Gour Govinda Swāmī:
Essence of all Vedic literature, last contribution of Śrīla Vyāsa. cāri-veda-upaniṣade yata kichu haya, tāra artha lañā vyāsa karilā sañcaya [CC Madhya 25.98]. Vyāsa, after compiling four Vedas, Upaniṣadas, Purāṇas, Itihāsa Purāṇas, at last he compiled this Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, taking all the essences from all the Vedas, all Upaniṣadas, all Purāṇas. kṛṣṇa-bhakti-rasa-svarūpa śrī-bhāgavata. Śrī Bhāgavata is kṛṣṇa-bhakti-rasa, is the melo kṛṣṇa-bhakti. tāte veda-śāstra haite parama mahattva [CC Madhya 25.150]. So it is, the essence of all Veda Śāstras, superior, everything.

bhāgavata-śāstre se bhaktir tattva kahe, teñi bhāgavata-sama kona śāstra nahe [CB, Antya 3.509]. In Bhāgavata Śāstra, the prema-bhakti-tattva has been said, therefore no scripture is as good as Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. bhāgavata, tulāsī gaṅgāya, bhaktajane, caturdhā vigraha kṛṣṇa ei cāri sane [CB Madhya 22.81]. In this material world you'll find four manifestations of Bhāgavata that is, I mean to say, manifestation of Kṛṣṇa, that is Bhāgavata, Tulasī, Gaṅgā and bhakta. These are four manifestations of Kṛṣṇa here in this material world. kṛṣṇa-tulya bhāgavata vibhu, sarvāśraya, prati-śloke prati-akṣare nānā artha kaya [CC Madhya 24.318]. Bhāgavata is as good as Kṛṣṇa. As we take shelter of Kṛṣṇa, similarly we also take shelter of Bhāgavata. In every verse, even in every word, in every letter, many, many meanings are there. Nitya bhāgavata-sevayā is daily activity.

yāha, bhāgavata paḍa vaiṣṇavera sthāne, ekānta āśraya kara caitanya-caraṇe [CC Antya 5.131]. Go and approach a bhakta-bhāgavata to study and hear Bhāgavata from him, and completely take shelter of Śrīman Caitanya Mahāprabhu because Śrīman Caitanya Mahāprabhu gives prema-bhakti through which one can understand Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. bhaktyā bhāgavataṁ grāhyaṁ na buddhyā na ca ṭīkayā. Only through bhakti one can understand Bhāgavata. One cannot understand Bhāgavata by dint of his scholarship, his merit, intelligence or taking help of the commentaries given by many commentators like Śrīdhara Svāmī, Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura, Madhvācārya, Jīva Gosvāmī, etc. Only by bhakti. Therefore, one should develop śuddhā-bhakti, pure bhakti to understand Bhāgavata and the other hand also.

yasyāṁ vai śrūyamāṇāyāṁ kṛṣṇe parama-pūruṣe, bhaktir utpadyate puṁsaḥ śoka-moha-bhayāpahā [ŚB 1.7.7]. Only by hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam from the right source one can very easily develop bhakti. Thereby, he can understand Bhāgavata. Those who say that ‘I know Bhāgavata. Bhāgavata is written in Sanskrit. Many commentaries are there. It is written in Sanskrit. I am Sanskrit scholar so I can read it and understand it.’ He says, ‘No.’ bhāgavata bujhi heno yāra ācche jñāna, se nā jāne kabhu bhāgavatera pramāṇa [CB Madhya 22.14]. bhāgavate acintya īśvara-buddhi yāora, se jānaye bhāgavata-artha bhakti-sāra [CB Madhya 22.25].

Therefore in Caitanya-Bhāgavata this has been said, One who says that he knows Bhāgavata, he can understand Bhāgavata. He doesn't know Bhāgavata. se nā jāne kabhu bhāgavatera pramāṇa. He doesn't know at all. bhāgavate acintya īśvara-buddhi yāra, sei jāne bhāgavata-artha bhakti-sāra. One who knows Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is non-different from Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa and is only understood through bhakti, he knows Bhāgavata. Nobody knows. This is bhāgavata ye nā māne, se yavana-sama tāra śāstā āche janme-janme prabhu yama [CB 1.1.39]. Doesn't accept Bhāgavata, doesn't accept the teachings, siddhāntas, conclusions given in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is Mleccha and Yavana, he is to be punished by Yamarāja life after life. So, we accept Bhāgavata and we go and approach a bona fide bhakta-bhāgavata to hear Bhāgavata, to understand Bhāgavata and cultivate the teachings of Bhāgavata daily life.

taj-joṣaṇād āśv apavarga-vartmani śraddhā ratir bhaktir anukramiṣyati [ŚB 3.25.25] is not passive listening. One should understand it in tattva and cultivate in one's life. taj-joṣaṇād. Then āśu apavarga-vartmani śraddhā ratir bhaktir anukramiṣyati. Then very easily he will tread this path of bhakti and gradual development of śraddhā-rati-bhakti. This is the glory of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Now we will come to the text. oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, first canto. Chapter nineteen, text thirty-six: anyathā te ’vyakta-gater darśanaṁ naḥ kathaṁ nṛṇām, nitarāṁ mriyamāṇānāṁ saṁsiddhasya vanīyasaḥ.

Translation by Śrīla Prabhupāda: Otherwise [without being inspired by Lord Kṛṣṇa] how is it that you have voluntarily appeared here, though you are moving incognito to the common man and are not visible to us who are on the verge of death? Purport by Śrīla Prabhupāda: The great sage Śukadeva Gosvāmī was certainly inspired by Lord Kṛṣṇa to appear voluntarily before Mahārāja Parīkṣit, the great devotee of the Lord, just to give him the teachings of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. One can achieve the nucleus of the devotional service of the Lord by the mercy of the spiritual master and the Personality of Godhead. The spiritual master is the manifested representative of the Lord to help one achieve ultimate success. One who is not authorized by the Lord cannot become a spiritual master. Śrīla Śukadeva Gosvāmī is an authorized spiritual master, and thus he was inspired by the Lord to appear before Mahārāja Parīkṣit and instruct him in the teachings of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. One can achieve the ultimate success of going back to Godhead if he is favored by the Lord’s sending His true representative. As soon as a true representative of the Lord is met by a devotee of the Lord, the devotee is assured a guarantee for going back to Godhead just after leaving the present body. This, however, depends on the sincerity of the devotee himself. The Lord is seated in the heart of all living beings, and thus he knows very well the movements of all individual persons. As soon as the Lord finds that a particular soul is very eager to go back to Godhead, the Lord at once sends His bona fide representative. The sincere devotee is thus assured by the Lord of going back to Godhead. The conclusion is that to get the assistance and help of a bona fide spiritual master means to receive the direct help of the Lord Himself.

