Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Text 25. cakreṇa kṣura-dhāreṇa jahāra pibataḥ śiraḥ haris tasya kabandhas tu sudhayāplāvito ’patat [ŚB 8.9.25] Translation by śrīla Prabhupāda. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, using His disc, which was sharp like a razor, at once cut off Rāhu’s head. When Rāhu’s head was severed from his body, the body, being untouched by the nectar, could not survive. When the Personality of Godhead, Mohinī-mūrti, severed Rāhu’s head from his body, the head remained alive although the body died. Rāhu had been drinking nectar through his mouth, and before the nectar entered his body, his head was cut off. Thus Rāhu’s head remained alive whereas the body died.

This wonderful act performed by the Lord was meant to show that nectar is miraculous ambrosia. This mysterious, līlā of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That's our question. Why this, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, in the form of Mohinī-mūrti, couldn't detect that demon, Rāhu, who entered into the group of demigods and sat down there and drank nectar. That was the topic here. Yesterday, we were discussing. Here one may ask why the Supreme Personality of Godhead could not detect Rāhu. The reason is that the Lord wanted to show the effects of drinking nectar.

So this verse is the effect of, this wonderful act performed by the Lord was meant to show that nectar is miraculous ambrosia. The Moon and Sun, however, were all alert in regard to Rāhu. When Rāhu entered the assembly of demigods, Moon and Sun immediately detected him. And then the Supreme Personality of Godhead became aware of him. Then He is using His disc, which was sharp like a razor, at once cut off Rāhu's head. Nectar had not touched his body, so Rāhu's head remained only alive and body died. This is, wonderful līlā, mysterious. Nobody can understand this līlā or the mystery behind it.

It's question of līlā-rahasya. Līlā-rahasya. Mystery. Confidential tattva lying in this pastime, and who understands? Yesterday we were discussing that thing. īśvarera kṛpā-leśa haya ta’ yāhāre sei ta īśvara-tattva jānibāre pāre. One who has gotten some mercy, of that Supreme Lord Hari, he understands, he knows this mysterious līlā, the tattva behind it. Otherwise, nobody can understand it. Without the mercy of Supreme Lord, nobody can understand Him. Nobody can understand the mystery behind this līlā. nāhaṁ prakāśaḥ sarvasya yoga-māyā-samāvṛtaḥ mūḍho ’yaṁ nābhijānāti [Bg. 7.25].

In Bhagavad-gītā Kṛṣṇa says this thing, “I am covered up with yoga-māyā potency, mūḍha a rascal cannot know Me, cannot see Me, cannot understand Me though, He is all pervaded. His dear devotee Prahlād Maharaj saw Him in a stone pillar whereas, his demoniac father Hiraṇyakaśipu couldn’t see, though He is there. So, only, His dear devotee is completely surrendered. He knows. Though Kṛṣṇa Supreme personality of Godhead tries His best to hide Him, but He cannot hide Himself before the eyes of such devotee. One developed unalloyed devotion and has bound Him up with the rope of love.

sadā mukto’pi baddho’smi bhaktena sneha-rajjubhiḥ ajito’pi jito’haṃ tair avaśyo’pi vaśī-kṛtaḥ tyakta-bandhu-dhana-sneho mayi yaḥ kurute ratim ekas tasyāsmi sa ca me na hy anyo’sty āvayoḥ suhṛt api me pūrṇa-kāmasya navaṃ navam idaṃ priyaṃ niḥśaṅkaḥ praṇayād bhakto yan māṃ paśyati bhāsate [Sri Hari Bhakti Subhodhaya, 14.29, 30, 31] In Hari-Bhakthi-Subhodaya, Lord Nṛsiṁha Dev says this thing to His dear devotee Prahlād. He says this thing, that means, though I am Supremely independent, Supremely free, eternally free, still I am bound up by the rope of love of my dear devotee.

Though I am Mukunda, mukti-pradāta, one who can give you mukti. He is Mukunda who gives mukti, but He becomes bound up. You are bound by māya, material entanglement so only that Mukunda can make you free from such entanglement, free from such bondage. But that Mukunda Himself falls into bondage, bondage of love, of His dear devotee, that He says. ajito’pi jito’haṁ tair avaśo’pi vaśī-kṛtaḥ He is unconquerable in three worlds, nobody can conquer Him, ajit. Isn’t it? One of His names is Ajita. Ajita means unconquerable, nobody can conquer Him, but He becomes conquered by His dear devotee.

Dear devotee can conquer Him, can defeat Him. It’s the question of love only. Who is dear, very dear, who is, who is such a devotee? What is symptom? Who can bind up Kṛṣṇa? By the rope of love in his heart? tyakta-bandhu-dhana-sneho mayi yaḥ kurute ratim ekas tasyāsmi sa ca me na hy anyo’sty āvayoḥ suhṛt api me pūrṇa-kāmasya This symptom says this thing. tyakta-bandhu-dhana-sneho mayi yaḥ kurute ratim. He has given up everything, that devotee. His relatives, his family members, his kith and kin. His dear ones, friends, his wealth, everything.

