take up this vow. Chant Hare Kṛṣṇa and go on crying, then you will get your most beloved Lord Kṛṣṇa. Thank you very much.