anyathā te ’vyakta-gater darśanaṁ naḥ kathaṁ nṛṇām, nitarāṁ mriyamāṇānāṁ saṁsiddhasya vanīyasaḥ. Parīkṣit Mahārāja says to Śukadeva Gosvāmī, Otherwise [without being inspired by Lord Kṛṣṇa] how is it that you have voluntarily appeared here, though you are moving incognito to the common man and are not visible to us who are on the verge of death? This is by the inspiration of Lord Kṛṣṇa. Śukadeva Gosvāmī appeared before Parīkṣit Mahārāja. So Parīkṣit Mahārāja says. In purport Śrīla Prabhupāda, spiritual master says that thing.

Mahārāja Parīkṣit was a great devotee of the Lord. At the same time, he was the ruler, emperor of the whole world. But, he was cursed by a brahmacārī, that he would die within seven days. Great serpent Takṣaka would come, bite him, and he would die. Thereby he could understand, he could know that he had only seven days of time, life will finish. So, he gave up everything. He gave up his whole empire, kingdom. Gave up his all opulences. Gave up everything. He had everything in this material world. Such a great emperor. And went to the bank of Ganges and sat down there. During his administration or rule, all were happy and leading very peaceful life because he was such a great devotee. He was carrying out this administration work according to the principles of dharma, bhāgavata-dharma, teachings of Lord Kṛṣṇa. So all were happy.

When such a king or emperor left kingdom, left administration, so devarṣis, brahmarṣis, maharṣis, sages, saints all came down there. Because they thought of, ‘If such an emperor, such a ruler will give up administration, then there will be great disturbances.’ Demoniac persons will raise their heads, create so many disturbances, there cannot be happiness and prosperity and peace at all. The saints and sages, they were doing their bhajana, kīrtana without disturbances. Now there will be disturbances. So they all came. And Parīkṣit Mahārāja asked them one question. I have only seven days time. What is my duty now? What shall I do to achieve the supreme perfection of human life? To achieve the supreme perfection of human life? He became very, very up and doing, impatient, very eager to know, ‘What is my duty? How can I achieve that supreme perfection? What is that supreme perfection?’ To get Kṛṣṇa. To get Kṛṣṇa. That is the supreme perfection of life.

How Kṛṣṇa would be gotten? How Kṛṣṇa would be approached? Only by bhakti. Only by pure bhakti, Kṛṣṇa will be approached, gotten. No other way is there. That means how can I get or receive that highest gain? That means, how can I get, how can I get that highest benediction through which I will offer loving services unto that Supreme Lord? In other words, we may put in this way. He became very up and doing, very eager, impatient, because no time was there. Only seven days time. So many saints and sages were present there. They gave many, many directions. Some said, ‘You may do such type of yajña.’ Some said, ‘You do such penance, vrata, take some vows, give some charity, do this work or that work, so, that sādhana or this sādhana.’ Many, many things they said. But nothing was decided. So, at last, this Śukadeva Gosvāmī came. So that question was also put to Śukadeva Gosvāmī. Śukadeva Gosvāmī said, ‘You hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.’

And unanimously it was accepted. Yes, that's correct. Only by hearing, just yasyāṁ vai śrūyamāṇāyāṁ kṛṣṇe parama-pūruṣe bhaktir utpadyate puṁsaḥ śoka-moha-bhayāpahā [SB 1.7.7]. Only by hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam from the bona fide source, bona fide authority, one can develop Kṛṣṇa bhakti very easily. Thereby you'll get Kṛṣṇa and achieve the highest perfection of his life. That's the only means. Huh? So here, Parīkṣit Mahārāja said that, ‘It is Kṛṣṇa who inspired Śukadeva Gosvāmī to come here.’ Parīkṣit Mahārāja's guru, who will now teach, instruct Parīkṣit Mahārāja about this bhakti-tattva, would give him this teaching of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. So this is guru-tattva here spoken. How can one get bona fide guru? Unless Kṛṣṇa inspires. This have said. Parīkṣit Mahārāja says that thing. Kṛṣṇa inspired you, you are moving incognito. Nobody knows you. But Kṛṣṇa inspires you, therefore you are visible now. You came here. This is Kṛṣṇa's inspiration.

So we'll find also in Caitanya-caritāmṛta and other Śāstras also. brahmāṇḍa bhramite kona bhāgyavān jīva, guru-kṛṣṇa-prasāde pāya bhakti-latā-bīja [CC Madhya 19.15] Isn't it? That is stated in Caitanya-caritāmṛta and other scriptures, Prema-vivarta by Jagadānanda Paṇḍita also you'll find. All the Mahājanas, Ācāryas, they have said this thing. brahmāṇḍa bhramite kona bhāgyavān jīva guru-kṛṣṇa-prasāde pāya bhakti-latā-bīja. tāte kṛṣṇa bhaje, kare gurura sevana, māyā-jāla chuṭe, pāya kṛṣṇera caraṇa [CC Madhya 22.25]. After wandering lakhs, lakhs, lakhs of universes brahmāṇḍa bhramite kona bhāgyavān jīva, if someone is fortunate, he gets this seed of bhakti-latā, bhakti-latā-bīja, bhakti as a creeper. He gets the seed of the bhakti-latā by guru-kṛṣṇa-prasāda. Guru-kṛṣṇa-prasāda means, prasāda means mercy. Mercy of guru, mercy of Kṛṣṇa. By mercy of guru and Kṛṣṇa, he gets the seed of bhakti-latā. tāte kṛṣṇa bhaje, kare gurura sevana māyā-jāla chuṭe, pāya kṛṣṇera caraṇa. Then by the instruction of guru under the guidance of guru, he does kṛṣṇa-bhajana. He serves guru, pleases him, gets his mercy. Under his guidance, he does kṛṣṇa-bhajana. Thereby, he becomes free from the clutches of māyā and gets the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa. That is the supreme perfection of life. Huh?