He has given up and he has only developed love and affection towards Kṛṣṇa, he is akiñcana-bhakta, he has nothing in this world, that bhakta has nothing in this world, nothing material. He is devoid of everything here, no asset, no wealth, no friend, no relatives. He is akiñcana-bhakta. Kṛṣṇa is everything for him and Kṛṣṇa is asset, Kṛṣṇa is friend, Kṛṣṇa is relative, Kṛṣṇa is father, Kṛṣṇa is mother, Kṛṣṇa is everything for him. Such a bhakta that Nṛsiṁha dev says. So between this bhakta and Bhagavān there is nothing dear, so that Bhagavān is dear to bhakta and bhakta is dear to Bhagavān.

In Caitanya-caritāmṛta you will also find, bhakta āmā preme bāndhiyāche hṛdaya-bhitare yāhāṅ netra paḍe tāhāṅ dekhaye āmāre [CC Madhya 25.127] That devotee has bound me up in his heart with the rope of love and wherever he looks, he sees me. He always sees me, though Kṛṣṇa tries his best to hide Him. But He cannot hide Himself from the eyes of such devotee. Always sees. This is question of love. That’s love. That devotee, such devotees play with Kṛṣṇa, talk with Kṛṣṇa, joke with Kṛṣṇa. This loving reciprocation is there.

api me pūrṇa-kāmasya navaṃ navam idaṃ priyaṃ niḥśaṅkaḥ praṇayād bhakto yan māṃ paśyati bhāsate Kṛṣṇa is known as pūrṇa‑kāma, ātmārāmā. What do you mean by that?

Devotee: Self-satisfied.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Self-satisfied. He has no deficit at all. He never needs anything. Never feels any need, requirement. Still, He says. Always self-satisfied, still He says, "I always in need of such love and affection from My dear devotee or devotees. So, before such devotees, I am always new, newer, newer and newer. That gives me pleasure." ahaṁ bhakta-parāadhīno hy asvatantra iva dvija sādhubhir grasta-hṛdayo bhaktair bhakta-jana-priyaḥ nāham ātmānam āśāse mad-bhaktaiḥ sādhubhir vinā śriyaṁ cātyantikīṁ brahman yeṣāṁ gatir ahaṁ parā.

ye dārāgāra-putrāpta- prāṇān vittam imaṁ param hitvā māṁ śaraṇaṁ yātāḥ kathaṁ tāṁs tyaktum utsahe mayi nirbaddha-hṛdayāḥ sādhavaḥ sama-darśanāḥ vaśe kurvanti māṁ bhaktyā sat-striyaḥ sat-patiṁ yathā [ŚB 9.4.63-66] Ninth Canto Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Supreme Lord says to Durvāsā Muni. ahaṃ bhakta‑parāadhīno hy asvatantra iva dvija. The same thing what Nṛsiṁhadev says, though I am Supremely independent still I am dependent on my devotee. bhakta‑parāadhīno. sādhubhir grasta‑hṛdayo bhaktair bhakta‑jana‑priyaḥ. That bhakta or sadhu had occupied my heart.

That devotee, sadhu is so dear to me, affectionate to me, he has occupied my heart. nāham ātmānam āśāse mad-bhaktaiḥ sādhubhir vinā śriyaṁ cātyantikīṁ brahman yeṣāṁ gatir ahaṁ parā Akiñcana-bhakta what do you mean by that?

Devotee: Desireless devotee. Desireless.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Who is devoid of everything, bereft of everything material. Nothing material. No material asset, no material relatives, friends. Nothing he has. He is akiñcana. So that Lord, Supreme Lord is his asset, He is his everything for him. That He says, nāham ātmānam āśāse mad‑bhaktaiḥ sādhubhir vinā śriyaṁ cātyantikīṁ brahman yeṣāṁ gatir ahaṁ parā. That means I don’t want to enjoy that transcendental pleasure and six opulences without My devotees. Without My devotees, I don’t want to enjoy all such things, I enjoy all these things with My devotees, that He says.

Who are such devotees? ye dārāgāra-putrāpta- prāṇān vittam imaṁ param hitvā māṁ śaraṇaṁ yātāḥ kathaṁ tāṁs tyaktum utsahe [ŚB 9.4.65] That He says. Who are such devotees or who is such devotee? He says those who have given up their gṛha. What do you say? Home, family, wife, sons, daughters, friends, relatives, kith and kin, their wealth, even they are prepared give up their life for Me. They are completely surrendered unto Me. They are completely dependent on Me. How can I give them up? How can I give them up? They have given up everything for Me, how can I give them up?

I can’t give them up. He says. Then he says, hitvā mām śaraṇam yātāḥ kathaṃ tān tyaktum utsahe mayi nirbaddha‑hṛdayāḥ sādhavaḥ sama‑darśanāḥ vaśe kurvanti māṁ bhaktyā sat‑striyaḥ sat‑patiṁ yathā. They have bound me up with the rope of love, as they have. As Kṛṣṇa, Mohinī-mūrti here she has captivated, Mohinī-mūrti has captivated. Enchanted everybody. Similarly, those dear devotees they captivate Me, they enchant Me. I have become captivated by them, those who have given up everything for Me, they have such unalloyed devotion, love.