One who gets, janana-maraṇādi-saṃsāranala-santapto dīpta-śirā, jala-rāśim iva upahāra-pāniḥ śrotriyaṃ brahma-niṣṭhaṃ gurum upasṛtya tam anusarati [Pedānta-sāra 11]. Śāstra says this thing. Who gets? Who gets such a bona fide representative of Kṛṣṇa? That means before whom this bona fide representative of Kṛṣṇa appears? Here it says, Śukadeva Gosvāmī is moving incognito. Nobody knows him. But he appeared before now to Parīkṣit Mahārāja. Parīkṣit Mahārāja was very eager. He was crying in his heart. ‘Because I have only seven day’s time. My life is now going to finished. How can I get, how can I get, how can I get the highest benediction that is Supreme Personality of God, approach Kṛṣṇa's lotus feet, and render love and service unto Him?’ Become so eager. He was crying in his heart. That is the condition. Unless one cries in his heart for this, he cannot get the mercy of Kṛṣṇa. So Kṛṣṇa will never inspire His bona fide representative to appear before that person unless he cries. This is the question, most important. So he says, janana-maraṇādi saṃsāranala-santapto dīpta-śirā jala-rāśim iva upahāra-pāniḥ śrotriyaṃ brahma-niṣṭhaṃ gurum upasṛtya tam anusarati.

When fire will catch your head, what will you do? Fire, fire! Fire will catch your head. Your head is now burning. What will you do? Huh? You roll on the ground? Nonsense. Your head is burning, so cry out, "Water, water, water! Where is water? Where is water?" Because water will extinguish this fire. Isn't it, Mr. Gaurd? Dull-headed fellow. Water is required to extinguish the fire! Isn't it? Then cry, shout, and run hither and thither, impatiently, hurriedly, ‘Where is water? Where is water? Where is water?’ Isn't it? You cannot sit silently. Can you? Because your head is burning. Isn't it? Such is the condition. Saṃsāra janana-maraṇādi saṃsāranala-santapto dīpta-śirā jala-rāśim iva. That is said. When someone becomes, what do you say? Feels, someone feels he is as if in a frying pan. In a frying pan. He is burning, burning. Huh? So, he cannot sit silently. He must run hither and thither. Where is that water that will extinguish of this burning fire? Huh?

We every day sing in Gurvaṣṭaka. What is that? saṁsāra-dāvānala-līḍha-loka-trāṇāya kāruṇya-ghanāghanatvam, prāptasya kalyāṇa-guṇārṇavasya, vande guroḥ śrī-caraṇāravindam. Are you not chanting every day? Huh? First we chant this. saṁsāra-dāvānala-līḍha-loka. dāvānala means forest fire. Nobody puts fire there, sets fire in forest. But the fire generates there. The whole forest becomes burned. The living entities there, trees, creepers, everything burned. If you telephone this, what is it, fire brigade, station. ‘Hey. Fire, fire, fire!’ Then that van will come. If they pour water, can they extinguish that fire? Can they extinguish? Forest fire? No, they cannot extinguish that forest fire. Hey, what happens to him? Come up here, lazy fellow. Sit here. Isn't it? How that fire will be extinguished? Tell me. Forest fire, dāvānala. How that fire will be extinguished? Huh?

[To a devotee] Hey! Get up and stand. Come up here. Lazy fellow. Sit here. Huh. Isn’t it? How that fire will be extinguished? Tell me. Forest fire. Dāvānala. How that fire will be extinguished? What are you saying? Are you here or somewhere else, in dreamland? Dreaming? Not hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam? So Mr. Gaurd, can you say how that forest fire will be extinguished?

Devotee: It would've burnt down all the material that's there to be burned.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: What are you saying? Are you in true consciousness?

Devotee: I don't know if it's the answer you want, but I've heard that they cut trees around the forest fire 'cause the fire doesn't have fuel if there's no one to cut trees. So..

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Nonsense. Indradeva. If Indradeva will pour incessant rains. Then that forest fire will be extinguished. No other way is there. Isn't it? Similarly, janana-maraṇādi saṃsāranala-santapto dīpta-śirā jala-rāśim iva. When you are burning here. This saṁsāra, the material world, burning, affected. You are as if in the frying pan. What are that fire? ādhyātmika, ādhidaivika, ādhibhautika, three types of tāpas are there. You are now burnt. You are now burning. How? This is known saṁsāra-dāvānala, saṁsāra-dāvānala. This saṁsāra, the material world is like dāvānala, like forest fire. All are burning here, out of three tāpas. How this fire will be extinguished? By the showering of the mercy of spiritual master, guru-kṛṣṇa-kṛpā. By the showering of the mercy of spiritual master, then this fire will be extinguished. No other way.

Therefore it says, janana-maraṇādi saṃsāranala-santapto dīpta-śirā jala-rāśim iva upahāra-pāniḥ śrotriyaṃ brahma-niṣṭhaṃ gurum upasṛtya tam anusarati. Such a person who feels that, ‘I am burning now. How this fire will be extinguished? Where is that water? That kṛpā-bāla. There's kṛpā. There's the mercy of guru. That is like water, incessant shower. That will only extinguish. So he'll run hither and thither, where is that guru? śrotriyaṁ brahma-niṣṭhaṃ gurum upasṛtya, tam anusarati. He cries in the heart and prays to the Lord. Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa is there in your heart as Paramātmā. He knows now Mr. Gard is crying. Isn't it? Mr. Gard is not crying now how to extinguish this blazing fire. So He inspires His bona fide representative. He will appear. Then he will guide, by mercy of that bona fide representative guru, then this forest fire will be extinguished. saṁsāra-dāvānala-līḍha-loka-trāṇāya kāruṇya-ghanāghanatvam, prāptasya kalyāṇa-guṇārṇavasya, vande guroḥ śrī-caraṇāravindam. Isn't it? You see? What is the meaning? What is its meaning? Say.

Devotee: It means that, we've been on the wheel of birth and death in the blazing forest fire of material existence. And the only way that it can be extinguished is from the lotus feet of the spiritual master.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: That mercy. The mercy is like raining, incessant rain. And you must pray for it. He has come down from the kingdom of God. Carrying what? kāruṇya-ghanāghanatvam prāptasya kalyāṇa-guṇārṇavasya. Arṇava means sea, ocean. Ocean. He has come down here with the ocean. What ocean? Ocean of mercy. Kṛṣṇa is known as ocean of mercy, kṛpā-sindhu. He's ocean of mercy, kṛpā-sindhu, Kṛṣṇa. If you go and approach Kṛṣṇa, ‘Oh, Kṛṣṇa, you are ocean of mercy, kṛpā-sindhu. Please give a drop from that ocean. Then this forest fire will be extinguished.’ What Kṛṣṇa tell you? Do you know? What Kṛṣṇa will tell you, Mr. Gard? What will He tell you? If you approach Kṛṣṇa, O Kṛṣṇa, you are ocean of mercy. Please give just a drop from that ocean.’ What Kṛṣṇa will tell you? Do you know?

Kṛṣṇa says, ‘You are such a fool, Mr. Gard. The ocean is not with me now.’ That ocean Is not with me now. I have sent my bona fide representative, my dear devotee there in this material world with that ocean. He has taken that ocean. Go and approach him! Why are you coming to Me. Such a fool! He's distributing, he is offering. Why don't you approach him and get that mercy? That is kṛṣṇa-kṛpā. That is kṛṣṇa-kṛpā. That we say, brahmāṇḍa bhramite kona bhāgyavān jīva, guru-kṛṣṇa-prasāde pāya bhakti-latā-bīja. What is kṛṣṇa-prasāda? What is guru-prasāda? Yes, Baladeva Prabhu? What is kṛṣṇa-prasāda? What is guru-prasāda?

Kṛṣṇa-prasāda means that what I say. Kṛṣṇa empowers one of His dear devotees. Intimate, very intimate, very dear devotee, He empowers him and gives him that ocean of mercy to him. And inspires him to come here. And distribute that mercy. That is kṛṣṇa-prasāda. Then what is guru-prasāda? The mercy of guru? Mercy of guru means, he pours this seed of bhakti-latā in such aspirant devotee who is crying for it, who is in dire need of it. That is guru-prasāda. That is guru-prasāda. Therefore, we say guru-kṛṣṇa-prasāde pāya bhakti-latā-bīja. This is two things, dependent; interdependent. It's not one thing. kṛṣṇa-prasāda, then guru-prasāda. kṛṣṇa-prasāde guru mile, guru-prasāde kṛṣṇa mile. By the mercy of Kṛṣṇa you will get a bona fide guru or meet. Kṛṣṇa will inspire him. Then by the mercy of guru, he will get Kṛṣṇa. This is interdependent.

‘kṛṣṇa-nitya-dāsa’ — jīva tāhā bhuli’ gela, ei doṣe māyā tāra galāya bāndhila [CC Madhya 22.24]. kṛṣṇa bhuli’ sei jīva anādi-bahirmukha, ataeva māyā tāre deya saṁsāra-duḥkha [CC Madhya 20.117]. Why a jīva, living entity, has been suffering here? Why, a living entity has been suffering here? Forgetfulness of Kṛṣṇa. He has forgotten Kṛṣṇa. ei doṣe māyā tāra galāya bāndhila. He has been bound up by māyā because he has forgotten Kṛṣṇa. kṛṣṇa bhuli’ sei jīva anādi-bahirmukha, ataeva māyā tāre deya saṁsāra-duḥkha. From time immemorial, anādi, whose beginning you cannot trace out, isn't it? anādi. anādi means what? Without beginning. You cannot trace out its beginning.

Ācāryas have said that. When you forget Kṛṣṇa, you cannot trace out. It cannot be traced out. If you trace out, yes, he forgets Kṛṣṇa in that, that time, in that place, then you traced out the beginning. How will it be anādi? It cannot be anādi. As it says, anādir ādir govindaḥ sarva-kāraṇa-kāraṇam - Brahma Samhita. That, īśvaraḥ paramaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ sac-cid-ānanda-vigrahaḥ, anādir ādir govindaḥ sarva-kāraṇa-kāraṇam [Bs. 5.1]. Kṛṣṇa sac-cid-ānanda-vigrahaḥ, Kṛṣṇa, He is parameśvara, He is supreme-īśvara, He is anādi. He has no beginning. Isn't it? Has he beginning? He is anādi, but He is the beginning of everything. ādi, sarvādi, isn't it? He is the beginning of everything. Everything emanates from Him, isn't it? So sarvādi, but He is anādi. He is Govinda, cause of all causes, sarva-kāraṇa-kāraṇam.

Similarly, anādi-bahirmukha. kṛṣṇa bhuli’ sei jīva anādi-bahirmukha. The jīva, living entity, has forgotten Kṛṣṇa from time immemorial. One cannot trace out the beginning, isn't it? ataeva māyā tāre deya saṁsāra-adi-duḥkha. Therefore, māyā inflicts this punishment, material punishment, janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi, on him. kṛṣṇa-bahirmukha hañā bhoga vāñchā kare, nikaṭa-stha māyā tāre jāpaṭiyā dhare [Prema-vivarta]. When living entity, jīva, wants to enjoy, lord it over this material world and enjoy. Māyā. Then that māyā captures you. piśācī pāile yena mati-cchanna haya, māyā-grasta jīvera haya se bhāva udaya [Prema-vivarta]. Māyā is a witch, piśācī, isn't it? Māyā is witch, ugly witch, isn't it Mr. Guard? But that ugly witch is enchanting you, isn't it? Huh? Are you being enchanted by that ugly witch? Mr. Guard? Isn't it?

Devotee: Yes.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yeah, that ugly witch. She has no beauty at all. Ugly piśācī. piśācī a witch. You understand? But that ugly witch is enchanting you. Huh? But Kṛṣṇa is enchanting everybody. He is all attraction. All beautiful. Kṛṣṇa. All attractive. Are you not attracted towards Kṛṣṇa?

Devotee: Yes, I am.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: You say you are attracted towards māyā, the ugly witch. Huh? To whom are you attracted? Are you attracted to Kṛṣṇa or attracted to māyā?

Devotee: Kṛṣṇa.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Kṛṣṇa, not māyā? Māyā's not enchanting you?

Devotee: She's enchanted me, but I'm not attracted.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: She tries to enchant you, but you are not attracted. Are you kicking her?