Pure love for Me, so I become bound up by their love. He says, example is, vaśe kurvanti māṃ bhaktyā sat‑striyaḥ sat‑patiṃ yathā. (20:00-25:35, translation missing) Mahāprabhu is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is completely full with the six opulences. He showed His opulence and asked Śrīdhara, "You are so poor. Ask for any opulence, I will give you." He said, "No, I don't want anything. I only want that, that every day this Nimāi Gaurāṅga will go and put His hand in my basket. I will catch hold of His hand and this, this thing, līlā, I want to see."

Such bhakta, dear devotee. Then He says this thing, Gaurahari says this thing to Śrīdhara. viṣaya-madāndha saba e marma nā jāne suta-dhana-kula-made vaiṣṇava nā cine dekhi’ mūrkha daridra ye vaiṣṇavere hāse tāra pūjā-bitta kabhu kṛṣṇere nā vase akiñcana prāna kṛṣṇa sarva veda gāya sākṣāt gaurāṅga ihā sabāre dekhāya tomāra virahe āmi prema-bhakti-yoga niścaya jānio prema-bhakti mora prāṇa [Caitanya Bhāgavata, 2.16.147-150] Caitanya Bhāgavata. Those who are puffed up. Those who have developed very great false ego, materialistic persons.

They cannot understand, they cannot recognize a Vaiṣṇava. sutha kuladhane kula madha vaiṣṇavanā cinit janmaiśvarya-śruta-śrībhir edhamāna-madaḥ pumān naivārhaty abhidhātuṁ vai tvām akiñcana-gocaram [ŚB 1.8.26] Kuntī Devī's prārthanā is there. One who has aristocratic birth, he is naturally puffed up. One who has material opulence, he is naturally puffed up, proud. One who has acquired some material education, degree, learnings, scholarship, he is very puffed up. And one who has very good physical body, this beauty, he is also puffed up.

He cannot become akiñcana. edhamāna-madaḥ pumān naivārhaty abhidhātuṃ vai tvām akiñcana-gocaram Lord, You cannot be seen by them. Śrīdhara is akiñcan. He's an akiñcana, small, humble. Tṛṇād api sunīcena. That’s Mahāprabhu śikṣā. Humbler than a blade of grass on the street. akiñcana prana kṛṣṇa sarvoa vede gaya. akiñcana-prāṇa kṛṣṇa’- sarva vede gāya sākṣāte gaurāṅga ei tāhāre dekhāya [Caitanya Bhagavata, 2.16.150] If you cannot become akiñcana like this, you cannot see Kṛṣṇa. You cannot get Kṛṣṇa. You cannot understand His mysterious līlā.

You cannot develop prema-bhakti at all. That it says, "prema-bhakti-yoga." Cannot develop. dekhi’ mūrkha daridra ye vaiṣṇavere hāse tāra pūjā-bitta kabhu kṛṣṇere nā vase [Caitanya Bhagavata, 2.16.148] Such puffed-up persons, materialistic persons. They laugh at such akiñcana Vaiṣṇavas. They commit such offense. Kṛṣṇa never accepts their pūjā. akiñcana prana kṛṣṇa sarva veda gaya, in all Vedas it says, that Kuntī Devī says, akiñcana gocaram. Kṛṣṇa is the asset of such akiñcana bhaktas because they have no asset.

Kṛṣṇa is their asset, akiñcana-prāṇa. Kṛṣṇa is their life and soul, everything. sarva vede gāya sākṣāt gaurāṅga. Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu manifested this thing. tomāra virahae āmi prema-bhakti-yoga niścaya jānio, prema-bhakti mora prāṇa When Akiñcana Śrīdhara didn't ask for anything, then He gave. Gaurāṅga said, "I gave you prema-bhakti. That means I gave myself to you. The prema by which which I become bound up, I give it to you." That means Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu became bound up with love that akiñcana bhakta Śrīdhara.

niścaya jānio, prema-bhakti mora prāṇa "You should understand this prema-bhakti is my life and soul." atyanta nigūḍha prema koribāre dāna śikhāye śaraṇāgati bhakatera prāṇa. That song is there. what is that song. What is that song? No, Bhaktivinoda Thakur. What is that song? atyanta nigūḍha prema, koribāre dānu, śikhāye śaraṇāgati, bhakatera prāṇa. śrī-kṛṣṇa-caitanya prabhu jīve dayā kari' sva-pārṣada svīya dhāma saha avatari' atyanta nigūḍha prema-pāribāra dāna śikhāya śaraṇāgati bhakatera prāṇa.

Showering His mercy upon these jīvas, Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu descended here with His dhāma, with His associates here. To teach you śaraṇāgati. atyanta nigūḍha prema. So, this is question of prema, which is very, very secret. Very, very mysterious. Very, very confidential. To give that prema. He descended here, and He teaches you this śaraṇāgati. Because this śaraṇāgati is dependent on prema. This is question of prema. Without prema, nobody can surrender, you see. That is Mahāprabhu's teaching.

atyanta nigūḍha prema pāribāre dānu śikhāya śaraṇāgati bhakatera prāṇa. Which is the life and soul of the devotee, bhakta. That śaraṇāgati. Uh? śaraṇāgati is the life and soul of the bhakta, akiñcana bhakta. And Mahāprabhu teaches that śaraṇāgati to give you prema. Because without śaraṇāgati, nobody can get prema. Or without prema, what you say? Interrelated. Interdependent or interrelated. Without prema, there is no question of śaraṇāgati, or without such śaraṇāgati, there is no prema at all.

This is what is interdependent and interrelated. That śikhāye śaraṇāgati bhakatera prāṇa. That is life and soul. Here, Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu says that thing. akiñcana prāna kṛṣṇa sarva veda gāya sākṣāt gaurāṅga ihā sabāre dekhāya tomāra virahae āmi prema-bhakti-yoga niścaya jānio prema-bhakti mora prāṇa You should understand that the prema-bhakti is My life and soul. So I give that prema-bhakti to you. Because he's akiñcana. And Kuntīdevī also said the same thing.

janmaiśvarya-śruta-śrībhir edhamāna-madaḥ pumān naivārhaty abhidhātuṃ vai tvām akiñcana-gocaram Oh, Lord. The one who is akiñcana, only he can see You. Only he can utter Your name. Śrī Kṛṣṇa Govinda. Hare Kṛṣṇa. Only he can utter. Nobody can utter Your name, if he is not akiñcana. That, the purport here, Kuntīdevī is saying this thing. Because this is question of love. This question of love. Unless you are completely detached from all material attachments, how can you develop attachment towards Kṛṣṇa?

You can't utter His name. That He says. Those are gross materialistic persons. Those are so puffed up and proud with their materialistic possessions. They cannot become akiñcana. They cannot surrender. They cannot utter the name of Kṛṣṇa at all. If they utter, that is not name at all. That is only alphabets coming out. akṣara bāhirā haya, nāma nāhi haya. Only alphabets are coming out. But it is not name. The word in the dictionary comes out, but not the name of Kṛṣṇa, which is non-different from Kṛṣṇa.

That is the purport here. That is purport here. Here, Kuntīdevī says, in first canto, you'll find all these things. namo ’kiñcana-vittāya nivṛtta-guṇa-vṛttaye ātmārāmāya śāntāya kaivalya-pataye namaḥ [ŚB 1.8.27] Oh Lord, You are the asset of that akiñcana bhakta, because he has no asset. He is devoid of all material assets, he's akiñcana. Oh Lord, You are the asset of that akiñcana bhakta, and that akiñcana bhakta is Your asset. That akiñcana bhakta is Your asset, and You are his asset.

He is namo 'kiñcana-vittāya. And previously also, in ninth canto, Durvāsa Muni to Supreme Lord says that thing. And here, this, that point is also here. You don't want to enjoy Your transcendental pleasure and six opulences without this, these akiñcana bhaktas. You don't want to enjoy. That is said. So, I offer my praṇāma, obeisance to You. Who is the asset of such akiñcana bhakta. Something else. Here also you'll find, nāhaḿ vande tava caraṇayor dvandvam advandva-hetoḥ kumbhīpākaḿ gurum api hare nārakaḿ nāpanetuḿ.

ramyā-rāmā-mṛdu-tanu-latā nandane nāpi rantuḿ bhāve bhāve hṛdaya-bhavane bhāvayeyaḿ bhavantaḿ [Mukunda-mālā-stotra, Verse 4] na dhanaḿ na janaḿ na sundarīḿ kavitāḿ vā jagad-īśa kāmaye mama janmani janmanīśvare bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukī tvayi [Sri Siksastakam, verse 4] Mahāprabhu says, śikṣā. Such a bhakta, is a akiñcana bhakta, his dear devotee. And say, "Oh Jagadīśa, the Lord of universe, I don't want wealth, I don't want material followers, I don't want beautiful women to enjoy and don't want liberation."

Life after life, I only want to render loving service unto Your lotus feet. Nothing else." This is Mukunda-mālā-stotra. nāhaḿ vande tava caraṇayor dvandvam advandva-hetoḥ kumbhīpākaḿ gurum api hare nārakaḿ nāpanetuḿ ramyā-rāmā-mṛdu-tanu-latā nandane nāpi rantuḿ bhāve bhāve hṛdaya-bhavane bhāvayeyaḿ bhavantaḿ That means, O Hari, I, take shelter at Your lotus feet. I have taken complete shelter at Your lotus feet. For what purpose? He says, for what purpose?

I'm not taking shelter at lotus feet to be free from material bondage or that You'll deliver me from going to hell. That purpose also I have not taken shelter at Your lotus feet. ramyā rāmā-mṛdu-tanu-latā-nandane nābhirantuṃ bhāve bhāve hṛdaya-bhavane bhāvayeyaṃ bhavantam. I am not taken shelter at the lotus feet to get beautiful women for enjoyment. To be embraced by the arms of such women. Soft arms of such women. I haven't taken shelter at the lotus feet.

To fulfill all this purposes, all desires. Only bhāve bhāve hṛdaya-bhavane bhāvayeyaṃ bhavantam. Only I have taken shelter at the lotus feet. That every moment I will enjoy and taste the nectar coming out from Your lotus feet. Thereby I will be ecstatic and absorbed in that. What do you say? Ocean of nectar. Bhāvāmṛta-sindhu, and I'll never forget such lotus feet even for a moment. Only for this purpose, not for any other purpose. That is this verse says. Then he says:

dharmārtha-kāma-mokṣeṣu necchā mama kadācana tvat-pāda-pañkajasyādho jīvitaṃ dīyataṃ mama mokṣa-sālokya-sārūpyān prārthaye na dharādhara icchāmi hi mahābhāga kāruṇyaṃ tava Suvrata [Bhakti Rasamrta Sindhu, 1.2.50-51] Nārada-pañcarātra. Oh Lord, I don't ask for You this dharma artha kāma mokṣa. I have no desire for it. dharma artha kāma mokṣa. Four puruṣārthas. I am, I'm not asking for You. I have no desire for it. And also this, what he says, mokṣa sālokya sārūpyaṃ na prārthaye 'dharādhara.