Devotee: Am I what?

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Kicking? Get out this witch. Are you kicking? You should kick her. Then that's best. piśācī pāile yena mati-cchanna haya, māyā-grasta jīvera haya se bhāva udaya. That piśācī has hunted you. So you have forgotten your own svarūpa, isn't it? Huh? What is your own svarūpa?

Devotee: What is my what?

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Your own identity.

Devotee: Servant of the servant of Kṛṣṇa.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: jīvera ‘svarūpa’ haya kṛṣṇera ‘nitya-dāsa’. Huh? The real identity of jīva is eternal servant of Kṛṣṇa. But you have forgotten it. Isn't it? Because you are captured by māyā. Māyā has entered into you. That which had entered you, had hunted you as a ghost enters into somebody, ghost or witch. When the person who is haunted by ghost, what he says? He makes some delirium. He speaks at random here and there something. If someone will ask, ‘Who are you? Oh, I am that ghost staying in that tree.’ That ghost, ghost has entered. ‘Who are you? I am that, I was staying in that tree.’ That ghost has entered. The ghost is speaking. You are not speaking.

Similarly, the māyā, the witch enters into you, captures you. Māyā speaks. You are not speaking as a kṛṣṇa-dāsa. Are you speaking like that kṛṣṇa-dāsa, servant of Kṛṣṇa? Huh? Yes. Huh? When māyā enters you, that ugly witch enters into you, captures you, you forget your real identity. What do you say? At that time do you say that, ‘I am servant of Kṛṣṇa?’ No, you never say. Māyā speaks through you. Māyā prompts you, ‘Oh, I am enjoyer. I am master. I am proprietor.’ Isn't it? You say like that. You never say, ‘I am the servant.’ You say, ‘I'm master.’ Isn't it? Because you have been hunted by that witch. If that witch will get out of you, then you'll say, ‘I am your servant O, Kṛṣṇa.’ Isn't it? That is what. piśācī pāile yena mati-cchanna haya, māyā-grasta jīvera haya se bhāva udaya. āmi nitya kṛṣṇa-dāsa ei kathā bhule, māyāra naphara hañā chira-dina bule [Prema-vivarta].

Now he becomes the servant of māyā, isn't it? Captured by māyā, wants to enjoy māyā. He becomes servant of māyā, and he forgets that, I am servant of Kṛṣṇa. He forgets that thing. So as a result, he wanders in lakhs and lakhs of universes. kabhu rājā kabhu prajā kabhu vipra śūdra, kabhu duḥkhī kabhu sukhī kabhu kīṭa kṣudra, kabhu svarge, kabhu martye, narake vā kabhu, kabhu deva, kabhu daitya, kabhu dāsa prabhu [Prema-vivarta]. brahmāṇḍa bhramite kona bhāgyavān jīva, guru-kṛṣṇa-prasāde pāya bhakti-latā-bīja [CC Madhya 19.151].

When jīva becomes captured by māyā, forgets that he is eternal servant of Kṛṣṇa, then he wanders in lakhs and lakhs of brahmāṇḍas, universes. Sometimes he becomes king, sometimes citizen, sometimes vipra, sometimes śūdra, sometimes happy, sometimes miserable duḥkhī, sometimes becomes tiny, insect or worm, sometimes he is elevated to svarga - heavenly planet, becomes a demigod, sometimes comes here in this material world - martya, sometimes goes to naraka - hell, sometimes becomes demigod, sometimes becomes a demon, sometimes become master, sometimes become free. Lakhs and lakhs of universes, he is wandering, wandering, brahmāṇḍa bhramite kona bhāgyavān jīva, guru-kṛṣṇa-kṛpā pāya bhakti-latā-bīja. If someone is bhāgyavān, fortunate, after wandering in lakhs and lakhs of these brahmāṇḍas, universes, he gets that seed of bhakti creeper. By guru-kṛṣṇa-kṛpā. Bhāgyavān fortunate. Why it is said that he is fortunate? Baladeva Prabhu.

Devotee: Why he is fortunate?

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes.

Devotee: Because otherwise he continues wandering.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Continues wandering. Now his wandering will stop, isn’t it? The evolution in the, revolving in the cycle of birth and death will be stopped now when he gets this seed of bhakti-creeper. That is the fortune. That is the highest fortune. Here in material world, someone thinks himself fortunate when he gets some material gain, isn’t it? When someone meets here, what is the president of USA, George Bush, he says, ‘Oh, I’m very fortunate I met the president today’. ‘I met president today, I’m so fortunate. And president grants me this thing.’ Yes, this scholarship is granted to you, or this position is granted to you, so he thinks himself very fortunate, isn’t it?

But here it says, brahmāṇḍa bhramite kona bhāgyavān jīva. Uh, a fortunate jīva. What sort of fortune it is? By meeting the president of USA is fortune, or meeting guru is fortune? The real fortune? Meeting guru. Bona fide representative of Kṛṣṇa. Because up until now he was what? Servant of māyā, isn’t it? He was servant of māyā. Now he’ll become servant of Kṛṣṇa, isn’t it? That is the fortune. Up until now, he was servant of māyā, he was serving māyā, or getting severe, severe losses from māyā, and was suffering, suffering and suffering, isn’t it? But now when he meets bona fide representative of Kṛṣṇa, that is guru, now will become the servant of Kṛṣṇa.

His wandering will now stop, he will now render loving service unto the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa, will be established in his constitutional position as a servant of Kṛṣṇa. That is the highest fortune. He was suffering, now his suffering is finished. He was in miserable condition, now he will be in pleasurable condition. He was unhappy, now he will become happy. Isn’t it? He was unhappy, now he will become happy. It’s the one who makes a unhappy person happy is guru. He is guru. So many lives, lakhs and lakhs of lives, he was unhappy. Now he will become happy. By meeting whom, getting the seed of bhakti-creeper and become happy. Therefore it says, bhāgyavān jīva guru-kṛṣṇa-prasāde pāya bhakti-latā-bīja. tāte kṛṣṇa bhaje, kare gurura sevana, māyā-jāla chūṭe, pāya kṛṣṇera caraṇa. Then now he will serve the lotus feet of guru, then do Kṛṣṇa bhajana under the guidance of guru so he will be free from the clutches of māyā and approach the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa. This is the fortune, good fortune. bhāgya. This is good fortune. Hmm.