I also know, I have no desire for these four types of mukti. sālokya, sārṣṭi, sārūpya, sāmīpya. I have no desire to. I am not asking for that thing. icchāmi hi mahā-bhāga kāruṇyaṃ tava suvrata tvat-pāda-paṅkajasyādho jīvitaṃ dāyitāṃ mama [Bhakti-Rasamrta Sindhu, 1.2.51] Oh Lord, I am only desirous of having Your lotus feet. Please, don't kick me with Your lotus feet. Please accept me as a speck of dust at Your lotus feet, O Lord. This is only prayer.

bhava-bandha-cchide tasyai spṛhayāmi na muktaye bhavān prabhur ahaṃ dāsa iti yatra vilupyate [Brhad Bhagavatamrta, 1.4.68] Hanumān-jī says like this. Hanumad-vākya. Oh Lord, you are Mukunda, you can give mukti. Liberation from the material bondage. But I don't ask for that thing. I don't ask for that liberation, because if I get that thing, then I cannot think myself as Your eternal servant, and Yourself as my eternal master. I cannot think of that thing, and I cannot establish myself in that relationship.

If I get liberation. So I have no other desire than this servitorship. That Hanumān says, because he is ideal servant. dāsye kapi pati. That when Rāma went to Ayodhyā, went back to Ayodhyā, at the end of Tretā-yuga. He took everybody, those who were in Ayodhyā, but He left Hanumān here. He didn't take Hanumān with Him. Hanumān is here, still now. Hanumān is so dear to Him. Hanumān opened his heart and showed how in their heart, there is only Sītā and Rāma. No, nothing else.

Such dear devotees of dāsya, dāsya. Dāsa means servant. dāsya-bhakti. Why, why did Lord Rāma leave him here? Such a dear servant. Why did He take him to Ayodhyā? As dāsya-bhakti, stay here and (PAUSE) I don't want anything. I want only Your service. Yes. That is what. Then, in padyāvalī you’ll find, sandhyā-vandana bhadram astu bhavato bhoḥ snāna tubhyaṁ namo bho devāḥ pitaraś ca tarpaṇa-vidhau nāhaṁ kṣamaḥ kṣamyatām yatra kvāpi niṣadya yādava-kulottamasya kaṃsa-dviṣaḥ.

smāraṁ smāram aghaṁ harāmi tad alaṁ manye kim anyena me [Padyāvalī, verse 79] In Padyāvalī, you will find this thing in Mahājana’s songs. Here it says, devotee says. O Gāyatrī-mantra, Gāyatrī-dhyāna, Gāyatrī-pāṭha. O sandhyā-kṛtya. Sandhyā means in evening time, in morning time, what we do that sandhyā-kṛtya. Let all auspiciousness be with you. O tīrtha-snāna. Taking bath in tīrtha, holy places. I pay my obeisances to you. O demigods. O my ancestors. I cannot do any homage.

I am unable to pay you any homage. Please excuse me. Please excuse me. I only want to live anywhere and constantly think of that Kṛṣṇa, who is the enemy of Kaṃsa, Kaṃsāri. And constantly, again and again, think of Him, and I think this is enough for me. I don't want anything to do. That he says, snānaṃ mānasa-bhūta-kriyā ca na kriyā sandhyā ca bandhyābhavad vedāḥ kheda-m-avāpuḥ śāstra-paṭalī sampuṭitā dharmo mama hatu yātu nirayam prāṇakhyaṃ prāptavān cittaṃ cumbati yādavendra-caraṇa-dvandve.

mama hy aniśam This is Padyāvalī. "Let my mind day and night, 24 hours, be attached to the lotus feet of that Yādavendra Kṛṣṇa." Let my, what do you say? Citta-bhṛṅga. The bee of my mind kiss. What do you say? cumbana kare? Kiss. Let the bee of my mind kiss that lotus feet of Yādavendra every moment. Let me be engaged in this kissing affair only. I don't want anything else. Therefore, when I am engaged in only this affair, this kissing affair, kissing the lotus feet of Yādavendra Kṛṣṇa.

Then, this sandhyā-vandana, the evening prayer, morning prayer, evening bath, morning bath, they became morose. Because I couldn't do it, they became morose. And all the ritualistic ceremonies, Vedic ceremonies, they became distressed because I didn't perform them. And all Vedic literatures, they became bound up in the box because I don't read them. I've no time. So, they become distress at their heart because I am not using them. I am not opening that box.

Purport is there. One who is completely attached to the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa, develops such akiñcana-bhakti, ananya-bhaktā unalloyed devotion. He never does all these things. nithya-naivṛttir anya-karmā. He never does. So, these activities have deserted him. This is what Padyāvalī says. mugdhaṁ māṁ nigadantu nīti-nipuṇā bhrāntaṁ muhur vaidikāḥ mandaṁ bāndhava-sañcayā jaḍa-dhiyaṁ muktādarāḥ sodarāḥ unmattaṁ dhanino viveka-caturāḥ kāmam mahā-dāmbhikam.

moktuṁ na kṣāmate manāg api mano govinda-pāda-spṛhām [Padyāvalī, verse 81] Another verse from Padyāvalī says. People cannot understand such a devotee. They, he's a pāgala, he's a mad fellow. Isn't it? But he says, those who are... What to say? Only after these moral principles. Moral principles, nītivādī. Let them tell me, "Mad," because I never follow any moral principles. And those who are Vedic pandits. That, they say that I am misdirected, bhrāntaḥ. Let them say so.

Those who are my so-called friends, relatives. They say that I am very bad person. I never keep friendship with them. Never visit them, nothing. Just let them say that, that thing. Those who are my brothers. They have deserted me because I am, they think me as an ignorant fool, a deaf, and dumb, and mad fellow, like Jaḍa Bharata. Let them do that thing. And those who are very conscientious persons, they think me that I am a very puffed-up fellow. So I never keep contact with anybody.

I'm so puffed up. And never beg their help. They think of me as puffed up. Let them think so. moktuṁ na kṣāmate manāg api mano govinda-pāda-spṛhām. Still, O Lord, let my. How do you say? This bee, citta-bhṛṅgaḥ, bee of my, let the bee of my mind. Let the bee of my mind not leave, even for a moment, Your lotus feet, O Lord. Let them say whatever they like. I don't care for it. nanda-nandana-padāravindayoh syandamāna-makaranda-binduvah sindhavah parama-saukhya-sampadām.

nandayatu hṛdayaṃ mamāniśam [Padyāvalī, verse 86] Another verse from Padyāvalī. Many nice verses are there. So, I said this is, makaranda-bindavaḥ. It is, Nectars coming, emanating. Nectar emanating from the lotus feet of Nandanandana, son of Nanda Mahārāja. Drop by drop, they are falling. Drop by drop. That nectar is falling from the lotus feet of Nandanandana, son of Nanda Mahārāja, drop by drop. And they form an ocean. By falling drop by drop, they form an ocean.

Let my mind and heart inundate constantly at every moment in that ocean. This is that thing. Let my mind and heart drown, it should drown, drown in that ocean constantly. Immerse. Immerse in that ocean constantly. Thereby, I get transcendental pleasure and happiness. Let my heart be, constantly, what do you say, be cheerful. Being constantly, let my heart be constantly cheerful and feel that ecstasy, transcendental bliss, by drinking such drops of nectar.

Dropping from the lotus feet of Nandanandana. That is said. I am always eager for it. I'm always eager for it. Therefore, I'm completely surrendered unto that lotus feet. I'm completely dependent on that lotus feet. I have taken complete shelter at that lotus feet with only this view, nothing else. I only desire this thing, not anything else. This is the symptom, and this is the characteristics of such dear devotees of the Lord, those who don't want anything else than the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa.

They don't want; they don't care for anything. They are constantly attached, constantly attached. Day and night, 24 hours, they are attached to the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa never leaves them. Kṛṣṇa cannot leave them. Kṛṣṇa has become bound up with the rope of love. By them. So, such devotees understand this mysterious līlā, pastimes of the Supreme Lord. And this stuff, they know. Nobody else knows. This is the purport here.

Otherwise, this Mohinī-avatāra, the incarnation Mohinī-mūrti and the Lord's very mysterious līlā pastimes here, is not an easy affair to be understood. It's the only thing required. Thank you.

Devotee: When you say no, no śaranagathi no prema, no prema, no śaranagathi.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Huh?

Devotee: You said no śaranagathi, no prema.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes.

Devotee: No prema, no śaranagathi.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes. Interrelated.

Devotee: So, it means once surrendered, so you get in touch with prema, which makes you more surrendered, more prema, more surrendered, more prema.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Complete surrender, complete surrender. Yes. That means

Devotee: But this tendency, if it is interdependent, interdependent,

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Interdependent, yes. Interrelated. Interrelated. One cannot exist without the other. That is what. One cannot exist without the other. That means that there will be no question of prema without complete surrender, and there is no question of complete surrender without prema. One cannot exist without the other.

Devotee: So how does one's surrender to start? prema is at the beginning.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yeah.

Devotee: Then how can we start surrender?

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yeah. Unless you develop prema, how can you surrender? Or only surrender, how can you get prema? The interconnection.

Devotee: But how do you get the first instalment of prema to surrender?

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: You can't say which is first and which is the next. You can't say so. If you say surrender is first and prema is next, or prema is first and surrender is next, you can't say so. It's such, it's such confidential tattva. You cannot understand it in such logic. You are adding some material logic to it, which is first and which is next. No question of such thing. This is first and this is next. No. I say, without surrender, there is no question of prema. And without prema, there's no question of surrender. That means one cannot exist without the other. They're so interrelated, or simultaneous, we may say simultaneous. Simultaneous happening, simultaneous happening. You cannot say first time the next.