So, and this is done by the inspiration or prompting of Kṛṣṇa. That I said. When such a devotee or aspirant soul becomes up and down and become very eager. Becomes very eager. ‘How can I be freed from this bondage? How can I be freed from the clutches of māyā? I am now burning in this, saṁsāra-dāvānala. How this dāvānala, the blazing fire will be extinguished.' Then he cry in his heart. This is soul’s crying. The soul is crying. Soul is there in the heart. It is not outward crying, inner crying. Then Kṛṣṇa there in your heart, as Paramātmā knows it. ‘Now Mr. Gard is crying for me.’ Then He makes arrangement. nāyam ātmā pravacanena labhyo, na medhayā na bahunā śrutena, yam evaiṣa vṛṇute tena labhyas, tasyaiṣa ātmā vivṛṇute tanūṁ svām (Kaṭha Upaniṣad 1.2.23).

Kaṭha Upaniṣad says, nāyam ātmā pravacanena labhyo, na medhayā na bahunā śrutena, yam evaiṣa vṛṇute tena labhyas, tasyaiṣa ātmā vivṛṇute tanūṁ svām. When someone cries in his heart, ‘How can I know that Paramātmā or Supreme Lord? How can I know Him? How can I understand Him?’ Becomes very eager and cries in his heart. The Paramātmā Supersoul who is there in your heart becomes awakened. Becomes awakened. ‘Now Mr. God is crying for Me to understand Me, to approach Me.’ So He makes arrangement. It is Kṛṣṇa’s arrangement. This is Kṛṣṇa’s mercy, kṛpā. So He empowers, He empowers one of his very intimate and dear devotee and sends him here. He is guru, and that crying soul meets such guru. That is Kṛṣṇa’s kṛpā. In other words, we say that Paramātmā, who is in the heart of the living entity, assumes a body and appears. That is known as caitya-guru, caitya-guru who is in their heart. Unless you cry in your heart, that Paramātmā who is caitya-guru, he will never appear before you. He will never appear. It’s question of crying. He assumes a body and appears. Therefore, we say it is bona fide representative. Bona fide representative of the Lord is guru. He can save. Hmm.

When he comes, he showers his mercy and teaches you about this. Now, Śukadeva Gosvāmī gives the teaching of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and Parīkṣit Mahārāja heard it and got that supreme, what do you say? Perfection. That is śuddha-bhakti, pure devotion. Here my Guru Mahārāja says, ‘The conclusion is that to get the assistance and help of a bona fide spiritual master means to receive the direct help of Lord Himself.’ kṛṣṇa yadi kṛpā kare kona bhāgyavāne, guru-antaryāmi-rūpe śikhāya āpane [CC Madhya 22.47]. guru-rūpe kṛṣṇa kṛpā karena bhakta-gaṇe. How can you get the mercy of Kṛṣṇa? Yes. guru-rūpe kṛṣṇa kṛpā karena bhakta-gaṇe. Kṛṣṇa is merciful, is ocean of mercy, kṛpā-sindhu. But how He showers His mercy? In the form of guru. The form of guru. In the form of guru, Kṛṣṇa showers His mercy upon bhakta, upon the devotees. guru-rūpe kṛṣṇa kṛpā karena bhakta-gaṇe / kṛṣṇa yadi kṛpā kare kona bhāgyavāne, guru-antaryāmi-rūpe śikhāya āpane.

If Kṛṣṇa showers His mercy to a fortunate soul, He appears before him as guru and teaches him. Teaches him. So Śukadeva Gosvāmī appears and now teaches this Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. That is guru. Guru’s kṛpā, Kṛṣṇa kṛpā. Kṛṣṇa kṛpā is received through guru. You cannot receive Kṛṣṇa’s kṛpā directly. And who is guru? Who is guru, bona fide guru?

Devotee: Who is the bona fide guru? A bona fide guru is a devotee who has already taken shelter at his feet of Lord Kṛṣṇa. Guru is someone who has received his knowledge through the paramparā system.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Hmm. tasmād guruṁ prapadyeta, jijñāsuḥ śreya uttamam, śābde pare ca niṣṇātaṁ, brahmaṇy upaśamāśrayam. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, 11th canto says. You understand Rohiṇī Suta Prabhu? 11th canto, 11.3.21 verse. You may see it. tasmād guruṁ prapadyeta, jijñāsuḥ śreya uttamam, śābde pare ca niṣṇātaṁ, brahmaṇy upaśamāśrayam [SB 11.3.21]. That means one is very proficient in śabda-brahma, in Vedic truth. Śābde pare ca niṣṇātam. He knows Vedic conclusions in truth, is thoughtful. He is fixed. He is firmly fixed in param brahma. Firmly fixed in param brahma, Supreme Brahman. He has realized it. He is a realized soul. He is never disturbed at any circumstances, any material circumstances, never disturbed. He is sober. He is fixed. dhīras tatra na muhyati, as Bhagavad-gītā says. He is never disturbed at all. He is fixed in parabrahma. He knows this, supreme truth.

So, bewildered soul, conditioned soul, who cannot decide, who cannot think of what is to be done and what is not to be done. ‘What is my duty? What shall I do and what shall I not do?’ He is bewildered. He is disturbed. Such a person, such a bewildered soul should accept the lotus feet of such a guru with Śābde pare ca niṣṇātam, who is proficient in śabda-brahma, in parabrahma, in supreme truth, who knows the Vedic conclusions. Not only theoretically knows, he has realized it and he is fixed in it. He is never disturbed at any sorts of any sort of material disturbances. He is fixed, undisturbed. Such is guru. kṛpā-sindhuḥ su-sampūrṇaḥ sarva-sattvopakārakaḥ, niḥspṛhaḥ sarvathā siddhaḥ sarva-vidyā-viśāradaḥ, sarva-saṁśaya-saṁchettā analaso guru-rāgataḥ [Hari-bhakti-vilāsa]. Do you understand Balabhadra Prabhu.

Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī has quoted this verse in Hari-bhakti-vilāsa. This is about guru. Kṛpā-sindhu is ocean of mercy, that guru. Su-pūrṇa, he has gotten Kṛṣṇa, who is completely full. Kṛṣṇa is pūrṇa brahma, isn’t it? Pūrṇa brahma is completely full and he has gotten him. So who has gotten Kṛṣṇa param pūrṇa brahma is completed full, he never feels any deficit. Who has gotten pūrṇa brahma, how can he feel deficity? That is pūrṇa brahma. By getting whom, no one will feel any deficit. Otherwise, everybody feels deficit, isn’t it? So he has gotten it. That guru has gotten Kṛṣṇa, cent percent Kṛṣṇa. What it says? yasyāsti bhaktir bhagavaty akiñcanā sarvair guṇais tatra samāsate surāḥ. All the godly qualities, all the transcendental qualities are there in his person. sarva-mahā-guṇa-gaṇa vaiṣṇava-śarīre kṛṣṇa-bhakte kṛṣṇera guṇa sakali sañcāre [CC Madhya 22.75].

He is a pure devotee of Kṛṣṇa. He is endowed with all the divine attributes, all the divine qualities that is found in Kṛṣṇa. Those are found in Kṛṣṇa. That is there. He never feels any deficit because he has gotten that Supreme Brahma completely full, parabrahma. He is always engaged in doing good to the suffering souls. And he knows all Vedic truth. He is proficient on Vedic knowledge. He is very expert in establishing bhakti-siddhānta. Defeating the all bogus philosophies, siddhāntas, and establishing bhakti-siddhānta. And he can dispel all sorts of doubts of the disciple. By quoting śāstra authority, he is guru, he is guru. He is always engaged, every moment he is engaged in loving service of Kṛṣṇa, he is guru. That is the definition of guru. Sanātana Gosvāmī has quoted this verse in Hari-bhakti-vilāsa.

kibā vipra, kibā nyāsī, śūdra kene naya, yei kṛṣṇa-tattva-vettā, sei ‘guru’ haya [CC Madhya 8.128]. Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Mahaprabhu says who is guru. kibā vipra, kibā nyāsī, śūdra kene naya, yei kṛṣṇa-tattva-vettā, sei ‘guru’ haya. One who knows Kṛṣṇa tattva. He’s guru. He may be a vipra, may be a Brahmin, he may be a śūdra, or he may be a sannyāsī, he may be a gṛhastha, he may be anything. But if he knows Kṛṣṇa tattva, he is guru. He is guru. That is guru, unless one cannot become guru. Because he can instruct the confidential tattva. And he has received it from his ācārya. Ācāryavān puruṣo veda. śrī ācāryavān puruṣo veda. He has received this truth, this tattva, confidential tattva, Kṛṣṇa tattva. He is fixed in that tattva. He received that tattva from his ācārya, his guru. That ācārya has received from his ācārya. This is called śrota-parampararya. He comes in the bona fide disciplic succession.

So in Gītā, Kṛṣṇa said, tad viddhi praṇipātena paripraśnena sevayā, upadekṣyanti te jñānaṁ jñāninas tattva-darśinaḥ [BG 4.34]. So one who is very eager to know this tattva, supreme truth, knows this tattva supreme truth, he must approach such a tattva-darśī guru, who has seen tattva, who knows tattva. What is that tattva? Yes? Yes, advaya-jñāna-tattva, vraje vrajendra-nandana [CC Madhya 20.152]. Advaya-jñāna-tattva, vraje vrajendra-nandana. Brajendra Kumāra Kṛṣṇa is absolute truth. Who knows Him, who sees Him - he is tattva-darśī guru. tad-vijñānārthaṁ sa gurum evābhigacchet, samit-pāṇiḥ śrotriyaṁ brahma-niṣṭham. Upaniṣad says. Who is very eager to know this vijñāna, this science. This science, the spiritual science, paramātma-tattva, he must approach such a guru who knows this tattva, who has seen the tattva. Approach him.

praṇipātena paripraśnena sevayā. This is the process. Gītā says, First, you should completely surrender. Śiṣyas te 'haṃ śādhi māṃ tvāṃ prapannam. I become your śiṣya. I completely surrender unto you. Please accept me as your disciple and instruct me this tattva-jñāna. śādhi māṃ prapannam, completely surrender. This is question first. Then, paripraśna and sevayā. One must render service unto guru, satisfy him, please him, then humbly inquire about tattva. tattva-jijñāsā. Put questions on tattva, humbly. Then out of mercy, that tattva-darśī guru will impart tattva-jñāna. By his mercy, this jñāna will be received. This is the process. Then all your doubts will be dispelled, the ignorance, darkness of ajñānāndhakāra, will be dispelled and jñānaloka. What do you say jñānaloka? Torch of?

Devotee: Wisdom.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Wisdom, knowledge. The lamp of wisdom will be kindled. Enkindled. And the darkness of ignorance will be completely dispelled. Then you can have that vision. ajñāna-timirāndhasya jñānāñjana-śalākayā, cakṣur unmīlitaṁ yena tasmai śrī-gurave namaḥ. Isn’t it? What do you say in English? ajñāna-timirāndhasya jñānāñjana-śalākayā, cakṣur unmīlitaṁ yena tasmai śrī-gurave namaḥ. What do you say in English? Yes. I was born in darkness, so my spiritual master opened my eye of knowledge. Through which I can now see that absolute truth, Kṛṣṇa. That is he enkindles the lamp of knowledge and dispels the darkness of ignorance. Cakṣu-dāna dila yei, janme janme prabhu sei. He is my master life after life, one who has given me this eye, opened my eye. He is my master life after life. That is what standard’s needed. And such a guru appears, comes or appear by the prompting of Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Otherwise, nobody can have it. And that Śukadeva Gosvāmī says. This is our tattva. Thank you. Yes?

Devotee: You were saying that we must hear from the right source.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yeah.

Devotee: Earlier, at the beginning, you said we must hear from the right source.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: yes

Devotee: Someone has a question was here, you might have the Bible. You could say, ‘Well, this is the right source.’ Many people in the world, they cannot even think of any other source except the Bible. So what would you say to a person like that?

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes, what is the right source? That all Mahājanas, Ācāryas have accepted it, previous Ācāryas have accepted it. As we say, who is your father? So authority is the mother. Mother is the only authority to speak about the father. Nobody can say. What mother says, that is to be accepted, because she is the, she is the bona fide authority. Similarly, who is supreme father? It’s Kṛṣṇa. Who says? Veda-mātā. Veda-mātā. Veda is mother. Veda is mother. Veda says about it, so Veda-mātā is supreme authority, what Veda says.