Devotee: Otherwise, it's mind

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yeah, your material mind. Your mind is material mind. How can you conceive? This is not material. So inconceivable, it says inconceivable. How can you conceive which is inconceivable? With that, how can you conceive which is inconceivable? Therefore, Prahlād maharāj says, what he says? na tāṁs tarkeṇa yojayet. acintyāḥ khalu ye bhāvā na tāṁs tarkeṇa yojayet [CC Ādi 17.308] Which is inconceivable, don't add any material logic and deliberation to it. You, you should not add any material logic and deliberation to it which is inconceivable. acintyāḥ khalu ye bhāvā na tāṃs tarkeṇa yojayet. That it says. Just accept it.

Devotee: I was, I was becoming completely hopeless because you say no prema, no śaraṇāgati. And no śaraṇāgati, no prema. Then how, how can I, how can I get

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: (laughs)

Devotee: How can I get? How can I get it?

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: It's only the mercy. It's only the mercy of guru and Gaurāṅga, sādhu. sādhu-guru-kṛpā binā prema nāhi haya, nāma nāhi haya. Where it says, "One who is not akiñcana, not completely surrendered, he cannot utter the name of Kṛṣṇa and Govinda." That is said. kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ. How can you do Hari-kīrtana unless you develop prema? This is the loving affair. You always speak of Him, you always glorify Him, you always think of Him, always do His kīrtana. He has occupied your heart completely, your mind completely. Who is He? Is He a lover or beloved? Isn't it? He's completely occupied your mind and heart. Then you can glorify Him, then you can think of, then you can chant His Name. All right, no? So, this is question of love. kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ, therefore it says kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ. However, should ask Hari-kīrtana. The person devoid of such prema doesn't do Hari-kīrtana, cannot do Hari-kīrtana. No. No, no question at all. Not doing at all. Maybe doing, but it's not Hari-kīrtana. Alphabets are coming out, nāma nāhi haya, name is not coming out. The word and dictionary coming out, name is not coming out. Try to understand the tattva behind it. Discussing of tattva vichār. Very confidential tattva. Your material logic, your material mind cannot conceive this thing. It's so safe thing. Hari.

Devotee: Gurudev. Some devotees they're trying very hard to surrender. And you see them, they're, they're working.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Surrender is spontaneous!

Devotee: They're working very hard. Some devotees-

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: You should understand spontaneous.

Devotee: Spontaneous.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Spontaneous.

Devotee: When we are hopeless.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: It's quite natural and spontaneous. Nothing artificial.

Devotee: Yes.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: No imposition. No imposition is there. No artificiality is there. It's quite natural and spontaneous. This ātmā-vṛtti, this vṛtti of ātmā, not body and mind. Now what is the question of trying hard? Your body may be trying hard, mind may be trying hard, not the soul. The ātmā-vṛtti, the vṛtti of the soul, not the body and mind. Yes? You are ātmā, you are not body and mind. So, you are trying hard in, through your body or mind. So how, how can you get it?

Devotee: This can only, this can only be aroused by mercy of sādhu.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: By mercy of sādhu.

Devotee: Aroused.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: sādhu-guru-kṛpā binā. Without kṛpā sādhu-guru, you cannot have it. Cannot have it.

Devotee: By, by hearing the pastimes of Kṛṣṇa?

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes, from the right source, from such lips. Yeah.

Devotee: No strength.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: No strength. No strength.

Devotee: No strength to do and no strength in, in the practice?

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Huh?

Devotee: No strength in doing sādhana and no strength for, for doing sādhana? Both?

Devotee: Both, both, both. Yes, both.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Everything either.

Devotee: Yes. So, the only one question, how to get it? That's the only question. How to get that kṛpā. That is the only question. That should be the only goal. Somehow or other I must get that kṛpā.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes.

Devotee: That should be the only concern.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Who is a greedy fellow, we should develop greed for it. Kṛṣṇa! āmi je kāṅgāl, kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa bali tabu pāche pāche. kāṅgāl, pauper.

Devotee: Completely kāṅgāl

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Completely kāṅgāl, pauperSo, I need it, I need it, I need it. I feel, I feel the necessity, dire necessity, dire necessity. Without it, I cannot survive. Such is the.

Devotee: More, more. (laughs)

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: (laughs) Then you run, you run. This is my life and soul. I can't live without it. Like that. Yeah? Yes. If you can't feel, feel such necessity, how can you run and how can you get?

Devotee: Then one has to be really akiñcana.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes. akiñcana. Yes. Yes, akiñcana, tvām akiñcana gocaram.

Devotee: It seems some, some devotees, they have an idea of total surrender as being working completely for the mission of ISKCON—

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Have to serve ISKCON -

Devotee: ...working very hard. And following this spiritual program. And they see this is their complete surrender, was to completely dedicate themselves to preaching in this movement.

Devotee: Yeah, yeah. Yes. They are just, following the orders of their spiritual master. Their spiritual master said, "Do these things." Yes. Then they will get the mercy of spiritual master, they will develop. Yes. Yes. Spiritual master says, he is sādhu-guru.

Devotee: Yes. That is what is most pleasing to guru.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes. yasya prasādād bhagavat-prasādo yasyāprasādān na gatiḥ kuto 'pi. Then with mercy of sādhu-guru, you'll get the mercy of Kṛṣṇa. Otherwise, how can you get mercy of Kṛṣṇa? Kṛṣṇa-kṛpā. You can't get without one of those who follow the instruction of sādhu-guru as it is, as it is. Don't add any deliberation to it. No plus and minus. No plus and minus. No change. Follow as it is. You get? Yes, you get?