That is Vedic truth. Vedic proof is the spotless proof, amar pramāṇa. We have so many proofs and Bhagavatam speaks of four types of proofs. Pratyakṣa, aitihya, anumāna. Pratyakṣa, aitihya, anumāna. Three types of proofs. And Vedic proof, veda-pramāṇa, śruti-pramāṇa, is the chief proof. But Veda says, and those who know Veda, those who know Veda, Veda comes from Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa. So this is our guru, disciplic succession that comes from Kṛṣṇa, where Veda comes from Kṛṣṇa. And those who are bona fide representatives, gurus, ācāryas, they come in this disciplic succession that begins from Kṛṣṇa. If someone say this, Bible or Christian authority, if they can prove that they come under this bona fide disciplic succession that comes from Kṛṣṇa, then we will accept it. Otherwise, we won’t accept it. This is bona fide true. Hmm? And this is our pramāṇas. Proof of śāstra and sādhu. Śāstra. guru.

Devotee: Yes. you were saying, one can get to spiritual master only by trying.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes.

Devotee: But unfortunately, as I see it in, in our movement, we’ve seen circumstances that have happened with fallen gurus and lack of knowledge, devotees not preaching about the need to take shelter of the spiritual master. So, devotees are becoming more and more complacent in that, even though they don’t have the proper connection. And so, how are they going to develop this crying mood if they’re..

Gour Govinda Swāmī: If they cannot feel they are burning, so they cannot cry? As I was saying that day, a big boil was there in buttock. So much pain it is giving you. But someone comes and says, ‘Oh, what is there? Oh, it is a great banyan tree. It gives me cool shade.’ Then how will be helped? He’s not crying. Yes. His soul is crying. As I say, when fire will catch your head, what will you do? Will you sit silently? You will cry, ‘Water! Water!’ And run here and there. ‘Where is water? Where is water? Where is water?’ Similarly, when you burn, when you’re burning in this saṁsāra-dāvānala, how can you sit silently? ‘Where is water? Where is water?’ You will, you will cry, you will cry, and shout, and run.

How this forest fire will be extinguished, saṁsāra-dāvānala will be extinguished? Where is that water? Such a cry. Then Kṛṣṇa, there in our heart, becomes awakened. Now he’s crying to approach me, get Me, so He makes arrangement. He will inspire one of his most intimate dear devotee, and empower him, and send him here. That is Kṛṣṇa’s arrangement. You will meet, as Śukadeva Gosvāmī meets, as Dhruva met Nārada Muni. So many instances.

Devotee: So some devotees who had gurus or left Kṛṣṇa consciousness, some of the arguments are that this devotee seems to be doing well. They’re being leaders in temples and they’re doing big preaching. How can we rule out, how can they, how can they feel a fire there if they’re feeling, they’re making amends and follow the normal routine?

Gour Govinda Swāmī: If they are not crying, how can have they gotten? Unless you cry, you cannot get. You cannot get the mercy of Kṛṣṇa.

Devotee: They think they have direct commitment to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Huh?

Devotee: They are thinking that, ‘I have a direct commitment to Śrīla Prabhupāda because my guru has left and I’ was initiated..

Gour Govinda Swāmī: It is only saying, ‘A great banyan tree is there, is giving me shade.’ It’s like that, a big boil. But he says, ‘Oh, great banyan tree is giving me shade. It’s all right with me.’ It’s like that.

Devotee: It sounds more like they, they seem to be doing well, spiritually. And..

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Who’s seeing? Have you eyes to see? Are apparently or outwardly one has put on very nice shoes, boot, wear boot, glazing, but the shoe pinches inside. He knows where the shoe pinches. Where the shoe pinches? You cannot know or outward anybody can know. He knows where the shoe pinches, but he’s not expressing as he say, ‘Oh, big, big banyan tree has raised his head here, gives me very cool shade.’ It’s like that. This, this won’t help you. baba. Yes.

Devotee: This means that the greatest māyā is that you don’t know your hairs on fire.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: Yes.

Devotee: You don’t know, so you don’t cry. But your hair is on fire, but you don’t know it.

Gour Govinda Swāmī: That I say. They are so callous, so callous. One who knows or feels, ‘Yes, really, I am in trouble. Really, I am in trouble. Really, I am in burning condition,’ he is fortunate. He must inquire. He must learn. He must search for it. And he says, ‘No, no, no. I am, I have gotten. I have everything. I’m happy’. He’s in fool’s paradise. Fool’s paradise. Yes. It’s fool’s paradise.

Mahāprabhu came, He taught you. He came as a bhakta. He taught you. How he taught? He cried. He cried. He’s always crying. Rurudyamānaḥ. Crying for Kṛṣṇa. He has taught that thing. hari hari bolite nayane ba’be nīra. Chanting, uttering name of Hari, he sheds tear. Isn’t it? Huh? Uttering the names of Hari, he’s shedding tear, Mahāprabhu. Isn’t it? gaurāṅga bolite habe pulaka śarīra. Why? Kena? hari hari bolite nayane ba’be nīra. Uttering names of Hari, he sheds tear. Isn’t it?

He teaches you how to cry for Kṛṣṇa. If you cry for Kṛṣṇa, you'll get Kṛṣṇa. Otherwise, you can't get. ‘Oh now I have gotten.’ You nonsense. What you have gotten? Counterfeit coin. You have gotten counterfeit coin, not real coin. Counterfeit. Such foolishness is thus going on. Thus, no can help you. Unless you cry, you can’t. Those who have cried, they have gotten. Dhruva cried, he got. Bilvamaṅgala cried, he got. And Mahāprabhu has come and teaching that to cry for it. And Kṛṣṇa says, gītvā ca mama nāmāni vicaren mama sannidhau, iti bravīmi te satyaṃ krīto’haṃ tasya cārjuna [Ādi-purāṇa 1.2.231]. In Adi Purāṇa it says, ‘Chanting My name, who cries before Me, he purchases Me. He purchases Me.’ That is the price you have to pay to purchase Kṛṣṇa. Cry from your heart. The soul is crying. Chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa means soul is crying. That, Mahāprabhu has taught. Thank you.