Devotee: It’s just that when, when you described, "I want the nectar." I just want nectar, nectar. When I think like that, I, I just feel like sitting in a room and just reading. I don't feel like going and working.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yeah. (laughs)

Devotee: But what pleases the guru most, I understand Śrīla Prabhupāda was pleased when we actually went and did so many things to spread this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes. When you get such thing, you should not be selfish. You, you should distribute it to others. Then it will, it will increase.

Devotee: It will increase?

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes. More you distribute, more increases. Anything material you distribute, it decreases. This, this thing is complete opposite. More you distribute, more you give, more it increases.

Devotee: So, one has to simultaneously preach this knowledge and cultivate it within his heart.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes, yes. Therefore, you should, you should not, you cannot be selfish. Your heart will bleed for this suffering soul; you must get out and distribute. Take it, take it, take it, take this nectar, take this nectar. Drink it, drink it, have it. Then you increase. More and more you get, supply will be more and more. More you distribute, more supply will come to you.

Devotee: That is the mercy of Guru-Gaurāṅga.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes. How can you sit?

Devotee: Because the more you distribute, the more you will get.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes. That will be automatic. You cannot sit silently anywhere. You will get out. That is life. That is life.

Devotee: Yes.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: That is your life. praṇāma-citta-hṛta-prasāda There is one mahājana song. Because he has life, so he is preaching.

Devotee: Bhaktisiddhānta Saraswathi Goswami.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes, Bhaktisiddhānta Saraswathi Goswami says, Bhaktivinoda Thākur says, praṇāma-citta-hṛta. He has life, therefore he is preaching. No preaching, no life, dead, śava, śava, dead body. That is there. That I say. You want more and more.

Devotee: Yes.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Unlimited thing. You'll not be satisfied with it. How can you get more and more? If you give more, you will get more. More you give, more you get. The supply will, will be more and more to you.

Devotee: So, so real, real guru-dakṣiṇā is to preach?

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes.

Devotee: That is real dakṣiṇā?

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yeah. That juḍāya bhaktivinoda-prāṇa, nāma binā kicu nāhika āra caudda-bhuvana-mājhe. That song is there. juḍāya bhaktivinoda-prāṇa. Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura says, "Give pleasure to my heart." juḍāya bhaktivinoda-prāṇa. Give pleasure to my heart, my life, my life and soul. If you go out and preach, chant, distribute and I'm praying, then my heart and soul will be so much pleased. You are pleased.

Devotee: Also, it said that preaching is from the platform of surrender.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yeah.

Devotee: So, one cannot give what he doesn't have.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: How can he give? When he doesn't have, how can he give? If you have no one rupee, how can give one rupee? Huh?

Devotee: But for instance, one who is going out like distributing books, he may not be fully surrendered but he's trying to surrender. And meanwhile he's giving what he got.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: No, they're, they're, they are carrying out the orders of the guru. They're carrying out the orders of the guru. They will get. If they carry out without any motive, without any motive, any desire, just to please my guru, they will get. They will get. Yes. Yes, they will get. That is beginning of sādhana. Beginning. You don't know Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa will never come to you, but His representative is there. He's there. You can see him. You can surrender unto him. Develop such love and attraction, affection towards His representative.

Yes. That is the question of love also. Without love also you cannot surrender unto guru. Yes. This love is always there. If you develop, if you develop love towards Kṛṣṇa, it's automatic that you will develop love towards His devotees. Yes. What to speak of devotees, you will develop love towards all living entities because they belong to Kṛṣṇa. You have some vision now. You'll be endowed with some vision. Your heart will be bleeding. Seeing the suffering souls, because they belong to Kṛṣṇa. Out of ignorance they have been suffering, you see.

How can I? What Prahlāda Mahārāja says, "I don't want liberation. I don't want. I don't want to leave this material world without delivering all these suffering souls." That is the sādhu's heart. That's love. If you, that we say, you can love one and all if you love Kṛṣṇa. Otherwise, you, you cannot love one and all. That's not love at all. That is lust. That's lust. That cannot be said as love. Only love is the affair with Kṛṣṇa and Kṛṣṇa-bhaktas. No other thing is there.

If you develop love for Kṛṣṇa, then automatically you will love one and all, every living entity because they belong to Kṛṣṇa. "Oh, they belong to Kṛṣṇa." "He's related to my lover or beloved, so he's also. dear to me." That is the question. So without this, how can you love? Then that is no love at all. It's only artificiality or lust, not true love. No.

Devotee: I mean, like love is unholy if it's based on one for his sake. But if it's based on one person because he's Kṛṣṇa's servant-

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Right.

Devotee: ..then it becomes true love, holy love.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes, holy, true. Yes, true love. Yes, pure love. Yes, pure love, unconditional. No condition. Yes.

Devotee: And that love will take the shape of compassion.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Compassion.

Devotee: That would be its expression.

Śrīmad Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes, yes, compassion, love, affection, compassion, everything. Sympathy, everything comes. Yes. All right. Thank you.
